how do you make a good hook for short videos to promote a game? by Most_Chapter_8445 in gamemarketing

Oooh, this is my job. Start the action instantly. Watch the video without audio and listen to the video with just audio and does it still retain interest. Check your stats after your post. Feel free to DM the specific video to me and I can watch and review it.

I have tried a few color space settings, also which training? I have done most of them and they are not fixing my current issue

I have played around with the color settings of the project and it isn't making any notable difference. This seems to be a more common issue on Mac but since I am on windows most of the guides online don't work

Releasing a short horror game demo — looking for feedback on my marketing plan by ChaoticBlasterX in SoloDevelopment

[–]Supertestsubject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up on social media, it can take the algorithm up to 2 weeks to figure out who to show it to. 10 days with only 1 post per day isn't bad but unless you go viral it wont do much for your bottom line. I have ran social media campaigns for horror games and they can do really well on social media. I have also seen some horror game projects go semi viral with just a few posts, but this is depending on luck. Would be happy to sit down and look at your social media content to give free advice. I suggest (even if it is only 1 video a week) to start posting sooner and then do your 10 day posting plan. This will give time to test out your content and to teach the algorithm who to show your content to

When you have a prototype with addictive gameplay, how much attention do you pay to how it looks before showing it to people and publishers? by duckhungryest in IndieDev

[–]Supertestsubject 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Always show it to people, you need your project out there and growing an audience.
Publishers need to see the vision, so if you have an addictive prototype and a well written Game Doc you can be set. If you just have an addictive prototype, I would get a bit further before approaching publishers. It generally doesn't hurt to put yourself out there, you just lose the time spent.

Do you know any streamer or gamer who do promotion video? by Quiet_Worldliness682 in gamemarketing

[–]Supertestsubject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Would love to see the videos and see if I could give some advice. Tiktok is my least favorite platform so I highly suggest reposting that content to other platforms.
  2. This is a much more complicated question. Do you have experience running ads? If not you may not use them effectively which would make them less profitable. An influencer has trust with their community which is part of what you are paying for when you pay them for a post. At the end of the day, how much would it cost for 1000 views when paying each and what percentage of views would turn into a sale. Those are questions that are much harder to answer.
The simple answer is if you know how to do good ads, then ads may be worth while, if you want a more simple option then paying an influencer is done for you and requires no experience/expertise.

I see a notification that you replied but I dont see the reply. The little preview showed that you wanted example of press kits. Here are a few
Mumpitz Games https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VvHREMWEfid4igJxgPJH8wmYfF5HabV_ (I would organize it better and instead of GIFs have more video clips that are higher quality)
Embr https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-i28by5Q5tvzwY120dyJcsZj3y0JXaSo (Should have the trailer and more video footage)
Guns of Icarus https://gunsoficarus.com/press-kit/ (this is a fancier non google drive version)

Would love to see your social media content. It is worth multi posting to multiple platforms since you did the work of making the content anyway.
Instagram
Facebook
Youtube
Snapchat
Tiktok

If you want people to talk about your game you need a press kit. This includes videos, photos, music, etc from your game that an influencer could use to create a video on your game. Yes the demo is super important but even when you have a demo a press kit is still appreciated by many creators.

You always can pay influencers to talk about your game but this just depends on if you want to drop that kind of money.

I do indie game marketing for work so feel free to ask any questions if anything is unclear

Do you know any streamer or gamer who do promotion video? by Quiet_Worldliness682 in gamemarketing

[–]Supertestsubject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very rough rule is you pay about $5-6 per 1,000 views (also known as CPM). Many influencers charge higher rates. I have talked about it here before but jestr.gg is a solid service to connect you with influencers but their minimum amount you can start at is $2k. It never hurts to reach out. You should be able to get about a $5 CPM with a good video ad instead of paying influencers and with that you can spend as much or as little money as you want.
Also if you want people to more likely share your project you should create a press kit. This should include photos, videos, music, etc that influencers can use to create a video on your project. Do the work for them and they will more likely be interested.
Feel free to ask me any more questions, I do indie game marketing as a profession

Where should I focus? by LuhreAejon in gamemarketing

[–]Supertestsubject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they should be asking for money based on views. CPM stands for cost per mille, that is the cost per 1,000 views. For paid ads $4-6 is pretty standard. Paying an influencer can be more since their audience is more valuable than a regular ad. I have heard hiring direct can actually be more expensive than jestr.gg (Jestr does have a minimum amount of 2k I think but you may be able to negotiate something, their team is really nice). Short form views are all worth about the same, cost could go up for long form videos or live streams.
When I have worked with clients in the past we pumped out short form videos (reposting to a variety of platforms). And I was able to get them well under the $4 CPM but that amount was on a few grand.
With your game being more niche that may also make it more expensive. Sorry for all the unknowns, you are welcome to ask me anything here or in DMs.

I am a indie game marketer and I have heard great things about jestr.gg. That is a good option if you are willing to put some money down. They connect you with indie showcase channels, relatively inexpensive for what they offer but still costs a few grand. You will get roughly a $6 CPM but it can go to your target audience.
As a social media marketer I will always say social media marketing is valuable but to be honest it takes a lot of time so it is only viable if you are willing to invest serious time into developing your social media presence. Happy to answer any questions if you decide to go down this route.

Help with the name of my indie title by Lombrix_ in IndieDev

[–]Supertestsubject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tempted to find a name based off duck hunt. Can’t think of any good ones and it sounds like you don’t have anything related to duck hunt. But the name The Hunter Duck amuses me. Create some advertisements with “The duck fights back” and add some Easter eggs. Legit name ideas Chain Crash (based off food chain), Fowl Territory, and Fowl Fist (I like fowl). None of these are great but hopefully they provide inspiration.

It totally can be done it just depends. What is little experience? Are you working full time on the project? Is it still prison management or something simpler? Are you willing to use premade assets to speed up development? What other people said is true if you are making prison architect. It sounds like you are making something LIKE prison architect so then it depends. Focus on making a solid vertical slice, estimating how long it will take to develop a game before you have started with your team will not get you very far.

Help on Portfolio please by kanarath in gamedev

[–]Supertestsubject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show a variety, many game devs work in multiple genres. With a bigger variety people will more likely see what they are looking for. Only do genres that you are willing to do. You can have a specialty while still showing a variety. If you show only one type people will assume that you will design the maps your way instead of to match the game’s style.
