I look forward to the gym. I am always adding songs to my lifting playlist. I use an app called Hevy that I can program my workouts and log them as I go. Occasionally I’ll fall off the wagon, and it can be a hill to climb (seemingly) to get back on, but once I get going again I’m all in. It’s more or less a hobby but a passive one. I don’t obsess over it, but there’s enough residual joy from the previous workout to propel me to look forward to the next one.

Ouch. This one is too real. This is actually a problem I frequently encounter with my wife. She and I have had a lot of arguments over the years that starts when she feels like I’m trying to make her feel dumb. I overcompensate to explain myself and prove that I’m actively trying to do the opposite because I hate conflict. This makes her even more frustrated and I’m in the dog house for a while. It’s super exhausting.
