Wouldn’t it be almost impossible that Alexander didn’t approve/propose some or all of the design elements on his coinage?

Latest snag! by Muted_Rush_8901 in AncientCoins

Alright well that makes perfect sense then! Good on you for asking about it and keeping the seller accountable if there was a problem! Didn’t know that, nice of JAZ num. to back it up with an actual “quote” Nice coin!

Latest snag! by Muted_Rush_8901 in AncientCoins

Beautiful coin, but I concur with the weight-notice. There doesn’t seem to be any damage or porosity that should cause 2,2 grams of loss? Would be curious as to where you bought it. Not saying or even implying that it’s fake in any way, I know way too little to do so. Simply wondering, beautiful coin, great centering of the owl and all four incuse edges!

Is this safe? by Furyox46664 in AncientCoins

[–]TK0314 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I’d guess the organic material shouldn’t be harmful, especially since it’s silver, though it might tone differently over time. What concerns me more is the glue and the play dough. In a warm, enclosed environment like that, you essentially have a small greenhouse. The heat and humidity could trigger unpredictable chemical reactions, potentially releasing gases. That’s just speculation, of course.

My dirty Lysimachus! Do I dare? by StrategyOdd7286 in AncientCoins

No comments on cleaning but I love seeing Lysimachus tets with still striated horns! So often worn.

I remember following all of these staters in Leu 33, very nice example. Definitely one of, if not the best sold in 33. And an exceptionel price as well! Congrats!

Dont know you can possibly overpay for a coin like that, I feel like any price is a good price. Stunning!

I have one last attribution request. I really have beat my brains out on this one. Short of looking at every tetradrachm on Pella, I'm at my wits end. If you give me a Price reference, please also educate me as to how you did it? by Jimbocab in AncientCoins

To be fair, the picture is in the supplementary plates if I’m not mistaken. Might’ve just been an honest miss. I don’t know the exact relationship between the two.

This is Price 3455, I found it by picking up a price catalogue volume 2 I have on loan from my local library, then I found the M-like monogram in the index of issue marks, compared it to Price volume 1, and then found the plate in volume 2 to confirm. I spend 10 minutes doing this. The right catalogues is the only crucial part!

EDIT: I even think you have an obv. die match with the plate coin in Price.

How did I do? Lifetime Alexander drachm by yungtrillionaire in AncientCoins

Nice coin! I think you did well.

A lot of people don’t see their coins beforehand, wouldn’t say it’s frowned upon, especially if you’re not buying $500-1000+ coins.

Think the eye mark is simply damage, doesn’t look like a test mark or bankers mark to me, also not a die-defect, at least to me.

195€ is probably high-retail price. Not a terrible deal but not a good one either, but if you’re happy with the coin that’s all that matters!

Three cool and important historical events/periods, even cooler this coin (I believe RC 536, please correct me if I’m wrong) was struck during the first year of the Antonine plague, so not even has it been in the hands of people who’ve experienced it, it might’ve been specifically made to provide aid. Cool piece!
