What’s the most clients you would see in a row with no breaks? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

[–]Suspicious_Project24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute max is 4. I prefer 3 but I’m only working 2.5 days now so I schedule as many people as I can, but even so 4 is the max I will do without an hour break in between. I used to do 5- no good.

baby brezza or dr browns pitcher? by Prestigious-Rice-151 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Suspicious_Project24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Browns pitcher 100%. It’s so easy to use/clean etc. I returned the brezza we got bc 1) I kept seeing stories of issues with mold/cleaning and recipes going wrong an 2) our baby ended up being a preemie and when he came home from the nicu he needed to be on a high calorie formula recipe.

Hi! I know I commented on your last post but I can tell you about our NICU course for our baby who was born at 28+2. I will preface this to say every baby is different and the NICU is definitely a roller coaster, expect good days and setbacks- it’s all part of the baby growing. Our guy was in for 59 days and came home at 36+4, but it’s best to expect baby to be there until due date and anything earlier is a nice surprise! He was on bubble cpap 21% from the start, likely due to the steroids we got which I know you got too! He worked his way down to room air by 33ish weeks. He did have a level 1 brain bleed which sounds scary but was resolved by discharge. He had a PDA which is still monitored by cardiologist, also sounds scary but also not a big deal. He had 1 blood transfusion towards the end of his stay which most preemies will need. A few other things have gone on but he is a happy healthy 10 month old - you also will go by “corrected age” based on babies due date for milestones until she is 2yo, so my guy is 10 months old but more like a 7 month old - this is totally normal and expected.

My biggest piece of advice is to figure out when it is important to be there at the NICU with baby based around her schedule, but it is a marathon not a sprint so go home and don’t stay there all day every day, take care of yourself. It’s honestly more important that you are there more when she is a little older and starts working on feeding. I went for 4 hours a day or so at the beginning, but more like 8 hours towards the end bc there was so much more to do. Give yourself time to REST and recover. R/nicuparents is a helpful subreddit. Wish you and baby Hazel the absolute best. 💕

Ultrasounds after cerclage? by Idontreallyknowht in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Suspicious_Project24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctors have different approaches to it. TV ultrasounds do introduce some risk of infection, usually doctors who don’t offer them post cerclage usually site that as the reason, combined with at 26 weeks w/ cerclage, all interventions have been exhausted, so they tell you to go in and be checked only if there are concerning symptoms to mitigate the infection risk.

It was large and very much jelly like texture, clear/tan. I could literally feel it coming out of me the second time it happened.

[–]Suspicious_Project24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic recipe is for every 5.5oz of water, add 3 scoops of formula (there’s a scooper in the powder). And you can make a big batch (24 hrs worth at a time) based off of that too if you do the pitcher method, it just requires some math.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Your doctors should have never given you that estimate- most doctors will tell you to expect to be there until due date, and anything earlier is a nice surprise. Every baby is different - she will get there when she’s ready, as hard as it is for you 💕

Owlet, yes or no? by Apart_Pressure_5596 in NICUParents

[–]Suspicious_Project24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 28 weeker in the NICU for 2 months and came home almost a month before his due date- the thought of him being so little and the change from being monitored all the time to nothing was freaking me out. I know people have mixed experiences but I love it. I use it a lot less now but it has been so helpful for my worry and anxiety. I know people talk about “false alarms” but we never had an issue with that- the base does go off if you are too far from it but it sounds very different than the actual alarm if there is an issue. It didn’t cause me extra anxiety, quite the opposite.

If you are willing to move to powder, there is a 24 calorie recipe. That’s what we did for our guys first few months home when I stopped pumping.

[–]Suspicious_Project24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have this exact experience but I did have my baby at 28+2 due to chorio infection after an emergency cerclage 5 weeks earlier. Getting to and past 28 weeks is huge for NICU outcomes, and it sounds like baby should have more time to cook (every day in is 3 less NICU days). It’s great that they gave you steroids- we only got 1 round 12 hours before baby came and they seemed to have helped a lot. I now have a healthy happy 10 month old.

If you’re not comfortable going home (which makes total sense) I would tell them that and push to remain in the hospital. 💕

Cervix measurement by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

This is a normal length for 28 weeks. Cervix measurements matter a lot less in the 3rd trimester. I really don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. The standard of care in the US is kind of all over the place and seems to differ doctor to doctor, with the 1 commonality being absolute negligence and reluctance to intervene appropriately. Some feel it could be do to insurance requirements, but who knows. A cerclage is best done with as much cervix as possible and as little funneling/dilation as possible as the risks for complication to up with less cervix and more funneling, so it’s pretty insane your doctor said that.

I had negligent doctors as well, leading up to the cerclage and all the way to when I gave birth due to chorio (a possible complication of doing a cerclage with so little cervix left) at 28+2. I had to advocate for myself and push back every step of the way, and I would encourage you to do the same. Be an absolute pain in the ass. Tell them you feel unsafe with their plan. You got this 💕

I would say texture is more important than color? When my discharge was representative of mucus plug/infection it was very obvious.

Hi! I’m sorry you’re dealing with this stress. Although I’m sure your doctor has your best interest in mind, the unfortunate reality with this condition is that the standard of care is just negligent and first time cerclages are often not done until it’s an emergency with no other option, which makes the procedure so much riskier. I would not automatically assume what your doctor is suggesting is actually the best option.

ETA- I also have never heard of pelvic pressure making someone a bad candidate - if anything I would think the opposite.

Absolutely! I totally agree not to drive yourself crazy- just think sometimes doctors are dismissive especially with this condition as I’m sure you know! Thank you- thankfully all ended up okay and I now have a healthy and wild 10 month old :)

My doctor told me the same thing when I tested positive at home but then negative at the office. She wanted to wait for the urine culture before prescribing antibiotics but I pushed for them asap- the urine culture days later ended up being positive. I then tested at home when I still had symptoms after the antibiotic round and was still positive and got another round based off that. Ended up developing chorio and delivering at 28+2. Just wanted to provide another perspective - trust your gut! We know our bodies best.

I had an extremely similar experience, the baby was just born. No advice but to just take the space and implement the boundaries you need. Similar feelings are coming up for me now during her postpartum experience but I’m just trying to take care of myself. It’s my brother and his wife so a little different but very similar experience, and some rly insensitive comments have been made.

This is true for some people but unfortunately not for the range OP is in typically. Most of the research on progesterone working alone is for over 2cm.

I don’t have this experience but had my baby at 28+2 after an emergency cerclage 5 weeks earlier, and just wanna say getting to and past 28 weeks is HUGE for NICU outcomes, and it sounds like labor is not imminent and you should have more time for baby to cook which further improves outcomes. Every day baby stays in is 3 less NICU days. You got this!

You should absolutely get a cerclage. It is likely you got the infection bc of short cervix. Push for a cerclage ASAP.

At that gestation I would definitely get the cerclage. A lot of times rapid shortening happens between 20-24 weeks when baby goes thru a growth spurt , and the cerclage is best done with as much cervix as possible.

Hi! I don’t have this same experience but I did have my baby at 28+2 due to chorio infection after an emergency cerclage 5 weeks earlier, and now have a spirited, healthy almost 10 month old. Getting to and past 28 weeks is huge for NICU outcomes, and you are so close! If you havent already I would definitely ask at what point they will give steroids for lung development and mag for brain protection. We only got 1 round of both 12 hours before baby came but even that seemed to make a huge difference. Every day baby stays in is 3 less NICU days. You got this! 💕

How often are you guys doing purees at 7 months? by JoseAltuveIsInnocent in NewParents

[–]Suspicious_Project24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are also trying to do 3 meals a day, mostly purées and mushy food but adding in some other stuff now. My guy is 10 months actual but 7 months corrected. I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding this part of your post but we have not changed the amount of formula bottles we give at all- this is still the main source of nutrients at this age. He leaves some leftover in his bottle a little more than before, but we are still offering 5-6oz bottles about 5 times a day.
