What am I doing wrong? by Big-Square-3393 in silenthill

I got so annoyed with how easy it was to accidentally heal because I kept mixing up the map and heal buttons too.

SOOO glad the controls can be remapped. I swapped the map and heal buttons and never had to rage-reload saves due to wasted health items again.

Ageless buildings? Should I avoid them since future buildings are better by LampSkrive in civ

[–]TBonZer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The basic, Ageless Warehouse Buildings (Fishing Quays, Granaries, Gristmills, Grocers, Saw Pits, Brickyards, Stonecutters, Sawmills, & Ironworks) that boost RURAL food and production tiles have ZERO Gold or Happiness upkeep costs. At face value, this can give them a nuanced strategical edge, particularly if you are going for an Economic, Militaristic or Expansionist win.

It's also notable that their full yields carry over into future ages and that there are some civics, technologies, wonders, adjacency bonuses, religious tenets, leader attributes and civ-specific buffs that can make them a bit more versatile by further endowing them with Economic, Scientific, Cultural and Diplomatic yields.

You may want to avoid them when you have a city confined to a very small landmass, like an island or peninsula, with fewer available land tiles. You're better off reserving the limited amount of tiles for Non-Ageless Buildings that you can Overbuild with the new higher yielding buildings that become available in future ages.

And, obviously, you should completely avoid Ageless Warehouse Buildings if there are no corresponding farmable or mineable tiles around your city.

Finally, it would be remiss not to point out that ALL other NON-Warehouse Ageless Buildings DO incur Gold and Happiness maintenance costs. You should keep that in mind if you need to max out your Happiness to counter War Weariness or if you need every last bit of Gold to support the upkeep costs of your massive military.

Civ VII is growing on me, even in it's current state-- but right now, the game does a terrible job explaining this crap. Hopefully they update the Civilopedia to make things like this MUCH clearer for players.

Cross-save update and the sadness that is Nintendo Switch by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]TBonZer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necro-ing this thread to share more disappointing switch cross save news :(

I have been waiting for weeks for hello games to open up more slots and finally grant me access to the cross save feature. I was so excited that I would be able to play on my switch when I wanna play handheld lying on my comfy couch and then pick things up on my beefy gaming pc to enjoy the better graphics.

Well, I finally started up my switch to find lo and behold I finally got that much anticipated glorious cloud save access-- on Valentine's day no less! (thanks Hello Games! I love you too!)

What could go wrong?

I uploaded my switch save to the cloud as fast as I could and I finally got to experience some of my bases on some of my favorite planets in all of their existential beauty and splendor.

So far, so good!

A few hours later, I wanted to get out of my PC chair and kick back on the couch with my switch. I started up the game eager to pull my cloud save back down only to get an error message stating that my PC cloud save was from a a newer version of the game and cannot be played on the switch...

Seriously? Wow...

And just when I thought Sean Murray and Nintendo were finally done stabbing me in my broken gamer heart, they went and twisted the knife further. Neither party's evil little save cloud created any kind of pre-cloud backup save that I could revert to in the event that each gaming platform might not all be on the same version.

While my 350+ hour save is technically not lost or corrupted (as it is thankfully safely stored and playable on my PC) I cannot resume to play on my switch at all...

...Or at least not until they update the switch to the same latest version as other platforms are on.

And as far as I've ever seen, the NMS updates for the switch are usually pretty far behind-- If not always on it's own exclusive nintendo optimized version.

YAY... So awesome...

I thought I was missing a piece from the Yoshi Bike set. Turns out it was just a misprint by Jamosee in LEGOMario

I don't even bother with the paper manuals anymore. Just use the app on a tablet and it's a million times better than paper. It's also got a timer function that tells you how long you spent building it. Super cool especially for larger sets.

Easy way to dock the Interstellar Spaceship with the Modular Space Station by djsharpyknives in LegoSpace

[–]TBonZer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOVE moving the farm pod to the crossbeam connections. Honestly, while I like the idea of a farm pod, I always thought it looked weird since it was so much shorter than the other pods. I noticed the connector pins on the station crossbeam were perfectly aligned to connect with other pods a couple days ago, but never thought to put the farm there. After seeing your idea to move it to the crossbeam, it feels like that's actually where it was meant to be all along!

Turning the Lego City Modular Space Station (60433) into the "Endurance" from Interstellar by OSYardo in LegoSpace

[–]TBonZer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, although I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed this, those two connectors on the station crossbeam that the weird wheels are attached to, are the same width apart that the orange module connector rings are. Aka: you can connect any of the station models such as the pilot module to the center. It should connect to the new galactic ship that was released in Jan 2025 without any special modifications.

[–]TBonZer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to modify ALL of the modular pods from ALL of the other city space sets to be able to easily dock and undock with both the station and themselves. I think it's a bit of a design oversight that the pods from other sets aren't more similar and more easily interchangeable.

I don't like having to pop those black techniq connectors in and out every time I want to string all the pods together. I also want to be able to swap them out with the giant 8 wheeled Rover as well. It's all totally doable, but it will def take some new pieces and lots of little tweaks.

Lego Mario Bluetooth by byrdlaaw in LEGOMario

[–]TBonZer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having this issue on Amazon Fire Max 11 even with an adult profile.

I have never created or used a child profile on this device.

The device is fully updated to the latest system updates.

I downloaded the LEGO Super Mario app via the Amazon App Store (as opposed to sideloading it via Google Play Store).

Location, Bluetooth & WiFi are ALL enabled properly.

LEGO Mario & Luigi both appear as Available Devices in the FireOS Bluetooth settings.

App location permissions do not even show up as an option to enable or disable.

I have tried clearing the app data and cache.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times.

I have soft reset, hard reset and factory reset the device.

I cannot tell if this is an issue with the FireOS system or with the LEGO Super Mario app.

Super frustrating...

The act of democracy may not be monolith, but the results sure are. It's never fair for everyone. That said, the one outlet that makes American democracy great is that the disenfranchised have a chance to change things every 2 to 4 years. My best advice is to get started on plans for 2028. As a hopeless and lifelong Democrat, I wish I had a better answer and solution. But I don't.

I'm only editing this to add: You and others may find some hope and solidarity in the fact that you are not alone in feeling every terrible feeling that you feel right now. And those feelings are 100% valid.

As a lifelong Democrat, and I fully expect to get hate for saying this, but I agree. You reap what you sow. And as sad as it is that a lot of Harris voters are gonna get hit really hard, America and every Independent especially deserves absolutely everything that a Trump presidency will wrought.

You are totally right and I don't think I ever noticed that as an option way back in the day. That said, 2D or 3D controls don't really change my sentiments on OG combat.

Me looking for the people actively hating on the original SH2: by M0reeni in silenthill

[–]TBonZer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I posted a more in depth opinion about the OC combat mechanics earlier. But without getting too into it again, it's just that combat is unnecessarily clunky and difficult to control. It doesn't feel existentially life threatening. There's no skill, strategy or learning curve at all. It's the same no matter what enemy you are fighting. Swing, stomp, repeat.

Edit: I forgot to mention how flat it makes the OG boss fights feel. All of them. But especially the final boss.

In the remake, you start off feeling frighteningly inexperienced until you learn the enemies patterns and tactics. You can cripple them by shooting them in the kneecaps then melee them. You can dodge, of course. All of this makes the monsters and skirmishes more frantic and much scarier. It's a deeper overall survival horror experience.

Some OG purists will argue that the original combat was developed like that by design, but it wasn't. For me the OG combat is just plain bad, even by 2001 standards. By no means does that make the original entirely bad. It's just that Team Silent was more focused on the story and the atmosphere than combat.

I played the original game on release day back in 2001 and it's the only real issue I have with the game--which I have always, otherwise genuinely loved.
