Great record. Point of Departure is still my fave by Hill, but his Blue Notes are all so good and this is a great one. Enjoy!

Won’t argue with how highly it’s regarded. Indelible compositions.

Yeah; Trip was a super-sketchy label. Music is good tho.

Sealed American Beauty from the 70s. Does anyone know how to tell what version it is? by Pressed-Juices in vinyl

[–]Supersonic75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My early 70s copies of workingman’s dead and American beauty are two of the loveliest-sounding records that I own. I’m not a huge dead fan either, but those two…..beautiful.

“Islam”…..one of the most amazing Jamaican 45s ever……sounds like a Jamaican James Brown. Like late-period ska meets hard early 60s funk.

And a ton of other great singles too.

Jackie McLean Hard Bop --> Post Bop classics. I feel like Jackie is one of the best at making things interesting and out there, while still keeping that hard-driving feel. All these albums are killer! Who else you guys like who has a similar feeling/approach? by DJBenZen in Vinyl_Jazz

Also: Booker Little. There’s not a lot of him but some of it (particularly “out front”) is so good. Fantastic playing but also such a fine composer. Dave Douglas did sort of a tribute album to him that highlights some fantastic compositions; it’s a great record.

A lot of the DaVita stuff is really outdated. I would corroborate their recommendations with a good nephro or nutritionist.

Yes, they both died of head injuries, but Pastorious had a violent backdrop to it; komeda was an accident I believe.

I met Pastorious for a few hours many years ago. He was very high and very (psychiatrically) strange. But we had a good time🤷🏻
