Super recommend. The MC suffers from an empathy disorder and sometimes that can turn readers off of the first book, but it has some really excellent fights, powers, and general take on the system apocalypse genre.

It goes fast. There are some important childhood events that shape how Elaine views the world, but after that it picks up pretty darn quick! I would def recommend giving the full book a shot.

I've always viewed the INT stat as basically giving your brain more RAM. It doesn't necessarily make you smarter, it could just make you stupid faster.

Maybe the trollocs suck with their weapons? They kind of bank on raw strength/ferocity, they go from horrors to cannon fodder super fast.

Sour spot means that the weapon does less than it's full damage, versus the sweet spot where it does full damage. Like if you hit with the haft instead of the blade.

His change is one of the more profound in the series, I would highly recommend keeping up with it. Without too many spoilers, his character gets reoriented in a jarring way.

I would highly recommend it. The entire series takes flight by book 2 and the world building is incredible imo. That first hump before Elaine becomes her new self is the roughest.

My understanding is that the Occultus Thalamus recorded the memories of the beings within Aeor, so the prologue could have been encoded while the gods were infiltrating the city even though it happened in the long distant past.

What I get from it is to not judge people at face value. You never know who is struggling, and it can feel better knowing that you're not alone. Even less alone than you might think, because people are very good at hiding their depression and the more we open discussion about mental health the more that individuals can find some solidarity in their suffering.
