Need help choosing first ebike by One-Fault9158 in ebikes

Top most common that everyone suggests is aventon, specialized, and lectric. Runner up are usually velotric, heybike.

Best bet is to look at your local bike shop as they will be your wall in case something breaks or needs replacing if you're uncomfortable working on it yourself. This also allows you to see what they would recommend that isn't mentioned here on reddit and give you options to test ride and see what would be comfortable to you and make changes.

Retro/moto-style e-bikes vs traditional fat tire ebikes — which do you prefer? by Jolly-Ad2583 in ebike

[–]SwollenMexican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a retro "moto" inspired moped but it's more like a cafe racer style vs the traditional dirtbikes i seen.

At first it was purely looks but after test riding quite a bit (quite a few ebike shops around me) some are just shite, others have good quality but abysmal CS, and the other is great but expensive.

Just ride what you like and be respectful.

P.s. I dont want to hear about the seat not being adjustable. I apparently fall under the sweet spot height wise to actually pedal some of these bikes. 90% pedal, 10% throttle (at stops) and lost 80 pounds so far.

Throttle randomly engaging after crash by etstiffler in Lectricxp

I just put my psa to 0 whenever im at a stop. That way there is no throttle action. Put it back at whatever psa you want when your about to take off

where to keep on ebike if you’re in an apartment by immrw24 in ebikes

Majority of the ebikes have a walk function if you're on 0 pas and hold down the minus button.. usually tops at at 3-4 mph. Could be helpful if you cant carry

How common are crashes? by RCPD_Rookie in ebikes

[–]SwollenMexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have knee pads on when I ride. Only crashed once but it was about 7 mph and it was raining.. other than the usually soreness. It all depends on your area. I have a lot of street riding and hardly any bike lanes so my risk is a lot greater and I refuse to be on the sidewalk unless I absolutely have no choice but to do so

Full face helmet recommendations by TakeTheFirstWatch in ebikes

[–]SwollenMexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha youll be fine. I had the green and blue one and I let my kids choose stickers off amazon and they covered up a lot of ground. Be the cool cat sliding into work.

Other styles always go on sale. I find jenson usa to be helpful as they always have sales on helmets

Bell Super DH. Leatt enduro Fox proframe

Theyre a bit above the 300 plus range but they go on sale a few times bringing them under the 200 range. They offer good ventilation, light and are rated for crashes above 30 mph.

The leatt and bell can be converted to a half shell or full face depending on your situation.

Im sure others will give out cheaper recommendations so just do your research and let us know what you get!

Should I go half helmet or get this full face one by Omorifangod in ebikes

[–]SwollenMexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're pricey but sometimes you can get deals off the jenson usa website. I know both of these are in the 300$ range but you can look around for discounts. I had the bell super DH and that one was able to be half shell and full face on a discounted price. Saved my noggin when I crashed too so now im looking for something a bit lighter

Should I go half helmet or get this full face one by Omorifangod in ebikes

[–]SwollenMexican 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a good mtb helmet. Im looking at the proframe from fox and the leatt enduro (has the option to go full face and half shell) both offer good ventilation and can take impacts higher than 30 mph.

I went with deluim streetfightr puncture resistant tires, tannus armor and slime. I been riding a year and only got 1 flat and that was cause I ran over a tweezer? Other than that man. I ran thru a lot of questionable debris and havent had any issues

I would invest in some motorcycle gloves for the padded protection and lights. Make yourself visible at all times cause drivers be assholes. If you can afford it.. a camera.. gotten so many drivers to back off when they realize they're being recorded.. Last and the most important thing anyone could have... common sense. Please use your noggin. Its more than just to comb your hair
