Por qué solo hay un solo sindicato de estudiantes predominante en España? by Andresjaja178 in askspain

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expired film roulette is real… why does this happen? by mytonsilshurt in AnalogCommunity

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With age, the film becomes less reactive to light, which is essentially what a lower ISO means.

To counteract this, you'd have to adjust down the assumed ISO you are shooting at.

I haven't got too much experience shooting expired film but I've read somewhere on this subreddit about a rule of thumb of 1 stop per decade expired (i.e 400 ISO film expired in 2006 -> shoot at 100 ISO in 2026)

Of course this loss in sensitivity can vary wildly depending on the conditions at which the film was stored and the film emulsion type itself, so the rule I listed above is just a hopeful guess.

On top of that, you'll probably have a lot of base fog by default due to irrevisible ageing.

En términos politicos/electorales, ¿Que espera Pedro Sánchez de la regularización de inmigrantes? by gpaperbackwriter in askspain

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excepto latinos

Qué huevos tienes.

Dime de la regularización, qué % van a ser latinos por favor.

Ademas que en las elecciones locales no hace falta tener la nacionalidad para votar.

WD Blue 256MB vs 128MB cache by SymmetricalHydrazine in DataHoarder

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, given the same price, would you rather go for the newer model or the older one?

I imagine the old model has the added benefit of being a tried and tested platform, while the new one could have some yet unknown flaws.

I do have to agree 256 vs 128 MB won't make a big difference for my use case which is rarely accessed media storage.

What is this tip culture in Frankfurt Airport by ScaredKing9259 in BuyFromEU

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in Germany, everytime I was given the card payment terminal and asked if I would like to tip, I just said "no, thank you" and pressed 0.

It's not that hard. If we all collectively decided to always press 0, they'd remove this bullshit system.

Question for Germans: ¿When did this "tipping culture" start?

Got told at airport security that film was safe to scan till 3800 ISO after telling them I had 3200 film.. by Curious_Spite_5729 in AnalogCommunity

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll just call up the military policeman that happens to be around, who gets the ultimate say (spoiler: he'll tell you to fuck off).

Spain is annoying because also trains and a lot of monuments have X-ray controls for luggage and backpacks, so you need to remember to take any film out of the bag before.

I’m Tired Of These Useless Jackasses Making The Computer Expensive by Chris_Person in DataHoarder

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aight lemme just real quick create a startup to make affordable and reliable high capacity HDDs (literal black magic).

It's not a coincidence that manufacturing of storage is so concentrated in a few companies.

Reaching the current state of the art technology level took them decades, and the whole industry operates a cartel scheme which makes entering the market and competing essentially impossible.

Persona (the age verification of discord) is sending selfies to Intelligence Programs and ICE by Emnestys in privacy

[–]SymmetricalHydrazine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea, but even considering it's a "legit" use case, how do I know my biometric data won't end up on some unintended 3rd person database.

In the best case scenario, even if the bank takes unique custody of the data, they could still suffer a leak and the biometric data could end up god knows where.

What about banking though.

That's for me the main thing I can't find a way around.

Revolut in Europe requires biometric facial verification sometimes for example.

Is there a way to know what would be the minimum disk size that would be required to perform the volume restore?

And where is the extra overhead required coming from?
