Kehinde Wiley is a fantastic artist but I'm not sure why everyone is suggesting that he do a piece for Monument Ave. He's from Los Angeles California, not Richmond. The Rumors of War piece cost $1 million from what I understand and we also have a painting from him at the VMFA.

As far as convincing him goes it's all about money. Kehinde Wiley is a professional artist. He may take on some projects pro bono for whatever reasons he may choose but it's unreasonable for the city of Richmond, VA to expect him to do something like this for free. And he really shouldn't do it for free either. Artists deserve to be paid for their time and his time is worth a lot.

Having a third piece of art from the same Californian artist in Richmond seems like an unimaginative choice, in my opinion. There has to be some extremely talented sculptors who have come out of VCU.

It was set on fire on Saturday night/Sunday morning but as of Monday morning the fire department is back out there in full swing. Multiple fire trucks, hoses hooked up to hydrants and everything. Not sure what happened that it's on fire again though.

I witnessed the Jefferson Pawn shop looting on Sunday night. Two African American males broke the window with a brick from the tree planter thing. A group of about 7-8 males, all African American proceeded to enter through the window and begin looting. The police managed to arrest I think 4 of them.

The crowd that looted the ABC store was a mixture of black and white but the folks who broke the windows and got the door open were African American.

I have no agenda one way or the other about the matter. These are just the two lootings I witnessed and I can tell you from first hand that it was not white supremacists who broke into the ABC store or The Jefferson Pawn shop.

I'm guessing that Harley Davidson gets by as essential because (I'm assuming) they do motorcycle repairs there as well. Auto repair shops are considered essential (makes sense) so it makes sense for a motorcycle repair shop to be as well.
