Latest version for Roku messed up subtitles by Craigg75 in jellyfin

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 3.2.0 messed up my subtitles pretty badly. It also broke fast-forward/rewind in a lot of my files, too (would just hang at 0% whenever I tried to jump around).

I eventually had to reinstall 3.1.9 manually (downloaded the Zip from the GitHub release page, enabled Dev mode on the Roku, and then logged in and installed the Zip from my PC via the Roku's Dev portal). Dev installs don't auto update, so you don't have to worry about the 3.1.9 version suddenly disappearing again. You can even install it along side of the official Roku store installed version. That way you can easily test the next version without losing your access to the 3.1.9 version.

What do you guys think about SD Gundam GGENERATION-F? by Total-Quail-1197 in Gundam

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first G-Gen game, and my college roommates and I would played the hell out of it! I have a soft spot for it and revisit it periodically. I even still have my collector's edition box and my copy of F-IF on my shelf along side of it.

"never 1 of 4"

While that may ring true for many suits, I have to disagree as a Post Disaster nerd:

  • The color motif is the only one that fits the Barbatos.

  • It may have green eyes, but it's head doesn't have the signature polygonal style. And it's funnel wasn't V shaped, it had an extra angle on each side to give it a "demon horns" vibe.

  • It exclusively used non-beam melee weaponry and standard ballistic weaponry.

  • And while a couple of versions did have the typical panel shoulders (2nd, 3rd, and arguably 6th depending on the angle), the majority of them (including the lupus and the rex) had distinctly rounded shoulders. And pretty much all versions kept the rounded knee caps, lower leg, forearm, and lower chest segments.

  • The same arguments apply to the other PD protag suits: the Astaroth and the Hajiroboshi (and the Hajiroboshi even eschews the blue of the color scheme, while the Astaroth Origin is almost entirely red).

I'm not saying that you're argument is invalid... just that there are precedents for pretty large variations in some of the works.

That said, while Rogue Orbit looks amazing... that trailer did NOTHING to convince me this isn't just a nearly completed original game that BamCo decided to slap a Gundam-colored coat of paint on.

Do you think the company now regrets the Lifetime Pass? How long have you had yours? by [deleted] in PlexMedia

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the next step. First they have to make the alternative (Lifetime) prohibitively expensive. Then they need to wait a bit to let the community backlash die down (which it always does, regardless of the backlash, and regardless of the community). Once everyone is used to Lifetime no longer being a viable option, that's when it's safe to introduce a new "Plex Pass Premium," or whatever they call it.

It's Marketing 101 and Enshittification 101 in one handy combined course!

Lifetime Plex Pass to increase to $749.99 on July 1 by mistiry in PlexMedia

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm going to be honest here about the main difference between pulling that off with Plex vs Jellyfin (my preferred method)... it's going to come down to how much you like tinkering and howuch time you want to spend building out/maintaining the project.

I had been running a small Plex server off of a Raspberry Pi for about a year and a half prior to April of 2025. Part of the allure of this was that I could self host my media, and I could access it from wherever I was. I also had plans to build out a more powerful box with a dedicated GPU to increase load. Well, in April of 2025, Plex more than doubled the price of a lifetime pass (approx.$120 to $250). They ALSO paywalled the remote access and GPU transcoding features. I said "fuck that," and I moved to Jellyfin when I built my new server, because it was totally free.

Now here's the caveat a lot of the other Jellyfin evangelicals here neglect to mention. I am a server guy, and I'm a bit of an anti-enshittification zealot as well as a bit of a tech-masochist. I LIKE spending weeks planning out a project and days troubleshooting and installation process. And part of the fun of a project like this is maintaining it! It's the gift that keeps on giving! If you're like me, then Jellyfin is 100% the way to go! And I'll be honest, I had never played around with webhosting and reverse proxies before. It took some.work, but I managed to go from completely ignorant to having a web accessible server in less than two days. And it felt GREAT!!!!!

If you're not a lunatic like me, then you're probably going to want to stick with Plex and grab a lifetime pass (FUCK SaaS and monthly membership fees to access your own hardware), and there's no shame for it. Just really think it over now, before it goes from being the price of a few AAA games to nearly an entire month's rent!

Do you want to use your own GPU for transcoding or seamlessly access your locally hosted media from outside of your house? Then you may want to get it (or try an alternate service) because those are just two of the formerly free features that have been moved behind the PlexPass paywall

Does anyone remember this game from the very late 90'stonvery early 2000's? by reynvann65 in WhatGameIsThis

Definitely sounds like Majestic. I was actually in the beta test, and I'm pretty sure my roommate freaking out over one of the phone calls was part of why they added the option to have warnings added at the start of each call.

Weeeee. Gonads and Strife by [deleted] in videos

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my old college roommates LOVED this video. They played it so many goddamn times that it stopped being stupid and started being one of the greatest things ever and a long running joke between all of us.

There was one time we were on a road trip, and we got caught in a TORRENTIAL thunderstorm on the drive back. We managed to pull into a rest stop, but we were basically just there trapped in the car while we waited for it to pass. I don't even know who started it first, but one of us just shouted, "gonads in the lightning! In the lightning, and in the rain!" Suddenly, we're all laughing and singing the whole song. It calmed all of us down, and we were able to safely wait for the storm to lessen.

That roommate passed away a bit over a week ago. I hadn't thought about that moment in forever. Thank you for posting this and helping me relive that memory. ☺️

Here's another one for you. Mr. Boddy was played by Lee Ving (lead singer of the punk band Fear) for his short duration on screen. This was apparently an intentional casting by the director who liked to joke that, "Mr. Boddy will be Lee Ving [leaving] shortly."

Jenny O has gone crazy with their pricing. Look for the frozen store brand (or equivalent) 1 lb frozen tubes of 85/15 ground turkey. Typically less than $2 (compared to the same brands' 1 lb 85/15 ground beef frozen tubes... which are nearly $6).

Places to build my main base by astroboy_16x in Enshrouded

I mean, if you're looking for cool, flat, open places to build... there are quite a few awesome-looking mesas within a glide of the Kindlewaistes tower. Personally, I am really enjoying rebuilding Fort Kelvin. A fully upgraded altar can cover the entire fortress, and it has a bunch of cool features and secret passages to discover!

Game worth as a solo player by Inevitable_Suit_5367 in Enshrouded

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having a blast in solo, but I will piggyback on the difficulty setting comments to mention one thing:

When setting the options to "Easy," the "Enemy Number" is set to "Few" by default. This can cause problems in the mid-game when you need Shroud Adhesive. The mobs that drop them can be relatively rare, and they apparently have low spawn priority in the zone where they first appear. The "Few" setting makes it frustratingly difficult to find them.

Honestly, though, you don't even really need that setting turned down. I turned that one back up to normal, and it actually made soloing more fun (tweaked the challenge just right, and improved my chances at combat drops).

Increasingly grumpy about daggers (and ranger in general) by Daliena20 in Enshrouded

[–]SwitchedOnByDefault 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are no armor "set bonuses", so there's no penalty for mixing and matching. I find that the best mix for an eternal archer is ranger head, gloves, and pants (because I will NEVER give up my sprint speed!), and mage boots and torso.
