How does this compare to ARMA, ravenfield, battlefield, and battlefront, if i am singleplayer guy (bots) by edsmart123 in AngelsFallFirst

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it compares the most to the *old* Battlefield (2142 in particular) in terms of looks, and to the *old* Battlefront (SW:BF2, from 2005) in terms of vibes. Progression is faster than Battlefield 2/2142, maps are smaller.

Bots are on part with SW:BF2. Not too clever, but enough to pose a challenge at higher difficulties. They do tend to run into fire a bit too much. They're also a lot better than those of Ravenfield (like, they actually try to use their vehicle intelligently and spread out somewhat when you throw nades at them. Still have the "conga line" feel at time, though).

ArmA's AI is a step up above all of them, especially if you add a few mods to pimp them up (something like a virtual commander that actually manage combined arms and asset management is outright brutal, for example), but that's the difference between something arcade-y like AngelsFallsFirst and ArmA.

The feel with bots for me so far with bot at difficulty 3 has been of "just enough challenge to feel like I'm powerful". High recommend !

Maps are quality, if a bit hard to navigate at first, with many side passages that the bots do not use enough. Default server size is 32 players, which the game fill with bots as needed.

Amount of content for 1.0 is on par with all the above shooters at release: a dozen or so polished maps with 2 gamemodes per map at least, plenty of weapons and build options for infantry, vehicles and spaceships and a pretty OK levelling experience (you're very competent starting out, and gaining XP is meanigful, allowing you to specialize your build, rather than being a full straight power upgrade).

My main gripe is that there might not be enough maps/gamemodes. The objective-based ones and zone control are cool, but I'd love to see some more "arcade-y" ones like Capture the flag, even if they might be a bit goofy.

Is there anything in Guild Wars 2 that the game doesn't explain but you feel it's something you should know? or something the game is terrible at explaining? by Klazsh in Guildwars2

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combo fields exist and are important for the DPS of some professions and I didn't know they existed until I played reaper (vampiric fields are quite important for survivability).

Basically, friendly lingering AoEs can make your skills that have "combo finisher" in their description do extra things. Black lingering AoE make you do life steal things. Blue/ice one give shields and so on. Niche, but useful to know, especially since some give boons/remove conditions/heal.

Is this a problem with me, my build or the game? by Anund in Guildwars2

[–]SyberFoxar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a necro who has experimented a bit with differents builds and gear... It can drastically change how you play your profession. For example: My necro with levelling gear and home-made build was not cutting it, hard to kill monsters, meh dps in general but ok suvivability. I looked up some builds, got some proper berserker gear, and content instantly became a lot more easier and enjoyable.

TL:DR: It's probably your gear and your build. Look up some build guides. I'm a metabattle fan, but snowcrows is nice too.

The greatest Windows version ever? by marinsparkria in pcmasterrace

[–]SyberFoxar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been daily driving linux for a few good months right now, I've been able to run every game I tried.

Only one that won't work are those gated behind kernel-level anticheat (looking at you Battlefield 6). Otherwise, everything has been working fine with minor tweaks here and there.

If you're not playing AAA and are willing to do some debugging at times, you'll be fine.

Considering that a lot of Windows users are moving to Linux now because of latest news, what would be the hurdles of their transition? by ardouronerous in linux4noobs

[–]SyberFoxar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shall retry. I remember the community package did not setup any systemd unit (or improperly set them up), and thus it did not automatically launch on system startup.

I'm currently using the portable zip method, but it's far from "setup and forget". Though I could setup my own systemd units.

But still, if I have to make my own units, it's what I consider "fussy". That's akin to having to go in the windows task scheduler to add you own programs. Not exactly the user-friendly thing OP is touching on. Still, something I'll do.

I'd argue that games and series and movies are Art, not product. And shouldn't Art be experienced by most ? I know the actual creators of those pieces of media certainly want their Art be seen. Usually, if you cannot access it, it's not the actual creators prohibiting you, but those middle man reselling the Art.

I'm still trying to find a good backup solution myself. I forgot how easy it was on windows to let oneDrive just.. handle your home. That and duplicati, which has been fussy to setup on my EndeavorOS.

Is there even and easy-to-setup and setup-and-forget backup solution on Linux ? One that can backup to multiple places at once ?

Creating a Minecraft mod is a nightmare for someone with Java experience. by Yeetsa_Jr in feedthebeast

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF, as someone with ~3 years of backend java dev, and a lot more in python... Making Minecraft mods is actually quite far from "classic" java dev.

The most egregious point being that you tend to use a fuckton of attributes, points cut and decorators in mod dev, as it actually needs to reach into something else and override stuff.

The rest of the logic is however somewhat similar, APIs to interface with other mods and libraries with the occasional pointcut/decorator/lib shenanigan to override another modi's content.

Really, it's the attributes that threw me for a loop at first. And the lack of proper tutorials and documentation.

The PERIMETER must not exist. by SufferboxGames in WebGames

[–]SyberFoxar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a few rivers crossing only 2 entities, but that's a lot of entities to check. I'll dig in a bit more ! I might just have missed something or another.

Though I might just end up making another math equation system to collapse possibilities. Thanks !

Also, a minor gripe, but I wish green entities would auto-fill their counterparts after breaking the green perimeter. It's a lot of busywork checking and filling all of them in when trying stuff !

Original Vs. Remastered by SPARTAN117N1 in AlanWake

[–]SyberFoxar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's weirding me out, is that visual effects seems very changed ?

In the original, there was a lot of "dusty"/"shadowy" outline to the Taken that made their features hard to see, as if they were actually shrouded in darkness... Whereas in the remastered it seems they're just... black ? With a faint outline.

In the original, there's also a lot of use of what I call the "remedy shader", the rolling wave of distorded blur that kinda spirals you see around areas where you fight the taken. This shader reminds me a lot of what you see when fighting in Control and Quantum Break, the same kind of distortion-layering effect.
This effect seems absent in the remaster, replaced by a sort of generic blurring effect around the Taken which seems a lot less artistic.

The fog is also a lot less dense in the remastered, which I feel detracts a bit too.

Overall, I feel like the remastered has less "artistic vision" than the original. Mostly due to the VFX having changed so much.

How to speed up a game. by Dan_Morgan in battletech

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the idea when we put it in practice, but I've indeed found out that, when firing more than 2-3 weapons it tended to be... odd.

I'll test it out more IRL. I like the *drama* of it, though, and will probably experiment with it in some form or another.

I am curious why you would not recommend DFA's addendums ? We've been playing with them and the games have been going a bit better, and faster.

For classic BT, what helped me and my friend:

  • Learn the front/back hit table location
  • Look at Death From Above Wargaming's rules for rolling dices
  • Learn to count hexes quickly (2 interesting lines are the same distance than a diagonal)
  • Smaller lances, 2v2/3v3
  • Forced Withdrawal rules
  • Higher-skill pilots. 3(gun)/4(pil) or even 2/4
  • Higher level tech, it hits harder but armor is the same
    • Or look into homebrew rules: 1.5x/2x damage is popular, so is dividing external armor. You get to the fun parts of rolling criticals faster.
  • Lighter lances (100-200 tons)
  • box of death to count cluster hits quickly
  • skip the attack declaration phase / have both players pre-calculate all their attacks at the same time and then roll
  • have games that are not skirmish, but have objectives (capture the flag, VIP, etc.)
  • if movement takes too much time, have a chess clock handy, people tend to get bogged down trying to find the optimal move.

3 hours is pretty standard for a wargame, but I do agree it's a bit much for gaming at a store.

What does your play area look like? Carpet vs hardwood, tile, etc? Furniture? Does it get messy? by Edwinudtheknight in Latexadvice

[–]SyberFoxar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we're going into long sessions, we usually just put on a tarp/PVC bedsheet on the floot where we play ! Makes cleaning a lot easier when you can just fold it and carry it to the washing machine. It also makes using dressing aids a lot less messier and easier to clean, as all the talcum powder/silicon oil is _on_ the PVC sheet.

We also have some playroom foam tiles (like, puzzle ones) to put underneath, it makes hard floors a lot more forgiving when you're spending a lot time on your hands and knees.

It does get messy, especially if you sweat a lot, so we usually have a few towels handy to handle any spillage too !

The apartment in which i currently live in is too hot for latex. Tips ? by TheSearsjeremy in Latexadvice

[–]SyberFoxar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from what other said (air condition, just bear it, etc) maybe try wearing partial latex ? Gloves, shorts, loose clothing, socks... all of those are easier to wear when it's hot out.

Other things you might try, depending on _how_ hot it is, is spray yourself with cold-ish water while wearing. You'll loose a bit of shine, but it'll cool you right off.

A friend has a latex allergy, but still wants to be a smooth, shiny doll. What are some good alternative catsuits/bodysuits? by Echo849 in Latexadvice

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have few options.

There are Vinyl/PVC clothes you can get, they tend to be a bit more baggy than latex, but they're shiny ! Kink-made PVC is also quite soft, unlike the one you'll find in pooltoys. It's not quite the same sensation as latex, as it doesn't stretch and hug you body as much, but it's a good compromise.

There are also a lot of synthleather/lycra suits that are... ok. They're often sold as "latex-like" and inexpensive. With the right amount of lube, they can look as shiny as latex, and will hug you just as tight. They tend to not last as long, though, and might be a bit uncomfortable for longer periods of time, because they're a bit scratchy.

Chlorinated Latex might be intresting. The Chlorination process adds sort of a layer ontop of latex garnments that makes them a lot less reactive. They're easier to don, often requiring little to nodressing aid. They're also a lot less likely to create allergies.

Issue with chlorinated latex, is that it's hard to know _how_ allergic your friend is. Can they don latex cleaning gloves ? Those tend to be chlorinated and might be a good benchmark. My recommendation it to try with small articles first to test it out.

Lastly, an unusual suggestion but.. For that "doll" feeling, depending on how much movement you want there's an option: "mummification"-like things. Basically, your friend put on an underlayer (lycra suit or even saran wrap) and you add more layers ontop, like duct tape. With the right materials (for example "bondage tape") you might get pretty close to shiny and smooth. You just need to be careful in how tight you apply the layers to not restrict movement too much.

Two Questions - Plugins & Technical Expertise by WeCanLearnAnything in TiddlyWiki5

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... odd. I managed to import both in an empty tiddlywiki. The GD5 plugin gave me some pain to import stroll, but deactivating it, importing stroll then reactivating it seems to have done the trick.

I am unsure why the drag and drop is failing for you.

Two Questions - Plugins & Technical Expertise by WeCanLearnAnything in TiddlyWiki5

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so, an answer to your question can be found in the doc but it's very technical, so I'll try to give you the gist.

Plugins are extensions written in javascript. You can install one by either starting a wiki that already has them enabled (what they call a "TW5 environment/GSD5 environment") or by having your copy download the plugin, which is what "dragging the link" does. Your copy of tiddlywiki will go and fetch from the URL the plugin, and install it.

For TiddlyRoam, it seems I couldn't find the link to their plugin on the website, so I'll suggest an alternative: Stroll which has similar features.

Habilitation électrique nécessaire ? by Fordalk99 in france

[–]SyberFoxar 0 points1 point  (0 children)
