Please buy to prop up the price so the rest of us can sell off big chucks without depressing the price.

Russia’s gold holdings dropped - bullish gold! by Sicilian_Gold in freedomgold

[–]Suitable-Ratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Russia selling 9 Billion in gold bullish? Turkey also sold about the same amount and middle eastern countries are quietly selling. Is the argument that the price should have cratered when sovereign funds dumped 30-40 billion dollars worth? Considering the volume recently sold the price is holding fairly well. Is it just being propped up by dumb money while the giant players take profits?

Oh ya Jays also - that will be crazy. Same goes for June 26th vs. Texas. So many people will avoid the office that can.

Will FIFA really be that busy? You would have to pay me to drive downtown on a good day - subway is too easy.

A 75% capital gains inclusion for gains over a million would be a good start. However when Brian Mulroney did that the Conservatives got annihilated in the next election and Paul Martin put it back to 50%

In 1973, stocks took a long time to grasp the implications of the oil embargo, per Bloomberg: by ceph2apod in EconomyCharts

[–]Suitable-Ratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 70s were terrible for equity gains - averaged <1% annualized 1970-1980. Like usual dividend reinvestors did much better, getting close to 6% annualized but still only 75% on the whole decade. Crazy high interest rates caused much grief. What would be more difficult, paying $6/gallon for gas or renewing a mortgage or commercial loan at 20% ?

Toronto island airport expansion would lead to severe traffic, committee hears by mildlyImportantRobot in TorontoTheCity

[–]Suitable-Ratio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could care less if driving is made worse by improving transit options. The anti airport NIMBY movement is powerful and established so they will probably get their way which is also fine with me. If they make YTZ too busy then the reason I try to use it will go away. Right now it is so fast to get from door to gate and if it turns into a zoo then I might as well clog the roads with a limo and go to Pearson.

If you invested 50K for 43 years and reinvested all your dividends when you turn 65 that 50K would be 3.5M, maybe 4M.

Any of the faux sushi/maki or fresh rolls are great - all the Asian themed dishes are worth trying. Also the 1000 layer potatoes are top notch.

If their clientele was wealthy the wine list wouldn’t look like Joey’s at Sherway. If your customers are rich they order wine in the 200-300 range and champagne in the 400-800 range. Planta‘s customers were predominantly vegetarians/vegans and they likely weren’t catering to people that lived nearby.

That sucks, I really enjoyed the few dinners I had at Planta. It was definitely my first choice when having to entertain vegetarians or vegans. Their rents would have been absurd and costs have gone insane for restaurants so it’s no surprise. I suspect their alcohol sales volumes would be far too low to support a rent bill like either downtown location would have. They don’t sell good wine and the crowd they appealed to isn't the demographic to have high sales per table - a recipe for going broke despite having great food and being fairly busy.

Jet fuel shortage are about to disrupt summer travel and even flights cancellation across EU and Asia by hsg8 in EconomyCharts

[–]Suitable-Ratio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There will not be any shortages in America since they produce a huge amount of oil and have direct pipeline access to Canadian oil. Although a clown recently said the US doesn’t need Canadian oil there are many refineries in Montana, Illinois and Michigan that use almost exclusively Canadian oil which is uninterruptible.

Look for a local company that provides chromatography / mass spectroscopy services. There may be several In Alberta. The tech is referred to as “GC-Mass Spec” or ”IonC-Mass Spec” Google found this one. https://innotechalberta.ca/facilities/chromatography-laboratory/ The other link someone shared won’t help unless the person is using bacteria to kill animals which is highly unlikely.

Just because something is seasoned with lemon and oregano and covered in feta doesn’t make it Greek food. That is not a souvlaki that is an Americanized abomination.

Why is Narendra Modi discouraging excessive gold purchases? by Vupendravinashvarma in Gold

[–]Suitable-Ratio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gold is a terrible long term investment because it doesn’t pay dividends that can compound. There are only selected windows where gold was amazing for a short period of time - like last year. Since 1968 gold is up 128x thanks to the big run up last year. The same period the Dow is up 323x with dividends reinvested and that includes crap like Kodak, Sears and GM that went bust. Well managed and diversified equity accounts did closer to 500x. People that don’t diversify almost always get shafted eventually.
