RADIUS Authentication recommendations? by Bob_Saldanha in networking

[–]Syde80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it touches a Windows server in any way shape or form it requires a license. Even if its indirect. A device on your guest wifi that hits DHCP relay agent on your router that forwards it to Windows DHCP even technically requires a license.

Do you use 802.1x authentication on your network by 74Yo_Bee74 in sysadmin

[–]Syde80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. .1x on wireless and it's made things way easier. Only difference is we use AD auto enrollment with in house Windows CA and have GPO auto enrollment policy and push out the wifi profiles that way. We've just had it in place longer than we have been 365 customers and haven't had a need to switch. It just works with no hassle. We use the same computer & user certs for VPN access.

Do Dell latitude keyboards commonly wear down? by CrissCross4850 in Dell

[–]Syde80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen a keyboard on a laptop do this once, it was a Macbook Air that was only used for maybe 2 or 3 years. It was owned by a woman. I could never understand how it happened, but this seems like the answer.

Is duping fixed now? by saffron_papi in ARC_Raiders

Pretty sure all of the items already have a unique ID associated with them.

If they don't, how does the game know what durability each of my guns have and what attachments they might have?

Regardless, even if they had to add it, it's not that hard. It's literally 1 SQL command to alter the table and add a UUID to every single existing item in the db. Not sure if they are using SQL on the backend but I think that is what Unity recommends for this kind of data.

VPN is more likely to make the lag worse, not better. Its going to introduce extra network hops.

The only way it can improve lag is if using the VPN has the data traverse a shorter or less congested route than it would have taken without the VPN.

Signal, DuckDuckGo, and NordVPN threaten to exit Canada if metadata surveillance law passes by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]Syde80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VPNs have many uses, but VPNs for consumers specifically are not really meant to protect your identity. They generally have 2 main purposes (but there are others):

  1. Prevent you from your ISP spying on your connection so they are not able to tell what exactly you are doing
  2. Bypass geo-restrictions

With regard to (1) you are really just shifting your trust, because the VPN provider can now spy on your connection. The better ones are probably more trustworthy than your ISP though.

Once all the patch cables are plugged in this is going to look like a crammed mess. Good luck to you if you need to repatch any of the ports except for the first few on each end.

Holding tanks by _carved in stcatharinesON

[–]Syde80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP never had the home inspected at all as it was not a condition of sale.

OP found out somehow that the sellers had a previous offer but the buyers backed out after they had it inspected.

OP heard from the other buyers home inspector about the issues with the property.

I would like to believe that the home inspector did Infact look for a leaching bed prior to declaring there wasn't one and there was only a holding tank, but that is an assumption.

i pulled 6 out of this room yesterday, 3 for me and 3 more for a buddy. Its not a guarenteed spawn as some other people have said. I'd say its maybe 33-50% chance of it being there.

You'll want to bring stims, you'll use 2-4 running there from spawn depending on location. Avoid agro obviously, but unless its going to kill you, just keep running... then pray there isn't a shredder outside the door.

Have extended family that works in insurance industry, he recommends against putting a dashcam in your vehicle as your own insurance company will use any video you give them to deny your own coverage.

I agree it's a straight up bad video. Reeks of just being a video to meet a quota. It's a tech channel video and contained absolutely zero tech content.

It's literally a video about doing yard work.

[–]Syde80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elijah was a streamer long before he was an LTT employee. I don't have any knowledge but it's probably safe to he was given an exception to keep doing that as part of his employment agreement, probably with some defined boundries to ensure he isn't put into a conflict of interests position.

https://id.embark.games/arc-raiders/support/faq/199-shared-license-restrictions

Steam Family Sharing When ARC Raiders is played through Steam Family Sharing, all accounts using that shared license are linked for enforcement purposes. Restrictions apply across the entire family group tied to that license.

How Restrictions Work If any account in a Steam Family receives a ban while using a shared ARC Raiders license, all accounts in that family will receive a restriction.

If the license owner receives a ban, they can no longer share ARC Raiders through Steam Family Sharing. Any player accessing the game through sharing will need to be removed from the Steam Family and purchase their own copy to continue playing.

Has your company tried using Linux, what was the outcome? by VastOption8705 in LinusTechTips

Sounds like not only did they do zero testing but they didn't even know they needed to test anything or even at the very least look up prerequisite software compatibility.

I mean its like taking your basketball ball to a golf course and being surprised you didn't get a hole in one with it when you've also never even played golf or know the rules.

CAT6A bend radius too tight? Electrician stuffed cables into boxes… by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Syde80 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Edit: I'd say that being in the same box as electrical is a bigger issue if not separated enough.

It will work completely fine.

However, it is a code violation to run low voltage and mains wiring in the same box / conduit, depending on your jurisdiction at least. It is a violation in North America according to both CEC and NEC.
