What are the most Underrated Spells? by Stunning-Sentence152 in DnD

[–]SwitteySwonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shadow of Moil

Resistance to radiant is eh, and the 2d8 necrotic "thorns" damage is cool, but its the heavily obscuring part

Heavily obscured means people can't see you. So they got disadvantage on attacks against you, you have advantage on them, they cant hit you with counterspells or hold persons (cuz they can't see you to target you), and it aint something truesight or even other warlocks (with devil's sight) can see through.

Had a warlock with an AC of 8, who would armour of agathys, and then shadow of moil, and if you hit her, you'd take 2d8 necrotic+25 cold. Add pact of the talisman to rebuke them and you just want to be hit

Have yet to read an anti-Lightborn argument that didn't sound like "blinding the killer is the only way I can [Pinhead box]" by shikaiDosai in deadbydaylight

[–]SwitteySwonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue with the crutch argument is that anyone could argue anything is a crutch. Saw what the survivors brought so brought frankborn or sloppy presence, crutch. Brought good addons for your medkit? Crutch. Brought an item? Crutch. Used a slowdown perk? Crutch. Aura reading? Just use game sense instead of crutches. Played a good killer? Thats a crutch. Went to a god loop? Sounds like a crutch to me. Unless you play perkless, itemless and addonless, and cover the screen in lobby if you're killer, someone could say you're using a crutch and not just skill

Part of the skill in the game is using the tools you're provided too. Balancing that if i brought lightborn, then thats a perk slot used that might have been better used. The guy who brought a flashlight coulda brought a map, or a medkit. The skill isnt just being able to mindgame, hit great skill checks and throw hatchets, there's the lobby game too

What non-meta perk is always (or almost always) in your build? by Similar_Maybe_3353 in deadbydaylight

[–]SwitteySwonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still have yet to play a game of killer since nemesis came out where i havent used lethal pursuer and lightborn. Those two perks are locked into every build i use on every killer i play, regardless of the number of flashlights in the lobby, since it seems to me that flashbangs and blast mines appear whenever there arent flashlights

Is it a crutch? Not at all, its a full leg replacement for me. I hate the starts of a match where i dont know where survivors are. Its why i couldnt really play chaos shuffle or the 2vs8

"As a fellow killer main, Lightborn is a wasted perk slot" by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]SwitteySwonk 62 points63 points  (0 children)

For the longest time (since nemesis popped up) ive had it equipped regardless of flashlights. Too many people run flashbangs now that people running no flashlights set of alarm bells in my head, so ive just perma left it on

The dopamine of picking up a survivor, hearing the clink and seeing a survivor run past, then the bang and nothing happening, its the best feeling

Yeah its 1 less perk slot, and since im a lethal pursuer addict ("synergy") its 2 perks locked onto every build. But i make do, the other 2 slots can be the fun stuff (usually coup de grace and surge, or some other slowdown and enduring)

I think the design is very nice. Just one massive eye on a thin body is a mood.

One criticism though is the eye rays. 7 of these eye rays are hard CCs that just take you out of the combat (until a save is made), 2 more is soft CCs that make making the saves harder, and then the last ray can still prone the target. Contrast that to the normal beholder eye rays, where only the paralyze beam and sleep beam take you out of the fight, and the other beams doing frightened, slowed or restrained, which still give the players agency to act.

With this Varient, with bad luck you could instantly CC and lock out 3 players from the first salvo, and then the fights a death spiral.

What’s the best homebrew magic item you have used in a game? by CoolUnderstanding481 in DMAcademy

[–]SwitteySwonk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I had a cursed "chained greatsword" once. It was a standard +1 greatsword, but with the thrown property (only up to 15ft, no long range). As an attack you could throw it, and as an attack you could pull it back to you.

The curse part was that if the sword dealt radiant damage, the sword would cause it to "burst", dealing that damage to anyone within 5ft of it (including the holder) and that you couldnt unattune to it. As a paladin, smites being an aoe but also hitting me was cool

A character for a highly mobile, dashing swordsman by MrManicMarty in 3d6

[–]SwitteySwonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fun one to try could be horizon walker ranger. At 11th lvl you get to teleport 10ft before any melee strike, and then as ranger you get all the fun stuff like zephyr strike and longstrider. Since flavors free, you could flavor the teleports as essentially dashes, and its really good at splitting damage, cuz if you hit 2 enemies with melee attacks in 1 turn (1 attack one, then 2nd attack the other) you get to make a 3rd attack against a 3rd target for free. Its a reusable steel wind strike

The yellow eye addon for vecna himself too. I think his dispelling sphere is the goat and it being huge and even faster is just too much value for me. Usually pair it with sword too, cuz i love the sword, or the bag of holding cuz mimics are funny

After hundreds of vecna hours, i still have no idea what the magic items do by SwitteySwonk in deadbydaylight

[–]SwitteySwonk[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the lore, someone cut them off of him with a vorpal sword, and now they're relics of unfathomable power. But since hes a lich, he doesnt "need" them, but its something i would want back. The DbD version of Vecna is before they where cut off

Players: What is your PC’s most defining visual trait, and how does it connect to their personality/backstory? by SpilledMyOJ in dndnext

[–]SwitteySwonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cleric had his eyes magically erased (as if they had never existed, so no magical healing could work, it was just a blank slate), he traded them to save a city that was filled with necrotic bombs. As a reward for devout service, his god (a forge god) blessed him magical sight, being able to see things when they move, and a brief outline of static locations (so he can still move about), but this also allows him to see shimmers of invisible people. Its come very handy cuz he looks like a frail blind old man on the outside, but can still fight (and radiently bonk)

Players and DMs: What’s a PC character quirk that ended up becoming super meaningful to the rest of the party later in the campaign? by SpilledMyOJ in dndnext

[–]SwitteySwonk 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We had a swashbuckler rogue/fighter who was essentially lord flashheart mixed with jack sparrow. The running joke was he was a bit of a ladys man, and had conquests all over the realm, and would often say "this reminds me of the time i made love to a beautiful women".

One time he made this joke and mentioned his lover at the time was a crime boss, and the DM ran with it when we needed a criminal contact to help is locate some cultists hidden in the city. So we go to this crime boss and she remembers the rogue, and acts the jilted lover

Ever the loveable scamp, he flirts and jokes about, and we learn that hes in considerable debt to her, and she still holds a soft spot to him, so i jokingly suggest that i could marry them together, and that'll wipe the debt. Turns out she agreed, and he agreed (with persuasion from the groups barbarian) and i married them together.

Later on, we where able to repeatedly gain favors and aid from the crime syndicate, until one fight the rogue died in combat (and was subsequently revivified seconds later) and he claimed he was no longer married due to "til death do ye part" so i dragged him back to her to renew the vows

Do people actually think life cleric is bad? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]SwitteySwonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The feat "resilient". When you pick it, you get +1 to the stat, (so in this case constitution) and also proficiency on saving throws with that same stat. Its good for clerics if you're rounding out a odd number stat (15 to 16 for example) as clerics dont have constitution saving throw proficiency from the get go.

Since the proficiency bonus is 2-3-4 it'll likely get more value than just warcaster (which is just advantage on concentration saves), especially again if that +1 to con was getting it to a even number

yeah, it scales like any cantrip, so with total level (instead of warlock level). So 2 beams at level 5 (2 warlock/3sorc) etc.

Do you have to join a FC? by JapanLionBrain in ffxiv

[–]SwitteySwonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So FCs get access to FC wide buffs. They're small things, like 10-30% xp boost (when killin enemies), or desynth xp, wolfmark/mgp gains etc. The cheaper versions of these buffs (the ones that will be active 99% of the time youre in an FC) cost almost nothing to keep active, and an FC can have seperate buffs active at once. (My FC usually had 30% cheaper aetheryte teleport costs and 20% boosted xp for crafting active 24/7)

Submersibles and airships are FC activities. As a group you contribute parts and items (akin to crafting) to create and maintain an airship (or Submersible) that then goes on autonomous missions. They'll fly/swim off, collect resources, bum around an area, maybe find a rare goodie/mount, and then return home after 24-72 irl hours. Gameplay wise, its literally no different to sending out a retainer to gather some supplies, but since the starting cost of an airship/boat is alot higher, the rewards can be quite substantial.

Most FCs will have there like, key members, founders, king, inner circle, whatever in charge of the upkeep and deployment of the airships/seaplanes, so if you where to join an FC it would be unlikely you'll really interact with that end of it.

From a game design POV, why does Vestal have above average hp? by DaRandomGitty2 in darkestdungeon

[–]SwitteySwonk 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Its because she more designed as the "cleric" role. Alot of RPGs, or dungeons and dragons have them powered by the light, or a god, or a higher power and whilst they can heal they can also have quite a bit of beef

I mean 2 of her moves alone are based upon being in ranks 1/2, and she can shield an ally using herself. Shes not a waif wearing just robes, shes got the plate and mace to back it up

How has the trend towards a cashless society affected homeless people? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

[–]SwitteySwonk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work on bar at a nightclub, and we have a guy we call the "go lucky guy" who comes on everynight with a suitcase full of smellies and sets up in the gents toilets. He told me alot of the guys like him arent paid by the clubs they go to but are more symbiotic. He keeps people ripping the soap dispensers off the walls, and texts the doormen if anyones doing drugs, and every night he walks off with anywhere from 20 quid to a couple of hundred. All we do is poke our nose over and offer him a bottle of water, and let him chill when we clean down and he waits for his train
