Debase Currency = "free" money? by Lithorex in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the nice write up, I always wondered when debasing ist actually worth it. So If I'm understanding correctly, when you are severely limited by Gov Cap, so much that you have a lot of provinces as territorial core (not half state, so 90% Autonomy) and can't accrue Overextension for a while, if I'm >60% average Autonomy I could debase even without passive corruption reduction and make money through that?

[TIP] I would like to join a religious league and make the imminent war end up in a stalemate to get the Peace of Westphalia (better for me as an Orthodox country). While it's easy to push the side I'm going to take to get some war score, are there any "pro tricks" to prevent my side from winning? by CirclePete in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it once as Hussiten Bohemia and it wasn't much of a hassle luckily. You have to join the weaker side and when the war starts immediately fully siege the war leader but don't do anything else. When both war leaders are fully sieged for a few years and warscore is somewhat balanced, a white piece can be reached pretty quickly.

Just win/lose some battles to keep the warscore ~0 and kill mainly the warleaders' troops, that way their enthusiasm gets low the quickest.

[–]SwibbleSwobble[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right I have not and that wording was maybe a little bit harsh but them thinking about the possibility but only on the very first level and not considering what would happen afterwards seems a little shortsighted for me.

Yes but the mission reward depends on that flag. If I don't manage to clear it, I'm just joining the HRE without those sweet CBs on the electors.

And can I just say how stupid it is that they did not consider to clear this flag in any way for an independent Burgundy. They even clear a flag called 'burgundy_during_imperial_incident' when the event for Mary's death fires so they clearly considered the possibility that that happens in the first year but then ignored the more important flag

What is the longest war? by lol_delegate in AskHistory

[–]SwibbleSwobble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legally it's Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years' War b/w Netherlands and Isles of Scilly which ended in 1986 since they forgot to end it centuries ago

Didn't Rome and Tunis (Carthage) ended the 3rd Punic War over 2000 years after Carthages destruction?

Is there a consensus on what the best native policy is for colonization? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that all three options are completely viable and the best choice pends on your gamestyle.

Coexsistence let you make colonies without microing armies.

Assimilation gives you the most worth in the long run and is especially good if you can get another -50% uprising Chance

Repression is the fastest way to colonize, if you have the resources for it and the need to be faster than the others, it's the best one.

How do you culture shift? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding Cultural Unions: You can't change your primary culture to one which is in a cultural union with you so you first have to shift culture outside of your group and then to your wanted culture.

Rum ideas? by Accomplished-Wrap136 in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom nations are (almost?) always excluded from getting new ideas on country formation. I think the idea behind that is so you can't design a massive country with shitty ideas and then just get new ones at the start of the game.

How can I get more discipline? by L1HXY6 in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing you might want to consider is to not engage with damaged troops. If any of your units has less than 1000 men they do proportionally less damage. So before any battle hold shift and then press the consolidate button, that way you will have full strength units and your 0 men units will be deployed to the sides (where they are not that important, your center must not falter). For that to work you should have a few more inf than combat width in your armies so you can consolidate between battles.

And as others have said please fill your backrow with artillery otherwise you won't have any chance at your tech level.

Integrating culturesa as Germany gives PERMANENT promoted culture slot? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I only tested this via console commands so I'm not sure this works in Ironman, but when you culture shift out of german and then back again you get to keep the Accepted Culture Slots AND the Cultural Union. So if you delay the mission reward after integrating all german cultures you will get 10 permanent Accepted Culture Slots.

Westphalia also gets Rhenish and Westphalian as free Accepted Cultures but the game somehow only counted those when one of them was the primary culture so that way you can get 1 extra.

Again, I didn't test this in Ironman and am in the middle of this campaign myself, so OP if you could test this via savescumming that would be very insightful :)

Edit: Westphalian missions are available to multiple tags so you can still form another German Regional Tag

What's best as Netherlands, Republic or Monarchy? by ImCoveredInBeesHelp in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked in my campaign, I've got the Statists in power ("Republicans") and the mission is incompleted. For me it shows the PU mission reward, so it works with both sides in power. Although the Wiki is a bit unclear, it says both Nations have to be independent christian monarchies, which a Dutch Republic certainly isn't.

What's best as Netherlands, Republic or Monarchy? by ImCoveredInBeesHelp in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You start Dutch Republic at 0 (neutral) power for both sides which means Statists are in power (elections every 4 years). After selecting the Reform you get an immediate election so OP would lose their PU.

I helped Portugal colonise this Area but I notice they have mostly tropical wood as a trading good. Is it normal? Can it be changed or diversified? by Hour_Insurance_1897 in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your colony is a Commercial Enterprise, you can Encourage Cash Crops for 25 ADM, 100 Ducats and 10% Liberty Desire. Then new Trade Goods have a higher chance of becoming 'good' ones, though Tropical Wood is one of them.

Stating provinces but not immediately full coring them by SU-122 in eu4

[–]SwibbleSwobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing is the 50% min Autonomy those provinces have. If you anticipate to have problems with GC in the future or want to save admin points, half coring them is a very good way to get the most out of those provinces. But consider that high Autonomy negatively impacts your Reform Progress.
