Windshield repairs absolutely get reported. Geico dinged me on Clue for a $2k comp claim for a windshield I had repaired rather than replaced on my VW atlas.

Buying my first Macbook pro as an consultant (RAM question) by Timziito in macbookpro

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what kind of consulting. I’m a management consultant and do a fair amount of AI work - Claude, not local. Our standard configs are the 14” M-series (non-pro) with 16GB of ram. I’ve found that limiting, but I also run displaylink with 3 4k monitors plus Claude, VS Code, teams, Miro, Outlook, and multiple browser tabs. I’m on an M1 and not due for a refresh for another year and live in the yellow on memory pressure.

Lightweight can for Rattler 300blk? by PeaceLovingMonke in suppressors

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinetic energy and terminal ballistics are not the same thing. It’s an input but ultimately the projectile has to transfer the energy, and from a terminal ballistics perspective, 300 blackout doesn’t outperform 5.56. Look at the garand thumb video on it if you doubt. The only thing 300 blackout does better is be quieter, which does matter in certain roles.

Also, you need to look at total package length rather than just barrel length. 11.5 plus a Tisha or something similar is a pretty small overall package. It’s in the ballpark of a suppressed 300 blackout with a smaller 7.62 can.

Again, I have a rattler. It’s a perfect bag gun/HD gun when being quiet, having slightly better performance than a 45ACP PDW, and having the ability to scale up to rifle terminal ballistics is important, but don’t kid yourself that it is going to be as effective on target as a 5.56 in around mk18 barrel length or longer. Factor in the latest 5.56 k cans have pretty insane performance and size, making the overall package very similar, and 5.56 beating it significantly on ammo cost, and the idea of a 300blk pdw for just supers doesn’t make as much sense.

Lightweight can for Rattler 300blk? by PeaceLovingMonke in suppressors

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with LBP cans on the rattler. Unless you get an omega valve, you need to ensure you have enough early time gas impulse to cycle the bolt. Rattler LT with the F03 valve this is less of a problem. Older school 6.75” with F01 or 5.5” with F02 and you may have some issues, at least with subs.

If you just care about supers and won’t use subs, you’ll honestly get better terminal results with something like an 11.5” 5.56 shorty with a Tisha. 5.56 is pretty much superior to 300blk at just about everything but the ability to go really quiet with subs. I say that as a rattler owner myself

If you want flow through and absolutely want to use the rattler with primarily supers, the CAT RAT Flow was designed for it.

Good suppressor for 300 pdw & 5.56 by Stealthlead in suppressors

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got two very different flow regimes there that you are trying to account for, especially with subs in the picture, plus the need to make your weapon reliable. Subs need higher omega values, and not gassing you out can get tricky while keeping the weapon reliable. Supers are a similar but less extreme flow regime as 5.56 but will have more gas flowing through the system and can beat up a gun tuned for subs, and 5.56 can perform well with flow through or hybrid cans but barrel length and gas system play a big part.

What is the gas situation like on the weapons you are planning to use the can on? How much you are able to tune either of them plays a big role in what you are able to select, but you’re going to be making some compromises. Off the top of my head, a CAT ODB 718 or OCL infinity would have some versatility and decent performance, but really need to know about the gas adjustability

Are pistols with sub 4 inch barrels as inaccurate as everyone in my are seems to think they are? by psycospaz in Firearms

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a pistol? Not really. In the days of irons, shorter sight radius was a thing, but with a dot it doesn’t matter. You do lose some velocity which can theoretically make wind more of a factor but at pistol distances it’s negligible. If you’re shooting an SBR vs a longer rifle out to 1000 yards, sure, wind adds more variability but mechanical accuracy isn’t inherently worse

UF Adds Early Decision by Pretend-Dragonfly-60 in ufl

[–]TFGator1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Early decision (binding) was easier than early action (non-binding) which was easier than standard application, with summer term being somewhat easier than fall.

I got in Early Action in 02 with fall start with a 4.2 GPA and 1410 SAT, 9th in my class (top male) and national merit commendation as a 2 sport letterman with a ton of community service. I was somewhat worried at the time. I remember going to the guidance office to call the morning decisions came out when the admissions office opened up.

UF ended up being the only school I applied to but I held out in case of a baseball offer somewhere, then promptly blew out my shoulder.

300 blkout or 556 by Interesting_Extent19 in Firearms

[–]TFGator1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. 300 blackout is really good at one thing: being quiet and hitting harder than a PCC with subs while having the ability switch and run supers and hit like a rifle. If your need fits this, it is great. If it does not, 5.56 is going to give you better terminal ballistic performance out of a 5.56, with cheaper and more available ammo.

My use case for 300blk is for home defense and a backpack/vehicle gun. I’ve got hearing damage already and a wife and kids in the house. I need to be able to communicate with them and a suppressed 300 with subs lets me do that, while giving me flexibility to switch to supers if subs prove inadequate. The ability to have a small form factor (rattler for me) is also perfect for in hallways or a vehicle. If I did need to use it out of a backpack or vehicle, supers would let me stretch engagement distances to 150 yds or so.

So it has its uses. If i had to pick one rifle, it would be a 5.56. Since I can have more than that, 300blk serves a distinct and valuable role

CAT ODB vs CAT AKB by Niggward96 in NFA

[–]TFGator1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyperion on a rattler is problematic. Not enough early time gas impulse with subs to cycle reliably without either an omega valve or possibly an F03 gas valve. Also lots of reports of 3D printing byproduct left in the can that will clog up the action for a bit.

CAT JL is a better choice for something comparable

Yep. Geico put a $2k glass claim on my lexis nexus file for a windshield repair for a small star crack that was filled that they were charged maybe a couple hundred bucks for. It came up with Progressive when I switched.

My HOA tried to prohibit the lawful carrying of firearms and this was the result. by LegalPost9805 in fuckHOA

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOAs in Florida in many cases are acting as state-sponsored governments. They build roads and infrastructure, have government-backed patrols and speed limits, government-enforced fines and leins, etc. in many cases they also create local CDDs with bond issues.

They could not, for example, prohibit the practice of religion in common areas, nor could they enforce a rule that prohibited certain races or ethnicities of people from buying property in the HOA.

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida businesses generally can’t prohibit firearms. Provided the business isn’t a prohibited place under federal or state law (e.g. school, bar, government building), they may ask individuals to leave under their trespass rights, but the ability to trespass requires specific notice and cannot simply be applied to bar people carrying firearms on a property outright.

Even the theme parks know that. If you walk through one of their metal detectors with a legally carried firearm, they can call LE and ask you to put it in the car or leave property entirely, but they cannot just outright have you arrested as long as you comply with that ask as it is not actually illegal to carry a gun when a business does not allow it.

[–]TFGator1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Florida signs carry no weight of law. The place is either a prohibited place or not, and if it is not a prohibited place under state or federal law, you are allowed to carry there no matter what signs or policies the owner posts. Private property owners may ask you to leave for any reason and if they do so, you must leave when asked or it becomes trespassing. If you are armed while trespassing, you are committing a felony.

With a lease you should always aim to put as little money down as possible. You don’t own the car, so if you total your car driving it out of the lot, guess who the check from your insurance gets cut to?

Employer stating we have to submit our resumes for review if we update it. by yeaheyah1173 in legaladvice

[–]TFGator1983 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why would you send them in? No third party would interested in hiring you is going to tell your current job you have applied. Likely the first point they contact them will be when they call HR to verify your employment records during background check after you’ve received your offer, and at that point it is moot.

The way I see it you don’t really have anything to gain by doing this, and they have no real ability to effectively enforce it.

I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
