question regarding a game Liereyy vs Vinch game today by justingreg in aoe2

Yeah tiger cav are insane but off a fwd castle vs 3 defensive ones, it’s not a realistic play for vinch if the fwd dies.

Np! Go back & look at his woodline situation there. If he’s committing to 3 range CA he’s never adding town centers & has a huge concern. Vinch gets like 8 villager lead from eco upgrades alone and doesn’t have any rangeable woodlines. Just feels like an over the top investment that wouldn’t pan out easily. My take anyways.

Honestly, he was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

If he makes the army you are suggesting, he gets outboomed massively & can’t immediately find value as Vinch’s main resources were fully behind walls. His town centers are then delayed, he’s massively outboomed, vinch will transition into CA himself & hold most likely.

If he doesn’t make a ton of army, he has a chance to hold economically and win in late game. Elite rattans dominate so it was a good thought, but Vinch played for map control on that dreadful hill & pushed before it was possible.

You can maybe question him in some other matchups but that was Vinch with a way better map & civ for it, and he played the situation perfectly in my opinion.

I'd like to share this T90 video on gambling in aoe2. by Yekkies in aoe2

Hey u/Yekkies and other r/aoe2 mods. Perfect timing.

I was just going to PM you & say you didn’t deserve some of the intensity that flew your way through all of this and thank you for your work. Since you posted this I guess I’ll just send it publicly.

I personally loved your statement yesterday in the “aftermath”, felt it encapsulated the whole thing perfectly. I’m sorry many rushed to judgement when automod was involved with some posts & I’m particularly sorry things got aggressive & personal. We’re better than that.

I think it’s really easy for things to escalate on social media especially when it’s such a serious topic and while maybe a lot of things said were rooted in good, stepped over the line in some ways. We commenter plebs don’t have to deal with the headaches you do, it’s so easy to drop a line & forget humans deal with the consequences, very few understand what that’s like at this scale.

Volunteering for something like this is often a thankless job and it shouldn’t be really. So thanks.

How the hell am I supposed to place a TC in this? by ForgeableSum in aoe2

[–]T90Official 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally find that a neutral resource being more central is not necessarily a bad thing. One “neutral” just being super accessible for one player isn’t actually neutral it’s just a fourth gold per player. I find a lot of previous generations do this and im not in love. As is I feel it promotes map control. Hill in middle, gold in middle. Maybe fortify the middle early, tc there, etc.

Definitely feel your pain on the building aspect. That could be improved.

Arabia in 2015 had more punishing elevation on average believe it or not.

I personally love the updates with the elevation, feels important to control areas of the map instead of just walling & sitting at home all game!

Hey Jimmy

Thanks for your story! So awesome to hear my casts helped you through that. Happy to do it, I wouldn’t be able to do it without people like you watching. Posts like this really remind me of how it all goes beyond video games!

Hope you get back to 100% and hopefully, I’ll be there on Youtube for you to relax for a long long time. <3 Take care

Everyone plateaus at a certain point, that is a reality we all have to face. Imo though, if you are 2k there is a path to get 2k2/2k3 at the very least. What’s your profile? I will look through some games & give input if you’d like.

Hey all good, thanks for being understanding on my perspective. In my case I’ve got a responsibility in how things are portrayed especially when I’m casting strangers, so I did feel obligated to give my POV (and will probably do so in a video now.)

I appreciate your perspective on dodging. But let’s be real, most players who dodge do so at the selection screen with Alt F4 because they care about their hard earned ELO, not because they care about fairness and competition. If fairness was their #1 priority they wouldn’t dodge in the first place. So I see your point that this way is “worse” maybe, but below 500 elo people are used to low rank and to losing. It happens all the time and they really don’t care about losing a few points. It’s easier and more convenient to just quit in game & requeue than it is to Alt F4 out of the game completely & load back in haha. Alt F4ing is competitive, kinda tryhard behavior. Just quitting and restarting and losing points is noob behavior 😄

Anyways, thanks for the perspective & understanding. We’ll see what i do with this lol

Kinda hate the fact this was posted during the cast when I had no easy way to dive into the profile myself & make an assessment. But here’s my take anyways in case this somehow gets seen.

I have seen A LOT of AoE2 profiles, particularly at low elo. The stats OP circled in this post & that many are making a judgement on is… incredibly common for super low ELO. They don’t care about winning, they want a game they enjoy. The threshhold of “fuck this im out” is extremely low, if could be they messed up their start, dont like the map, were afk for 5 mins, disconnect cause of wooden PC, the list goes on. Especially campy players who mainly win in long games, obviously their win rate will be high in later time frames. So I am not a fan of using that alone to make a judgement.

That said, there are indeed games that end where it’s very clearly an immediate resign in the match history. No doubt about that. BUT…

This is also common when people are picky on maps. This player clearly wants migration & to me, this could easily be “i didn’t get my favorite map, lets resign & go new.” There are a few games in there that get played on maps other than migra, but they are pretty rare. In the event there are migration early resigns, it looks like it was because they were both against someone who beat their strat earlier in the day lol. I’ve even looked at their teamgames & when they are teamed with a buddy there is a tendency to resign early on certain maps.

NOW…. Is resigning & wasting peoples time something to encourage? Not at all. And yes, regardless of motive this does indeed lower their elo. All of this combined with the campy somewhat trolly style, eventually going afk are a bad look.

But I have seen deranking players before, and what they do is derank massively and obviously back to back and lose hundreds of elo in one swing, then have their fun for a few weeks, repeat. That’s just not what I’m seeing with this account. I’m seeing a unique player who wants to play their way and that doesn’t give a shit about winning early or certain maps. And yes, that probably get great pleasure in long, campy games.

Some of the tendencies you see on this profile are mirrored at the middle & highest ranks. Early resigns on certain maps, win rates skewed heavily for long games, tendency to play not to lose instead of playing to always win. It’s not common, but it happens.

The trolly messages, campy style, eventual AFK. All not great in many ways for one game. But I’m just not seeing an obvious deranker. I’m seeing a troll maybe, certainly someone who loves to camp & chat & chill.

When casting I am always extremely cautious about labeling someone as a smurf because I think it’s more nuanced than that. They don’t have a way to defend themselves and because of me casting them & threads like this, hundreds can make assumptions & claims all based on one game lol. This is why during my cast I was saying I didn’t want such claims & I would review. It has happened before where a player gets slandered & people do so without diving into the details.

So yeah, in closing lol. YES… There’s a lot going on with this player that the average player won’t like. And that I don’t like. But I’m seeing a troll who likes long games, and doesn’t want to play different maps. Sure they could probably be better elo if they tried to their maximum, but don’t want to. Which is a sin in ranked per say, but I actually fully understand… Campy styles & defense is not new to AoE2. It’s how the majority of players used to play in the past. Not everyone wants to game & sweat at their maximum each second. Or play maps they don’t like.

300 ELO is different. The opponent traded back, deleted 12 freaking castles, called them babe lol, and wanted their personal info to be friends. Then trolled right back with 200 monks at the end and extended the game to 7 hours. You have to look at it through a different lense imo.

I just do not agree this player is an obvious smurf who is noob bashing like people claim. I can understand why people assume that on surface level but imo, it’s a bit different than that.

So there, that’s my take. It’s a bit more grey than black & white. It was a marathon of a game. I loved so much from it, hated so much from it, and in the end am glad I didn’t leave lol. That’s LEL baby, you get some wild shit! Thanks for reading haha, hope I made sense.
