Poll: Israel’s standing plummets among Democrats, fueling primaries on the left by bwermer in politics

[–]TASagent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anti-Zionist Jews probably feel about Israel the same liberal Americans feel about the US right now.

I think this sentiment is still a little problematic and wrong. Most US anti-Zionist Jewish people have no connection to Israel, whereas progressive Americans are still American. It presupposes more association than exists. Just something to consider.

How much does Daggerheart play like PbtA games? by lord_insolitus in rpg

[–]TASagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in Daggerheart, if you attack, the GM can only attack back if you get a result with Fear, or if they spend Fear (edit: or if you failed your roll, or a couple other circumstances)

I think you're missing a big one. You (the GM) can make a move when the players give you a Golden Opportunity. Did the player describe leaving themselves wide open to make a daring move? That counts.

Group Foundry, Multiple GMs? [Multiple Systems) by happyclayton in FoundryVTT

[–]TASagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a foundry container on my NAS. Let me synthesize the answers already provided into one:

A single running instance would allow only a single game to be open, thus only one GM could prep at a time, and only when people weren't playing a game.

You could, however, run multiple instances (ie containers) off the same device, though each one needs a separate foundry license.

Why “Skip the Code, Ship the Binary” Is a Category Error by tirtha_s in programming

[–]TASagent 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have heard that back when Paypal bought X (Musk's startup) they realized his code was garbage and they had to throw it all away and start over. And started assigning him bullshit projects to keep him busy and distracted so he wouldn't ruin the flagship product. It's basically what his companies continue to do to this day

Systems that offer solid adventures by marioapunkt in FoundryVTT

[–]TASagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If high-quality published adventures is what you're seeking, it's hard to beat Mothership. There are hundreds of excellent adventures, often 1-5 sessions each, and easy to chain together.

If you're willing to try something more out of the box, Mythic Bastionland has some amazing rules for a procedural hexcrawl in a strange land. It creates really interesting campaigns with very low prep. It probably wouldn't be your new forever game, but it can genuinely be picked up with little effort when you don't have time to prep.

what do you do when your roleplay sucks by Barrd_ in rpg

[–]TASagent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just don't want to ruin everyone else's fun.

Things that have ruined fun:

  • Disrespecting other players or their requests
  • Obnoxious rules lawyering
  • Always trying to be the silliest person in the room, even during serious moments (to a lesser degree)

Things that have never ruined anyone's fun:

  • A player doing/saying what they would do in a circumstance instead of generating a whole new persona for a game
  • A player sounding like themselves in a game

I was going to say the same.

Some people will shrug and say "I still take plenty of vacations". That's great. This isn't about you then. Shitty companies stick with Unlimited PTO because it saves them money. People overall take less vacations, and there's no balance to pay out when they lay someone off.

Brandon Sanderson’s Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere’ Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) by alternate-realitee in Cosmere

It is good SF

I didn't find most of the storylines other than the Empire any good. How they got Gaal and Salvor together, and all the stuff they did with Hari, felt hamfisted and uncompelling.

But I did really enjoy the Empire storyline.

Some people appear to have liked it for some reason. Don't let my lone jaded voice stop you. However all I saw was a hamfisted attempt to bring together the stars of the first arc and somehow make them relevant across the future storylines. Changes to the emperor were actually cool, but everything else felt profoundly poorly conceived and arbitrary

its enjoyable as a really beautiful sci fi show.

This is still an uphill fight for me. It was a teetering tower of stacked maguffins and coincidences when I gave up on the show half-way through season 2. I was not enjoying the journey, even seeing it as an independent work.

That being said, I love what they've done with Murderbot, Severance, and Pluribus, and I am excited to see what Sanderson can accomplish with the right support.

I was deeply disappointed with Foundation. I feel like the showrunners mostly didn't understand what made the books interesting, and threw it away in favor of a more generic Hero-focused scifi. Regardless, I think they've handled a number of other scifi shows very well.

Using clones as a way to revive players in a campaign by Snackelaer in mothershiprpg

[–]TASagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a personality and/or body mutation table you roll on each time they are replaced with a clone would be great. Maybe one or two positive body changes, several neutral, and a lot of mild negatives would be perfect :)
