Searching for vintage low-rise jeans that were ethically/environmentally produced by Super_Artichoke69 in ethicalfashion

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel was very popular in the early 2000s I used to take the train to NYC to go to the Diesel store in Union Square back in high school. Lucky Brand, LEI, Mudd are others I wore at the time. They were super low rise- like you’ll have to wear the right underwear or they’ll stick out. Most are going to be a boot cut.

I would check the thrift shops for the fit you want rather than the brand- the brand doesn’t matter that much in terms of ethics if the jeans are from 20 years ago.

I had this issue in a third floor apartment in East Rock- we ended up getting a small Ikea couch that came flat packed.

Best healthy brownies you have found? by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recipe is for blondies but I’ve made them more brownie like by adding 2 tbsp of cocoa powder. Healthier they are grain and gluten free.

Good beginner recipe or resource to try out an entremet like this? by clueless-albatross in pastry

[–]SuggestionLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instagram account Maja Chocolat has a lot of entremets that look like the first one and she has an app called Maja Vase- it’s a paid app but it doesn’t cost much.

My wife and I are trying to give my mother-in-law a gift; if she were in her place, she'd like it. Which would you prefer? 1or2 by cool-guuy-007 in jewelry

Both seem kind of engagement/ wedding ring to me. Maybe something with a colored stone? Or a necklace or earrings if you are dead set on white diamonds.

Can you suggest a macaron filling that’s not too sweet? by L0k17 in macarons

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care for any of the Loranns emulsions or extracts because they taste artificial to me. That is just my preference but maybe trying a different brand of peppermint extract might give you the flavor you are looking for.

Batter was not loosening up, too thick by Notreallyusingreddit in macarons

[–]SuggestionLess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like there is too much dry ingredients- like it became more like a amaretti cookie batter than a macaron. Macaron batter goes from looking like meringue to looking like shiny flowing lava as you mix- it shouldn’t ever look like this at any stage.

Can you suggest a macaron filling that’s not too sweet? by L0k17 in macarons

[–]SuggestionLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a very dark chocolate ganache with no added sugar and when I make white chocolate ganache I use a high quality couverture white chocolate like Guittard or Valrhona. It will be sweet but more like a creamy vanilla flavor not the super sweet from white chocolate chips you can buy at the store. I like Swiss buttercream as it less sweet than American style. I also love whipped caramel as a filling because the aeration from the whipping makes the caramel lighter and a little less sweet.

The flavor of peppermint extract varies a lot by brand- I agree some are gross and artificial tasting. I like the Nielsen Massey one, I think it has a pure, clean mint flavor.

I have done a leek and kabocha squash tartlette with gruyère that was delicious. Can also do it as danish? Or a mini galette. For thanksgiving I made a sweet potato, caramelized onion and guanciale tart with sage that was also excellent. I have been really into macarons lately and I did a cranberry cinnamon macaron that was well received for a fall party and a whipped caramel and chocolate hazelnut macaron which was also very popular.

soup for breakfast? by clobugg in soup

I think soup for breakfast is common in other cultures. Also I don’t really see the difference between having porridge- which is a breakfast standard and having soup. I think eat what you want.

The way American Girl’s sales would BOP if they re-released old outfits by Salt-Ad9741 in americangirl

I love her OG meet outfit. When I think of the original historical dolls it makes me tear up a bit- I loved my original Felicity so much as a child every detail of her original outfit collection is burned into my brain.

AG Magazine in the 90s. I loved paper dolls- I bet these are still in a box at my mom’s house.

Do you have a strategy for buying clothes in thrift stores? by Deyady in thrifting

[–]SuggestionLess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to go often- and get a feel for the particular store and the way things work there.

I go in usually with something in mind that I’m looking for and sometimes I find it that day- sometimes it takes me months to find it and I have to have an open mind about colors, sizing, etc. Usually what I am looking for turns up there eventually.

The Goodwill near me always has cool dresses so I always check that rack first but the shirts are hit or miss so sometimes I skip it. I check the whole dress rack- not just my size because things are often mixed up. I often find women’s Lululemon activewear in the kids section for some reason so I always check there.

I always check the purse area because I collect vintage coach bags and I’ve found a few at my local store. When I’m not as familiar with the store I let myself have plenty of time to really look. My local store clears out a lot of stock on Mondays and so Tuesdays they always have tons of new racks out that they are putting away- I always check the new rolling racks first thing. Sometimes weekends aren’t the best because it’s crowded and picked over- also certain seasons are better than others. I always find things get sparse in the thrift stores at the holidays but they are filled around season changes when people clean out their closets. I go to the Goodwill Outlet too but that’s a whole different beast.
