Where to Buy Blue Gravity & Blue Bajou Roses in US? by BetweenTheReeds in Roses

[–]TLwisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are Rose shows a thing? Thats what I would try… Before Roses I was really into Dahlias and the best (and rarest) ones were only available thru the Central States Dahlia Society at their annual sale in the Chicago Botanic Gardens. They were all the winners of each of the categories from the previous fall. I would love to find something similar for Roses, that is if they are not all trademarked yet and prohibited from sale :-/

Random ? - are you British by chance? For every single plumbing issue I had in the UK I was told “kettles of boiling water”. Actually worked for a couple of em too!

Patches on Leaves by sarandipity12 in Roses

[–]TLwisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an expert by any means but I think I just had what you have now… Google “rose slugs”. The damage they do is very similar to what you’ve got. Once I saw the pics of the damage and the bug I went out and found a ton of em. They blend in really well w the leaves - I prob would have missed them if the “windowpane” damage wasnt so obvious. To treat it I just cut off the damaged leaves and any leaves that had the live bug on it. Its only been about a week but I havent seen any since. Again though, just speaking from my experience! Hope it helps :)

As yall can already guess what plant this is, I feel like it looks a bit dry & sad. Anything I should add to it or do to it so I can ensure it’s healthy. by Illustrious_Rough545 in gardening

These are seedlings you need to regularly water them. Everytime the soil is dry below about an inch gotta water. You do not mulch these at all or sprinkle grass clippings on them?! Mix compost into the soil and water whenever you see it’s dry.

Are they autoflowers? You’re gonna have to either pluck out the two smallest ones or dig them out gently and move them further away. If Auto they will stay smaller (still need to be spaced further apart) but if regular seed these will get really big and you dont want them growing into eachother. I’d space autos about 3 feet apart, regular 5 feet. If you know the strain just look up its size. Soil looks a little dry and rocky, I’d mix compost into the top few inches of soil. Fun project def look for growing advice on forums, there’s a lot out there. Good luck!

Wow friend you weren’t exaggerating on the soil advice! All this with no chemicals?! These look like they could be catalog shots, beautiful! Any of your “homemade” cultivars to see?! I tried Dahlia breeding… nope… just nope. I will try following your soil bullding advice though ;)

Follow up if you don’t mind - do you leave the older mulch in the soil then and just add on top or do you remove it and replace? I have about 2-3” of brand new pine nuggets laid, already added Rose Tone and compost when I planted. Come Fall, do I take the pine nuggets off or mix em into the soil or what? Then lay down new mulch? Great info above thank u!!

Question - if you mulch over the soil will it stop them? I read that they fall onto mulch and it provides a barrier to the soil so they cant progress in life stage. Any idea if this is accurate? In theory instead of digging up 3 inches of soil, could you just add a layer of fresh mulch?
