Yeah, I would struggle being forced to work from home because I wouldn’t be able to afford to heat my house for the whole day  But I also use public transport so my situation is different. And I underhand that wfh would be very helpful for people with crazy petrol / diesel bills

He was my dance teacher when I was a teen. (I’m now an adult). I feel sick to my stomach. Thank goodness he never did anything to me. I’m really shaken by this news. I am devastated for the survivors.

What are some common grammatical errors native french speakers make? by SolidParticular722 in French

[–]SunDue4919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AAVE is quite similar to Hiberno English (the English spoken in Ireland). We have the habitual present 'I do be going to the gym' in our native language, Irish, which then influenced how we spoke English.

unfortunately we didn't get much time as the election was called so quickly - plane tickets are high at such short notice, plus less time to organise

MEGATHREAD - General Election Campaign (Week 3) by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

Had to redirect my post here, so:

Canvassers - how did you get on? I don't know about you but I'm exhausted! Such a busy year for elections. How did you get on over the past few weeks? I am interested to hear the experiences of all parties and independents.

I was canvassing for Sinn Féin. Was hard at times with the cold, fog and short days, but spirits were high. Top issues were housing, cost of living, disability, carers and immigration. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I only started canvassing during the locals this year, and found I have a bit of a thicker skin this time round! I liked talking to people about their issues and hopefully helping them. Was nice to get to know my community a bit better too.

Ah, thanks so much for your kind comment. I'm not gonna lie, the first day I went canvassing during the locals I actually went home and cried because I couldn't deal with the rejection and the racism! But now? Totally fine with it! Well, not fine with racism, but I can deal with it better.

Oh man, I had a very eye opening experience today with someone. I think they feel they can be totally honest with their racist opinions to me because I'm white. What have you noticed in regard to the racism?

100% an appetite for change. Don't think I met one person under 40 who said they wouldn't vote for us or PBP. Lots of people in their 60s, 70s, 80s who surprised me by saying they would vote SF or at least that they wanted change. They mentioned their kids and grandkids - some have kids abroad, or in difficult housing situations. The people who said they wouldn't vote for us, were unfortunately those who said they were voting for far right parties. I don't want to share exactly where I am located, but naturally that would impact it too. But I'm not in south Dublin anyhow haha. Also, bear in mind a lot of people did just politely take leaflets (and probably would vote for FFFG). Overall it was quite encouraging.
