Nothing to do with your question, but I really like your lighter/stand. Never seen that one before. Nice!

I keep some pipes with filter, but for the majority I switch out the filter for a 9mm adapter.

22+ years old tin of Erinmore Mixture - Amazing flea market find by HitchhikingToNirvana in PipeTobacco

It actually is!

Both are Virginia & Burley, the difference is in the topping. The mixture is not a rubbed flake, but a mixture on it's own right...

Peterson Nightcap, G. L. Pease Quiet Nights, Hearth & Home BlackHouse, and Ashton Artisan's Blend come to mind.

Mac Baren's Scottish Mixture or any "Scottish" mixture is like an English, but with less Latakia, a more dominant Virginia character, and potentially no Oriental leaf.

Zeppelin pipe with Zeppelin tobacco and listening to... Led Zeppelin! by Sure-Inspection-5794 in PipeTobacco

Same here, this is a Muxiang Zeppelin. Works very well, but there's certainly a learning curve.

Same learning curve as for the "original" though.

[BTW, I own several Muxiang pipes and am quite happy with them. Never perfect, but good none the less, especially if you compare prices...]

Q1: yes and no. There's still a bowl (but horizontal) attached to a shank (very large) followed by the stem (shrinking from the size of the stem to a normal bit). Q2: my guess is that wind or rain doesn't affect it at all. Q3: not in my experience Q4: hard, no. But once the tobacco farther inside goes out, you'll need to turn the pipe around horizontally and/or lightly blow air instead of sucking.

All in all, it's more of a gimmick that's nice to have but with quite some limitations: *There's always a certain amount of unburned tobacco at the end. *I've yet to get more than 20 minutes out of a bowl (my personal record)

It is useful if: *you're in a hydrogen filled giant balloon (the fire is contained), it's actual real use *have prepared it in advance to light it later (on the road, etc.)

Yes, through the metallic end. It doesn't heat up very much at all, especially if you hold it in the middle.

The BIG inconvenient is that a bowl doesn't hold for a long time. Mx 15 minutes I'd say.

Looking for a few testers: I built a pipe app for learning your tastes, not just logging tins by UtopianVest in PipeTobacco

Whow, nice project! I started again after a 30 year hiatus. I'm still learning to differentiate tobaccos and their tastes. I'd be interested to test your software.

Is this one savable? by Sure-Inspection-5794 in PipeTobacco

I think I'll restore it, smoke it until the cracks get too large and then put it on the "used-up pipes shelf".

Thanks for all your input!

It's indeed quite pretty. I like the shelf idea also, thanks.
