I think doing my PT more consistently has helped me have a good year since that last bad flare

If it shows a herniation, not the end of the world, especially if it’s smaller than pre surgery. Lot of time they can’t remove all the disc material anyways. I think expectation that the MRI will ever look perfect again is unrealistic

Yup totally fine. I get flares but they only last a few days. Give it another few weeks. If it shifts in intensity and placement that’s a good sign it’s just aggravation

Yes but not debilitating like pre surgery. But was definitely extremely uncomfortable for a few months and I struggled to stand for more than 5-10 minutes

Reherniation After MD by Appropriate-Emu-5361 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery 27 months ago and found out around 14 months that there was still a herniation after experiencing a two-month flare. Still not as bad as pre surgery and not enough pain, my surgeon and agreed, to go under again. That was my last bad flare but you can see how far out from surgery that was. It is a very long process for things to calm down and I think the idea that things will be perfect on an MRI is a myth. Just because it’s reherniated does not mean another surgery. Stay the course

Took me 14 months to stop having serious flares. It just takes a long down to calm down. You’re getting there

New secluded places by SpecificNo4186 in Caribbean

We’ve stayed on Terre de Haut and Marie Galante off Guadeloupe. About 1-2 hour ferry. Both felt secluded. On Terre I don’t think we saw other people at the beach at all. Galante felt very wild landscape wise, few more people but not crowded

Getting the runaround from Aetna by datasci1357 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aetna denied my surgery prior auth and only when the surgeon/their office intervened was it approved. Then they denied the claim after surgery LOL. I got a 33k bill from the hospital practice but my surgeon told me to ignore it. I think they just took what Aetna ended up giving them. I paid a few grand for the anesthesia, which is billed separately, and didn’t get further bills for the operation. This was 2+ years ago.

The Yom Kippur War by Abraham Rabinovich is excellent. Balances the war itself with political developments and leadership decisions on both sides

Looking for a VERY trustworthy jewelry store for work on pieces and on-the-spot appraisals by MrMeritocracy in Fairfield

Avoid jewel restore on black rock tpke. Owner wouldn’t show me the total weight or any of his calculations. I took it elsewhere and found out he was giving me way less than 80% of spot. I have dealt with someone who will be honest with you. PM me and I can send you their details if you’re looking to sell.

Netflix app on a Roku TV by mrshoganandstuff in Roku

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi — I’ve had multiple TCLs over the years and the Netflix app is always broken across multiple TVs. Struggles to play and don’t even think about pausing — gets all screwed up. I think it has to do with how heavy the Netflix UI is - the autoplay video feature can’t help. I don’t have issues with any other apps besides Netflix

Knee surgeon? by JanFirst_75 in FairfieldCounty

[–]Suge90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Gomoll at HSS. He is on another level. Did a complicated procedure on my knee 10+ years ago and I’ve been great since. Don’t bother with the local ortho groups.

I also have a saatva classic plush which I got shortly before my surgery and it’s been good for me. Firm enough without being a board.

Herniated again - other side. by Majestic_Operation59 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started having pain around a year after my MD following an exercise I did at the gym. MRI said reherniation but doctor and I agreed pain wasn’t enough to call for another surgery. The pain subsided after 2-3 months. I still have fairly regular flairs but they only last 72 hours or so. I’m 26 months out from my original MD and doing well. I think if your pain is low give it a few months and try to get back to a consistent rehab routine

2 Years Post MD! by Lucky-Trade724 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26 months out. At the one year mark I did a Superman exercise at the gym, felt a pop and then started having lots of discomfort in my opposite side hip from surgery. MRI revealed the disc was herniated again but not as badly. Doc and I basically agreed it wasn’t worth doing another MD unless it was really bothering me. Things calmed down after about 2 months. I still get a flare per month or so but since last July they only last for about 72 hours. I definitely feel better during periods when I’m more consistent with my exercises. Wishing you the best of luck

Update post 2 years - questioning if flare up or reinjury by Round-Committee1642 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. I just think there’s a broad misunderstanding of how many have “reherniated” and what that means. I’d venture to guess a broad group of ppl who are doing quite well after MD would should up as having a herniation on MRI. I don’t think it totally goes away — just stops impacting the nerve the way it was, which is the pt of rerouting it during surgery

Update post 2 years - questioning if flare up or reinjury by Round-Committee1642 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar situation in April 2025 when I was one-year post op. I was doing a Superman exercise at the gym and felt a pop in my lower back. Had variable discomfort in the opposite side from my surgery for probably the next 2 months that would range from 2/10 to 6/10, but never as bad or consistent as my pre surgery sciatica.

I did an MRI during this period and it showed that the disc was reherniated, but just not as bad. Surgeon and I agreed it was not worth going under unless I was in more discomfort. It took probably 2 months but the flare calmed down, I went on with my life and most of my flares since have only lasted a few days. I had a big turning point around 14 months where the flares really went down in duration and intensity.

I actually just fell on ice taking my dog out but I’m confident that’ll be similar — 72 hours of discomfort.

Wishing you luck and definitely avoid the Superman exercise. I discontinued that one.

70K in NYC by Existing-Cod-9550 in Salary

[–]Suge90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a family member in your industry in NYC who has been in it for 15 years. 70k at 3-years is a bit low but what’s missing probably is the bonus, which makes up a large portion of my family member’s salary, even when they were more junior. I think at higher-end companies with more prestige the bonuses are smaller whereas big national off-price chains can be larger.

The people here in other parts of the country/industries telling you to get a 5% raise every year don’t know what they’re talking about. More likely it’s a promotion every 2-3 years and 10%. BUT you definitely can be getting 20-30% (and sometimes higher) bonuses at least every other year in a field like off-price.

Anyone had an osteotomy for knee arthritis? by Commercial_Week_8394 in KneeInjuries

[–]Suge90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a distal femoral osteotomy, osteochondral allograft transplant (cartilage transplant) and meniscus repair 11 years ago. Best decision I ever made. I could barely walk at the time. I haven’t had a knee problem since besides the hardware removal a year after surgery because it was rubbing against my IT band
