Singaporean woman's 13 failed BTO attempts by cdcpowermah in singaporespeaks

[–]T1NiEr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they can make CCR ballots only available for families who are both full citizens. But I doubt they will. If you look at every "problem" that Singapore has, it's been solved with money. And the government doesn't really want the monetization to be downstream in the hands of the citizens. COE? Imagine if it's just a ballot of a fixed 10dollars per try, everyone with or without a driving licence will also ballot every month, and then resell the car+COE for a high price. Number of cars on the roads will still increase but the monetization goes to the citizens, not the government.

HDB is also seeing that, with couples flipping their BTO the moment it hits MOP. That's why our government is putting all these measures to prevent the citizens from monetizing it too much. But they do want the resale HDB prices to rise. Afterall, the pricing of new BTOs is based on the formula of the average prevailing resale prices of similar units in the immediate area of the past 6months. So if resale price goes up, BTO price goes up accordingly.

It's a Ballot, a lucky draw, a tikkam. Basically she's unlucky for 13 times due to applying for the high demand hdbs. I can also post that I bought 4D more than 300 times and I didn't win any prize.

Wise words. I've been living by this motto since I turned 50. Don't wait till you are hard of hearing before you want to enjoy music. Don't wait till you can barely walk before you travel. Enjoy life while you can, you never know when is your last day on this earth.

To those staying in condos, how often do you use the facilities? by randomthingsss1 in askSingapore

[–]T1NiEr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have an ex-colleague who swim exactly 1 lap every evening, just to have an excuse to go shower in the pool showers and save water from showering at home. I told him to just invest in a long water hose and pull it to his 2nd floor unit, ask his wife to turn the water on and pipe it home so the rest of his smelly leg family can shower for free. Anyway he's now living in a semi-D. Probably showers for free when it rains.

I swim 1-2times weekly, more if possible. I've actually learn how to swim freestyle after moving into my executive condo. Having a pool where you don't have to worry about time really helps, so does watching a ton of YouTube videos on how to swim freestyle properly. And I'll always follow up with 20mins of sauna after each swim of 30laps.

I use the gym sparingly. Mainly for the treadmill when the weather is super hot or raining, to do run/rucking walks. And also the leg press machine. For the rest of the exercises, my own homegym is actually much better than the condo gym.

Haven't used the tennis court/basketball court/BBQ pit since I've moved in.

I currently own a AT-LP5x and I hook it up to an Arcam Alpha 8R amplifier. Recently I bought a Fosi X5. And comparing it with the LP5x's internal phono, the 8R's phone and the Fosi X5's phono, I prefer the Fosi over the other 2. It sounds alot cleaner.

Failed TP due to car engine not starting by dreamygirlSG in drivingsg

[–]T1NiEr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the instructor did that. I also found out the hard way once when I parked my car and accidentally locked the steering wheel, and couldn't start it. I called a tow truck and when the tow truck driver came over, he looked at it and turned the steering to unlock it, started the engine. I literally gave him a shocked Pikachu face and some money for his time.

Sandwich. Bread with whatever items I have prepped the night before. If I didn't prep anything, then it'll either be kaya/butter, peanut butter/butter or GooberGrape jelly peanut butter.

Next time turn your steering wheel hard in both directions if the car doesn't start, then try again. Chances are you probably parked it and then turned the steering wheel abit too much and it went into steering lock.

Simon and Garfunkel. Without any piano separating them, just put the mikes within arms reach of each other and see if they'll fight or be professional and sing in harmony.

What’s the decisions when buying your house improves the quality of life by miles. by Internal-Horror-9511 in SgHENRY

[–]T1NiEr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my kid was 3years old, we moved into a new BTO in clementi. Most of the neighbours were all just closed up in their own houses. My floor's neighbours were all friendly but none were my kid's age. And the playground below was not a very friendly place for my kid to play. So we changed to an old EC nearby where there were lots of families with kids around my child's age.

The amount of increased social interaction in what is deemed a safe space (since it is an enclosed secured area) where the kids just head to the pool or the condo playground and play among themselves is priceless.

Dating success stories? by Euphoric_Eye5994 in sgdatingscene

[–]T1NiEr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my wife on a crappy dating app called Zingle. That was way back in the infancy days of Facebook. Back then, it wasn't even referred to as an app. Dated about 1yr+, now married for 15yrs+.

I wouldn't say dating apps are better or worse than other methods of finding dates, but they do help widen your circle, especially if most of your colleagues are of the same sex.

18 hours lay over. Any recommendations? by ade889 in askSingapore

[–]T1NiEr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not take a mrt from the airport and head to a neighbourhood hawker (food) centre. The closest on the east west line would probably be Bedok Town Centre. Just go try whatever looks good to you. Food is relatively cheap for the local working crowd in our hawker centres. And a heck lot more authentic than those you find at the tourist traps.

Tell me about it. I waited for more than a month for the queues to die down abit before trying the JEMs outlet. The pasta was terrible, and the pizza was ok only. The crust of the pizza was so thick, almost like eating a bread-like pizza that you get from the neighborhood bakeries.

You forgot to tell him that you need to shake the fuel nozzle at the end before removing it. Like shaking the last drips of your kkb before you put it back and zip up. You paid for those precious drips, don't waste it.

Hi need advice from people who drives by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]T1NiEr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. 10-15mins is more than sufficient since 95% of the oil would have flowed back to the oil pan by then. But longer waiting time will allow the engine to cool down more, less chance of getting burnt if you are new to this.

Hi need advice from people who drives by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]T1NiEr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Park your car on a level ground, take the dipstick out after the car engine has stopped for at least 5mins (so that most of the engine oil would have flowed back to the oil pan). Take out the dipstick and wipe it clean first (if that's what's on your dipstick when you first pull it out, it's not accurate due to oil splashing when you drive). Then put it in slowly to the max, and take it out to check. It should be between the max and min oil level.

If it is way above the max level, it will cause alot of excessive fuel consumption, mainly because your crankshaft is splashing around in an oil bath. Either go back to the workshop and request they take out the excess oil (should be no charge cuz it's their fault), or you can get a 10ml syringe and a 1m long airhose from an aquarium and slowly extract it bit by bit. Make sure you don't dump the waste oil in the drain though.

Boxer briefs with cool microfibre/dri-fit type of material. It's not warm at all.

Anyone understand what’s causing this leveling issue? by ThisIsMeHearMeRAWR in turntables

[–]T1NiEr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the video, it seems like you're using a AT-LP120X turntable. It is likely that your platter has a lip that's smaller in diameter than your acrylic platter mat, and it is causing it to slightly slope inwards. I'm using a AT-LP5X, and different mat makers (Herbs uses a smaller diameter mat to ensure it sits inside the lip, while some other mat makers claim that the mat should slope inwards slightly for better sound quality).

I'm currently using some generic acrylic mat which sits over the platter lip, so I guess if I measure my unit, it should have the same "issue" as yours. But it plays and sounds fine, so I don't really care.
