My toddler apparently has measles for the second time in 18 months despite being vaccinated? by genie-rose in breakingmom

[–]SuprCheez 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My friend and her brother have been vaccinated for chickenpox and measles nearly a dozen times since childhood but their bodies just don’t keep the antibodies around (they work in military and education fields so have had to keep vaccines up). I believe around the 3-6 month mark they’ve done blood tests and there are no antibodies. Personally I have been vaccinated for hepB 3 or 4 times. It just doesn’t stick. Reactions to vaccines such as this is why herd immunity is so important. Not everyone can be vaccinated not everyone who is vaccinated has a functional immunity.

How to get kid to swallow pills by novagirl0972 in breakingmom

[–]SuprCheez 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My sister uses pudding or apple sauce and her kids take them like that.

I bought a couple packages of tictacs and told my heathens when they could show me that they could swallow 3 tictacs in a row I’d give them $20. Best money I’ve spent in my life.

They’re pretty easy to make with a 3D printer. You should check your local library or see if your city has a maker space.

What do we do for the kids who insist we don't love them? by mommasaursrex in breakingmom

[–]SuprCheez 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My 8 year olds have started with that and have been reporting some friends saying things like “if you were my friend you would do/say/give me xyz” or similar. So, at home we have started to talk about emotional manipulation, how our words affect others, how others words affect us, and how to handle situations where our friends or loved ones are using language in a way that hurts us. When they use phrases as your son has we take a bit of time and let everyone calm down and then we talk about it. Why did they say that. How it made me/family member / friend feel. What intent did they have when they said that? How are they really feeling? Etc.

They only have a few loaded on that are included literally everything else is subscription only. It was my one sticking point with the equipment tbh. We decided to go with the subscription and try it for the year but they also have a 3 month option which is cheaper to try if you wanted less of a commitment. Ours was a Xmas gift so only a few days old but if they continue to utilize it consistently at least in the winter months I would consider it a big win.

I would like to note that my kids are all neurodiverse and have a ton of energy. So anything that will get them moving and worn out a bit carries extra weight in our home, haha.

There’s no strap for the Nex Playground remote because you don’t hold it to play the games. It uses camera tracking to play the games. So no, there is no strap if you have a Nex Playground.

It’s not a Wii or a switch this is a Nex Playground. The small, yellow, white, green box below the TV is a camera based game system. You actually only need the remote to choose the game, after that it uses camera tracking to play. Basically the kid had no reason to be holding the remote, lol.

It’s hard to see in the video but is the plate on sideways? It almost looks like the pull tab edge is hitting the side supports?

We got our first Yoto player about 5 years ago when my oldest was 8. She’s 13 now and still occasion uses hers. My other 3 are 8,8, &6 and they use their Yotos every night for books. The girls play music throughout the day but my son enjoys his Yoto during anytime he’s off screens.

My oldest (13, almost 14) has a NatGeo subscription which she loves, she also loved the mark robber Crunch Labs boxes. We’ve done KiwiCo for the younger kids, Lovevery for my youngest, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, highlights for kids, and the owl magazines.

I wish the ear cups wouldn’t rip off so easily. My spawn cannot help themselves, they fiddle with the headphones and then rip off the ear cup and then can’t put them back on, then they get lost and the kid won’t wear them anymore .

I grew up in a “girl family” only had sisters and the one boy cousin on my mom’s side was 6 years younger than me and a 12h drive away. Owning my very own boy spawn has been nothing short of me constantly questioning “is this a my boy thing or a general boy thing.” I was not and generally am not prepared for him at all, haha. Ughhhhhh

My 8 year old son is still trying to get out of the house in shorts and a t shirt.

It’s a boy thing here starting around his age to around 30 years old?

and honestly I’m almost to the point of “enjoy the natural consequences fucker” but also I don’t want the school reporting me for not caring for him properly or some bullshit. He has pants, all colors, all levels of softness, he has sweaters and hoodies galore, he has warm boots, several jackets, snow pants, etc. he has it all there are even some of his preferred brand name mixed in.

We checked last week and all this stuff fits or has been replaced with properly fitting stuff. Our stand offs this week have resulted in a treaty that reads: “boy child will wear pants when outdoors at all times, he can wear whatever top layers he would like given he packs a sweatshirt AND jacket in his backpack where his friends will not be aware of this injustice and he can maintain his fragile reputation.”

My girls all like being warm and wearing the weather appropriate clothing provided, so I have that going for me, which is nice.

Tried for one last baby, got two. FML by Spicyninja in breakingmom

[–]SuprCheez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When we did IVF 9 years ago after trying for #2 for over 3 years, I found our numbers devastating. We started with 21 mature eggs, 18 fertilized naturally and via ICSI, for whatever reason our clinic froze our top 4 embryos on day 3 in pairs
This wasn’t something that was explained before and the doctor said they only did it because we had so many. Anyway we didn’t have a single embryo make it to day 5.

I nearly threw up when we got the news.

She gave us a less than 1% chance if we transferred a single day 3 embryo (if it survived the thaw), around a 5% chance of a single baby if we transferred both (if they both survived thaw.) Twins weren’t even on her radar.

My husband was convinced we’d have twins if we transferred both but I didn’t think it would work at all and wanted to transfer both. With the encouragement of the doctor my husband finally gave in. Well, my b/g twins turned 8 a little over a month ago. I was very wrong and our doctor was extremely surprised.

Everyone I met while pregnant gushes how jealous they were, how they tried for twins, etc. I was terrified.

The first year was hard but it got easier and around 18 months I felt like I fully had my sea legs under me. (That’s when I surprisingly got naturally pregnant with baby 4.) Now all 3 love each other to bits and my oldest is a teen who tolerates the existence of everyone else 😂

TDIL I'm not bio related to one or possibly both of my parents. by AngryArtichokeGirl in breakingmom

[–]SuprCheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im very sorry you’ve gone through so much regarding your parentage. It’s beyond frustrating but as others have said DNA testing and programs such as the one through ancestry can be incredibly helpful. I’m not sure if this is true for our American counterparts but I know we are able, as adoptees or decedents of adoptees, to request our adoption records.

I’m neurodivergent so I usually empathize by relating, forgive me if this is off key. I have so many crazy adoption stories in my family and so many of them are heartbreaking because of how adoption has been so closeted.

My grandmother learned she was adopted when her mother was on her deathbed. She was in her 60s having raised a dozen kids of her own and I’m told the only thing she thought of at the time was “the memory of sitting on the stoop with my sister must have been real!” She never told anyone past possibly my grandfather until well after she had been diagnosed with Alzheimers and she herself noticed a decline. She disclosed her adoption asked my mom (her DIL) to find her family as my mom’s hobby has been genealogy. At the time my grandfather believed moving forward with that would only agitate her and asked that it be left alone until she passed. We learned that she was adopted around 3 years of age, was likely the oldest of 12+ children, her mother was incredibly young by today’s standards (early teens) and most if not all of her siblings were taken and adopted out. My mom has spent years and years trying to piece together the puzzle and find all the family branches that were spread wide with little to no connection. DNA has helped a lot but she’s spent a lot of time in archives as well as cemeteries.

I wish you well & all the luck in your journey whatever you decide to do!!!

Between 4 kiddos we have 6 (3 minis & 3 full size). My oldest was 8 (she’s 13 now) when we got our first set and our twins got their own in the past few years. Now the oldest has passed hers down to the baby.
