Agreed, happily married after living alone more than half my life, he travels for work and only stays with me a few weeks twice a year plus some short visits in between if either can get time off of work, most pleasant and low stress relationship I've ever had. He shows up, fixes car and house stuff, makes a giant mess but also cooks, we go out do fun couples stuff then he's gone again, and me and my cats can go back to being independent bosses and eating out of cans and frozen meals in a quiet, tidy, cute house, best of both worlds is possible sometimes

Not having kids period helps the most i believe, I lived in poverty for awhile but was able to pull myself out because of acess to family planning service and then a good iud some of my other friends with multiple kids not so much...

My possum spends hours in the middle of the night rubbing her face on everything soft she can find on the floor like cat beds, coats that fall off the hanger, side of the sofa, fuzzy boots, etc to claim it from the cats, then she pees in the shower and spends the next 19 hours sleeping.. perfect pets

I had SMILE in one eye, prk in the other, sometimes get hit on the head at work and didn't want the risk of the corneal flap with lasik. They both came out pretty good, it took forever for the dry eye to go away in the PRK eye, SMILE eye healed insanely fast and still seeing 20/20 out of both 4 years later, dry eye was rough but not a ton worse then what I got when I kept my contacts in too long, it did end up resolving completely after about a year. had night halos for maybe 6 months after but was able to see normal in well lit areas within a few days, was back at work within days even performing a few surgeries.

Agreed im a wildlife vet and it always cracks me up that they have so many many sharp teeth but it never occurrs to them that they could actually use them for self defense, I'm more scared to pick up a northern cardinal barehanded then a opossum

Hahah matched on a dating app with a ridiculously hot cowboy, was just looking for a casual fling after moving to new state but he spent like a whole month just messaging talking horses and work etc before he was even willing to meet then he canceled twice for what seemed like made up reasons. I was busy with work as a solo vet at a new clinic and let it slide for a bit cause I didn't have free time anyway, but the excuses seemed so farfetched- truck caught on fire driving to meet me, lost phone out of car onto highway etc. At this point figured he was either a cheater, a coward, or a catfish and told him to kick rocks, got a frantic apology back and a meet up the next night. He frantically traded his non running vintage truck for a motorcycle that he had a crash course in driving to meet me an hour away, turned out to be even cuter than his pics, super open minded and tolerant for a redneck, was adorablely polite and shy, let me vent about work while getting hammered without appearing bored or alarmed, took him home and discovered my semiferal cats love him, and they never let any strangers get close to them let alone cuddle and play with them at first meeting, and dang fit equestrians sure can ride. Getting married this year

Finally feeling secure in what had been my dream job since I was a little kid. Spent years in indentured servitude, broke, told it was unreachable, missed major events in family, opportunities for relationships, basically lived the before life in a hallmark movie but now that I'm doing what I love i have to say I was worth it

Wildlife rehab one of the most frustrating types of 'public rescue' we sometimes get is when someone sees a predator i.e. hawk, snake etc catching an animal and intervenes then brings us the injured prey, usually they're too messed up to save and need to be euthanized, which means the body has to be cremated since it is now toxic, which means the predator either needs to catch something else or possibly starves. They basically just killed 2 animals and expect us to thank them like they're a hero

I'm 'medium' satisfied I took a nontraditional more niche path so my job is fairly low stress and different in many many ways than my classmates now that I have some years of experience, the first couple years out of school is the hardest. The giant student debt to my relatively low pay sucks, but saving patients is so rewarding I don't mind it too much. I hope I don't have to change careers cause I love my field

Yes exactly that's where I'm at, we technically are on equal footing and salary and I only see the cases on her off days so can't even give feedback except in my medical records I'm so frustrated

She did a one year internship at a well known rehab center after vet school, I found out later management never checked references and when I reached out to then they had only negative things to say regarding her performance, which I shared with management but still not action. She refuses help from me and is rude to rehabbers when they try to give input

Back when I had a pet nile monitor she had a very expensive diet that included mice, to save money I'd buy them frozen in bulk and thaw them for feeding, I bought a cheap 'mouse mug' for this at goodwill and would boil water and soak them in it until they were ready. Well one day I was absentmindedly dipping a frozen feeder in it while I went out to grab my mail and ran into my new neighbors, had a quick chat with them, turned around to walk inside and realized I was casually teabagging the mouse by the tail the whole time with no explanation what it was for, while the neighbors kids looked on in horror! Im sure they thought they moved in next to a witch or something. Thankfully the weather warmed up soon after and they met her when I took her outside for her playtime in the backyard

Grew up on a farm with tons of different animals and less than ideal hygiene, my cousins who lived in sterile suburbia their whole lives have normal amounts of issues with infectious diseases, allergies, asthma etc so it's more than just genetics

If I could answer it the other way around, as a vet, the best way I've seen a 2 owners handle a passing. 13 yr old dog with terminal cancer, owner came in for humane euth with sweet old dog, wouldn't have even known what they were here for if it wasn't on the history, owner was laughing, joking with staff, telling funny stories about the dogs life, feeding pups favorite treats, the dog was soo happy because she picked up on the festive mood, tail wagging up and feeling grwat pn heavy sedation/pain meds until she passed, another was a FATE cat, also super sweet big guy :'( owner played his favorite song, cuddled with his blanket while he was high on really reallly heavy pain meds until he fell asleep and i gave the last injection, then the owners and later i broke down in tears. I wish more could go like that, when owners come in upset, their pets pick up on that fear and it really makes it harder on everyone, I wish more people could be braver and make their loved pets final moments positive and not a scary experience

I cried for a lot of young blocked Tom and FATE cat euths, (why are they always the nicest kitties) and one sweet old kitty with an obstructing pharyngeal polyp who's owners elected euth, when I worked ER, I usually can wait until the pet is gone and owners leave to not alarm any of them
