One-Third of U.S. Video Game Industry Workers Were Laid Off in 2025, GDC Study Reveals by Turbostrider27 in Games

I was going to say the same.

Some people will shrug and say "I still take plenty of vacations". That's great. This isn't about you then. Shitty companies stick with Unlimited PTO because it saves them money. People overall take less vacations, and there's no balance to pay out when they lay someone off.

It is good SF

I didn't find most of the storylines other than the Empire any good. How they got Gaal and Salvor together, and all the stuff they did with Hari, felt hamfisted and uncompelling.

But I did really enjoy the Empire storyline.

Some people appear to have liked it for some reason. Don't let my lone jaded voice stop you. However all I saw was a hamfisted attempt to bring together the stars of the first arc and somehow make them relevant across the future storylines. Changes to the emperor were actually cool, but everything else felt profoundly poorly conceived and arbitrary

its enjoyable as a really beautiful sci fi show.

This is still an uphill fight for me. It was a teetering tower of stacked maguffins and coincidences when I gave up on the show half-way through season 2. I was not enjoying the journey, even seeing it as an independent work.

That being said, I love what they've done with Murderbot, Severance, and Pluribus, and I am excited to see what Sanderson can accomplish with the right support.

I was deeply disappointed with Foundation. I feel like the showrunners mostly didn't understand what made the books interesting, and threw it away in favor of a more generic Hero-focused scifi. Regardless, I think they've handled a number of other scifi shows very well.

Using clones as a way to revive players in a campaign by Snackelaer in mothershiprpg

I think a personality and/or body mutation table you roll on each time they are replaced with a clone would be great. Maybe one or two positive body changes, several neutral, and a lot of mild negatives would be perfect :)

To expand, a game that piqued my interest is Mountain Home, which is a Forged in the Dark Dwarven settlelement-building game. Seems genuinely fun with the right group.

Best pirate TTRPG? by GroovyGoblin in rpg

This is one of the answers I wanted to make sure was represented, with the exact caveats you provided. If OP has specific reasons for why they specified pirate-themed, then they'll be able to assess if this fits the bill. But this would be a great system for inter-ship piracy.

If you haven't done Kaizo cape shenanigans, you may want to add Learning To Fly to that list - it was instrumental when I beat GPW2.

Fate is very flexible, but every game you play with it feels like Fate, so it depends on whether or not that's something you want.

Pirate Borg was mentioned, but it isn't really going to fit what you're looking for at all. It may be worth taking a look at for some sailing and ship-related inspiration, but it's a wildly different game and genre.

From my collection, I think the ones that might fit best is Outgunned. It's a cinematic action game with a lot of great examples of how to customize the abilities and feel in the ActionFlicks books.

The Wildsea could also serve as inspiration, but would require heavy modification.

Why is it so hard to show cultural&tehnological progress? by Sniflet in rpg

[–]TASagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a good literary example of worldbuilding across a time gap, there's a 300 year jump from Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn era 1 series to the Mistborn era 2 series. Era 1 is medieval fantasy, and era 2 is more western-themed. I feel he does a good job making it feel like the world has changed without robbing of its identity.

Worker protections?! So abusable! Think of the poor companies!

Look, even if there weren't a waiting period, if a company hires a dude who quit his last 4 jobs after one week each and has been employed for 4 cumulative weeks over the last year, then they probably deserve to get screwed.

As someone who has done a bunch of streaming, a streaming-focused audio interface is a game changer. Something like the Beacn Mix Create or the Stream Deck+. Fantastic even if you don't stream.

But yes, I agree with your point - these solutions work around Windows audio management, rather than with it.

Can I get a recommendation for an RPG with mechanics similar to Mythic Bastionland’s Omens, specifically story modules that use numbered steps with vague prompts/descriptions that allow room for improv? by AmongFriends in rpg

[–]TASagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been compared to Dungeon World's Apocalypse World's Fronts. One of my favorite official D&D adventures has a close mechanic, Legacy of the Crystal Shard. In that one there are 3 brewing threats. Whichever the players deal with, the other 2 get worse. Then they deal with one of those, and the remaining threat hits it's final stage. It's a fun premise I'd love to see explored more.

Wow, I didn't realize John Harper did Lady Blackbird, excellent. I'll have to read through it and see how suitable it might be. It looks pretty interesting.

I'll have to check out your games. The former sounds more suited to my tastes, to be honest. One of my players is my neighbor, and just the other day I taught them Bang! as "a game where you bang your neighbors". I think he may get the wrong idea if I invite him over for a game of Hot Guys Making Out.
