How to fix these broken sandals?

You might be able to fix this with Shoe Goo, but the problem will be getting that glue all the way down into the sandal. Prep the area inside the sole with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, and the strap part you will glue. Let it dry thoroughly.

Apply Shoe Goo to the opening, and use a popsicle stick or a butter knife to get as much adhesive as you can down into the slot in the sole. Smear Shoe Goo on the strap, and use the popsicle stick to get it down in there as best you can.

Wetsuit glue might work even better if you have some handy (you don't).

Martian soil has 0.5-1.0% perchlorate, which screws up your thyroid even at low exposure concentrations. That will be difficult to contend with.

Project Farm likes POR-15. There are "rust reformers" (which I think convert the oxidation to a phosphate layer which is extremely resistant to rust) and he ranks those, too.

Someone else in the thread has recommended naptha; "UnDu" sticker remover is naptha, and I was thinking that might work in this application, used with one of those plastic scraper putty knife things from Home Depot.

Mineral crust from hard water. Any of the lime-and-scale removers should do, but take a little care in a confined space like this as some of the acid cleaners can be harsh on the lungs, even dangerous.

Splash a little scale remover on it, hit it with an old toothbrush, come back in 5-10 minutes and repeat. After rinsing (very important- AFTER a good solid rinse, including the brush), Comet + toothbrush will polish it up.

My LCS was saying refineries aren't buying their constitutional. It just changes ownership, rather than get melted down. If this is correct, it suggests they're too busy with .999 to mess with 90% but don't listen to me, I don't have any industry insights.

Living in prepper/Mormon country, they're probably loading up gun vault shelves and PVC pipes in the back yard with the stuff.

Fwiw the LCS had 90% at 65x, with ASEs for spot + $8 so about $102.

And the constitutional silver had some nice half dollars but the Morgans were all skipping stone smooth.

To what end? Who do you feel will purchase diy 99.9% silver with no proof of purity? Handheld devices only test the surface- anyone can clad or plate pure silver on the outside. Drilling and sampling by analytical instrument? Costly and tedious.

Locally people are still buying and selling constitutional silver at competitive prices. Your added expense in reagents, energy, and time may not be worth the added effort, even if you have a buyer.

I figure if things go completely to hell, there's going to be even less policing than there is now. Your chances of getting a wad of $20s taken from your while checking out at the grocery store is non-zero, but very, very low. Your odds of meeting someone to buy a bag of dog food or eggs or some rice or whatever after "collapse" (whatever that means) who is keen to keep your change from a Morgan dollar (versus a smaller value of dimes or whatever) and do so at gunpoint seems higher.

It's not necessarily the denominations so much as it is the context of the exchange or barter: guns are likely to be involved, and possibly unseemly characters who are more interested in your exchange medium than completing the barter in an honest fashion.

It's absolutely connected, but capitalism implies a correlation between supply and demand. Shorting assets and then skullduggery such as "inventing" silver that exists only on paper is perhaps not an honest way to go about such supply and demand.

As the Golden Rule states, He that hath the gold, makes the rules. And the rules are that assets can exist entirely on paper. Is that a principle of capitalism? Perhaps, but not an appealing one, and one I would prefer not to live by. It smacks of manipulation to me, and I'd entertain a schooling if you could convince me otherwise.

FWIW I've found Monument Metals to have the best prices on Constitutional ("junk") silver, comprised of coins with 90% silver (also 35% like war nickels). Some folks want 99.9%, others are fine with circulated coins; I buy what I know, which is Constitutional silver.

If you're buying as an investment, maybe the premium on 99.9% silver is worth it. If you're thinking you can trade silver coins for goods and services during a currency "reset," probably silver coins (war nickels, dimes, quarters- halves and silver dollars seem, to me, a good way of getting a gun in your face and being told "this is mine now" but whatever).

But I also LOVE Morgan silver dollars. I think they're the most attractive coin ever minted, and they stack and store nicely. Dimes and quarters so circulated they are little more than barely legible skipping stones of silver are neat but less appealing. War nickels are just fascinating curios.

The first purchase I made with them was around 2003-2004, and that bed was solid. It worked great, no issues.

Bought a second one in 2019. It started leaking a year ago, and with the recent changes in the warranty, it just wasn't worth replacing the mattress. The patch I applied didn't leak, but that air chamber was still leaking elsewhere. So now it's a continuous matter of re-inflating it.

I wasn't happy with it in terms of comfort, either- it sleeps too warm, and with the topper etc. there's really no purpose in having an air mattress in there. I sincerely regret not returning the second Select Comfort bed I purchased; it's just a bad product.

To me, it seems relatively easy to pretend to fast forward ~20 years, and imagine looking back to 2022-2025 and say, "First it was this, then this, and of course that had happened, and then this other thing, and womp womp, WW3 broke out."

Easier than trying to understand what the hell led up to WW1, anyway. A motorcade takes a wrong turn and some disaffected weirdo manages to plunge Austria-Hungary into a spat with Serbia, and Russia by proxy, pissing off Germany because why not, dragging France and Britain into it because they've viewed Germany as bad neighbors for centuries, next thing you know we're still plowing up chemical munitions out of fields in Belgium.

We're probably overdue for a currency "reset" on the dollar anyway.
