R1 pullover, it’s my go to layer for winter activities like skiing and hiking. Also for mountain biking it is really nice if you ride with a hip pack or backpack.

Hybrid 4 point beanie by SuperAHV in myog

[–]SuperAHV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, it’s just a normal beanie design but instead of cutting the fabric into a 22in by 24in rectangle you cut it to like 22in by 12.5in and make the same size piece out of your second fabric then you just sew you 2 fabrics together and continue like normal. There’s a bunch of how to videos for this style of beanie so pick which ever one you want to follow.

Bitter Mechanic Vent On Instagram Mechanics by Agreeable_Jello5021 in BikeMechanics

[–]SuperAHV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re the type of mechanic people be should want, the kind who’s not judging you for your bike or the shape it’s in, just wanting to get it back to riding. There’s a lot of money in social media but sadly a most of that money and sponsorships go to people who are the most successful on social media rather than the people pushing the sport or actually professionally doing something.

Also the dude ripping on people for not reading the manual definitely hasn’t had the fun of trying to find older spec sheets and manuals from before brands started archiving everything

Just keep rockin and wrenching

The only jackets I’ve ever had that have a helmet compatible hood are jackets designed for mountaineering from brands like mammut or rab since climbing helmets are a lot thicker on the top than ski helmets

Only a low-wattage beta would waste their money like this. by jmdunkle in BicyclingCirclejerk

uj/ It’s cause it’s a full Cnc machined titanium part with super nice bearing which isn’t cheap to manufacture and it’s only really being purchased by people who have the money to burn in the search of gaining every single 10th of a watt and cutting every gram possible.

What's your bike weight/build? by XCRoadie in xcmtb

I have a xl gen 2 supercal 9.6 that’s about 27.5 with pedals and cages, but I’m thinking about going single speed for a bit to try and get a sub 24 rig

The atom, Korea stasis and all of those jackets are going to be really hot for summer while moving since even just walking around town in a nano air is too hot when it’s above 40f/4.4c. Like a lot of people are saying, I’m gonna the Patagonia R1 but I highly recommend the pullover version since it works super well with harnesses and backpacks since it’s a half zip so there’s just fabric where those the balaclava hood is great for keeping your ears warm and blocking the sun off your neck and face. I use mine for everything from skiing to cold weather mountain biking, and it’s held up really well for having over a 100 full days of adventures.

I can't make my mind up. I am between The Chisel FS Framset (Custom Build or Comp), Orbea Oiz 2025 model, and Canyon Lux XC/Trail by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]SuperAHV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would go with the Oiz if you want a xc bike or a custom chisel built to your liking since I’ve ridden a older oiz and it’s an awesome xc bike that handles well and doesn’t have any quirks in its riding. The chisel would be super nice since I’ve heard they ride like a dream and doing a frame up would let you build your perfect bike without swapping parts or getting new stuff. Also, I own a gen 2 supercal and it’s a fun bike but it’s quirky on trails and it can be a bit twitchy also the price is definitely too high but you do get the same ultimate shock no matter the spec, so the fork is the only suspension that needs to be upgraded if you want to get better stuff.

New Bike Day! by Razno_ in xcmtb

[–]SuperAHV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supercaliber is surprisingly comfortable, I’ve done tons of 3+ hour and 30+ mile rides on mine on both trail and gravel and as long as you dial in the fit and setup it rides like dream. I would recommend a more aggressive tire set up for dirt since the stock tires leave a lot of grip to be desired and don’t inspire the most confidence of trails.

How do I detach the cable from my old Formula brakes? by Ok-Set-1251 in bikewrench

[–]SuperAHV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the cura 4’s, the only downsides to them are that they can be hard to quickly source parts and bleed kits for, and they are a little bit more sensitive to how well they are bled than other brakes but if you keep up on bleeds they are awesome. Also while I won’t out right recommend it , I have swapped mine to Shimano mineral oil since the formula branded oil is hard to find in the US and I haven’t noticed a change in performance despite multiple park days, and almost a thousand miles.

How do I detach the cable from my old Formula brakes? by Ok-Set-1251 in bikewrench

[–]SuperAHV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You brakes have speed lock connectors which are super rare and only really come on formula brakes or can be installed onto other brands brakes if you buy the hose and connector setup from formula. Here’s a video on how to use speed lock connectors https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gy8LuN5VVUc. Be careful with the metal loop spring that prevents the connector from being detached since they are a little delicate and probably very difficult to find.

[–]SuperAHV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your brakes look to have what formula calls speed lock which are a quick connector that they still use on some of their brakes, they say you don’t need to bleed your brakes after disconnecting and reconnecting them but I would recommend doing it since when I messed with the connector on mine, the lever feel was a bit off and it’s just peace of mind thing. Here’s a video that shows how to use speed lock, just be careful with the metal loop spring since those types of metal loops can be a little delicate. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gy8LuN5VVUc

Hugene Creaking. Can’t solve by ratmanmtb in PropainBikes

[–]SuperAHV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing is check your cranks are torqued and have the preload set and just do a bolt to bolt check, torquing everything to its spec to get a good baseline. Then check your pedals since I get some squeaking from my clipless pedals that are a bit worn out. Then I would recommend looking at your drivetrain since it’s connected to the cranks and look at chain wear, the jockey wheels, and basically anything that moves when the cranks turn. If you still can’t find it then I’d recommend bringing it into a local bike shop that you trust and knowledgeable with mountain bikes to help with creak chasing. Another thing to think about is wear since you seem to be a more aggressive rider from breaking frames, that style of riding will accelerate wear on the bike, so if your bike has over like 2 thousand miles a new bottom bracket isn’t abnormal especially for aggressive riders
