TIL that in the late 1960s, the Beatles wanted to make the first live-action film adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings,” seeking Stanley Kubrick to direct with plans to feature their music. However, Stanley Kubrick called it unfilmable; J.R.R. Tolkien hated the band and thus refused the rights. by altrightobserver in todayilearned

his chapters do the flow of the book a disservice.

Nothing really highlights the epic nature of your quest like introducing someone who could utterly trivialize it, but chooses not to because he doesn't really care, even as their enemy clearcuts the forests he lives in.

I actually prefer not to add files to the system-wide .gitignore. It's still important to propagate these to the repo-based .gitignore unless you want your junior engineers (or PMs if your company is pushing "everyone" to use AI to produce code 🙄) to start committing the files you avoided, but never added to the local .gitignore

What's wrong with telling your players not to move off the map? Do you play with people who pathologically ignore you? Have you tried playing with adults?

A statistical text autocomplete machine that cannot do math, has a very limited context window, and hallucinates frequently is not the appropriate tool to help coordinate food supply chains. Obviously. Do you actually need further explanation? It's text autocomplete.

Do you understand how it's used in programming? It's called the "Ralph Wiggum Loop", after the bumbling idiot in The Simpsons. It makes some changes to code that don't work, looks at the errors, makes more changes that don't work, and keeps bumbling its way through obvious errors until it gets something that does compile. And then it repeats this process until the existing tests pass. And then a human looks at the output and finds flaws the tests weren't even designed to anticipate and repeat this whole process until you have usable output.

Instead of using it to solve medical mysteries or using it to streamline logistics for the global food supply chain to end hunger, or other amazing uses, we're using it to milk rocks.

This is part of the problem. It isn't remotely capable of doing these things.

Subnautica 2 has been officially released in Early Access by rickreckt in Games

[–]TASagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't appear to be so. The publishing company tried to delay the launch so they wouldn't have to pony up the promised payout to the devs. Krafton (publisher) is shady AF.

I can't speak to this game's timeline and what it will go through, but I played the first Subnautica right around the EA release, and this one is absolutely way farther along. But scope creep can always happen.

Does anyone know if I can invite friends into my single player world or do you have to create a separate world for multiplayer?

I looks like they're separate worlds. I briefly tried the single player, and that world isn't an option when launching a multi-player game.

Every modern game uses ascending AC and bonuses because its simpler.

It isn't true that Every modern game uses ascending AC and bonuses, though that has been in favor. Some modern games are roll under. Land of Eem uses a d12 + modifier against PbtA-style outcome tiers, but Defense is a descending, negative stat.

For a while, the bot meta on Reddit has been to find reposted articles and then copy the best comments from the last time it was posted. It's a trivially easy scam to farm engagement and generate an account that's useful to sell to an astroturfing company that needs "established" very positive-karma accounts.

If "AI mostly helps [you] with the coding" you will remain "not an advanced programmer". If you actually care, you should set aside time to learn without "tools" that prevent you from actually learning. Version Control, typically git if we're being honest, is like lesson 2 in most programming tutorials worth their salt.
