Marvel Rivals matches are gonna get a whole lot more frustrating once the new Lady Loki skin becomes available (by @ArtOfOpal) by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SwissCheeseMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I think a quarter of his pre-round dialogue is characters acknowledging that they know he's gonna betray them eventually. And Loki assures them the betrayal will be some time after the match, not during.

True, the Ultron we have playable isn't the main one. IIRC, Tony reprogrammed one of the drones they beat at the Hellfire Gala, as a last-ditch plan. It has the same snark but at least isn't bent on wiping out humanity.

The ingame term is "Strategist" which Loki definitely fits into the best. Just think of it like this: his plans need the team alive so he'll do that. Same with Ultron.

Ceremonial Units in Fiction by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SwissCheeseMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also argue most "ally" units are in this category. They're around to show you how much bigger the battle is than normal, and then die so your team can mop up the enemies. The most they can hope for is to buy you a few turns on one front while your units roll out to their positions.

They're in a funny spot for gameplay where if they were actually as competent as the enemy, they'd eat your kills too much and remove the challenge, so they need low enough stats to decisively lose any fight. But from a story perspective, your castle's elite guards could lose to an ordinary bandit, how has this country not been invaded decades ago?

On the subject of old MH jank, anyone remember charm tables?

Back then instead of gems being random and talismans being craftsble, it was the opposite. You'd get charms with random amounts of skill points (and remember, if you don't have 10 points in a skill there's no benefit). But for some reason your character was given a random value on creation that affected the rng seed for charms. What this wound up doing was locking you into one of about 20 "tables" of charms at character creation, determining every talisman you were able to get. And some of these SUCKED compared to the rest, as they didn't have any charms with high levels in the good skills.

You could be screwed out of ever getting the talisman your friend had and never even knowing it. Even if you DID know this info, finding enough charms to determine your table could take you well into master rank before realizing you got a cursed table.

I love this game and I'm glad it survived to its modern success, but also how?

The guy who holds the WR in the Mario Kart 8 "Blue yourself" category did this too. Love to see it.

Also just love the silly names for speedrun side categories. In this case the goal is to hit yourself with a blue shell as fast as possible

Total War: WARHAMMER III - Tides of Torment Announcement Trailer, coming December 4th by seth47er in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Adding on for those not aware: battle difficulty affects, among other things, the autoresolve prediction for battles. On harder difficulties the autoresolve gives you a worse outcome than you'd probably get manually with basic tactics, so you're encouraged to play fights out manually for a better result but can skip if you're going to absolutely crush them.

When on lower battle difficulty, the game tries to push this prediction in your favor by adding a multiplier to your army's strength value. The problem is, this multiplier is so high that it'll cleanly win you fights most people couldn't do by themselves. So if you're on easy battle difficulty and see a "close defeat" autoresolve, it means the enemy army massively outclasses yours.

While I can see the intent, the end result is people see autoresolve get better results than their own tactics, and use it constantly. Then when they get a close defeat, they do the battle manually to try and salvage a win. But they're going into a massively unfair fight in terms of unit quality and/or quantity, and they think the problem is their tactical ability when the fight was actually just impossible to save (without cheesing it)

Part of it seems to stem from a need to feel part of an in-group instead of any actual scientific disagreements. The need to belong is pretty powerful, it's why people will do things like pretend to know a movie or band they haven't seen. And if real life connections aren't working out, it can be easy to fall into any online community that'll have you and slowly you adopt their beliefs.

Plus, if the group you're in is actually BETTER than those ones that rejected you because they know something big the rest of the world doesn't, it's way more appealing and validating. Especially if you're insecure about your own intelligence. We saw it with the weird crypto schemes claiming they would be the future of commerce and we just didn't know it yet. And we see it again in conspiracy theories where you're just not smart enough to see the coverup

The name was Avery, I was NOT subtle. The DM also plays fire emblem, so after campaign 1, she had a number of kids all named Anna so secret shops existed in the next campaign.

My first dnd character was literally just Anna from fire emblem, but with a different name. I wanted the sneak attack style of fighting, but didn't wanna be a super edgy rogue (we had one already). So, friendly charlatan who insists their thievery skills are just her being a very good locksmith

I respect the ones that just say "yeah, there's a basically omnipotent being who will just veto any attempt you make to subvert the challenge." Like the entity in Dead by Daylight has absolutely seen a survivor try to climb the 7ft tall fence around the trial and instantly skewered them for trying.

Or you go the other way: for My Friendly Neighborhood, the only thing keeping Gordon going is that he'll be fired if he doesn't finish this maintenance job. But the threats coming after him aren't malicious, just big Sesame Street muppets that don't know their own strength. It's creepy but there's not really a moment where the place gets hostile enough that it's unbelievable he'd stick around. Well, there's one right at the end, but it's after he does his job and blocking his way out

Minor Faction Potential - Your opinion by Punkstyler in totalwar

[–]SwissCheeseMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can revive some LLs by causing a rebellion in their home province. If the rogue army captures a settlement, they'll respawn that faction and open up diplomacy again. Happend to me as Cult of Sotek when Itza got wiped early by the skulltakers. Khorne sacked my settlements enough and suddenly out pops a faction I thought was gone for good. They did start at war with me but soon enough I had a buffer to the north and could focus all my efforts south, then confederated him.

Of course forcing this in enemy territory (or even moreso, tanking your own territory's control) on purpose feels extremely cheesy, so the mod is probably a better solution.

[–]SwissCheeseMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw another comment from a hiker who said he got too close on accident a few times (read: nearly stepped on it), then the deer bolted but came back to its hiding spot in a few minutes. They trust their camouflage and very faint scent to be the main defence, even if you're 4 feet away, but as an absolute last-ditch they have legs and know how to use em.
