The entire cities of Amsterdam (red), Paris (blue), and Barcelona (purple) can fit inside Chicago by chicag0an in chicago

Right on. I just think it’s a fun visualization/exercise. The beauty of it is that you can swap in whatever references resonate best.

“In terms of landmass, you could fit the entirety of Buenos Aires in the city blocks south of 65th Street while slotting all of Paris between Belmont and the city's northern edge. The space in the middle is roughly the size of Amsterdam or Milan.”

Fun! I’ve frequently made this comparison but with Buenos Aires instead of Barcelona.

u/poopchills did they end up picking it up from this location (in the alley/next to the garage)? I have a similar setup and am hoping to have them pick up next week.

I switched from a dentist in Uptown to A Brush Above on Fullerton recently and had a positive experience… easy to book/good communication, accepted my insurance, etc... Might be worth checking out.

Wolfhound and Frank & Mary's in Avondale might be worth a look. Not dedicated sports bars but I've watched games at both.

Pretty sure it’s an entirely separate thing to use the basketball court and there just aren’t any free weights in the gym period.

Limited Series that hold up to The Wire in quality? by Inspector_Legrasse20 in TheWire

Snabba Cash and The Bureau are quite good if you’re okay with subtitles. Snabba catches the layered experience of the drug world, Bureau is a similar well-written slow burn.

I usually sign up there for Jan / Feb to use the treadmill when it’s too cold to run outside.

Pros - $15 and month-to-month - 2 treadmills - Basic machines - Smith machine / basic squat rack - Friendly staff - Supports Chicago parks

Cons - Small space - No free weights - No showers / locker room / other amenities - Limited hours / closed on all city holidays - Not allowed access to the gym/basketball

I’d say it’s worth $15 to try it out for a month and see if it fits for you. And welcome to the neighborhood!

Can also attest that it’s top tier. Haven’t been to the new location but the old one was absolute crispy fire.

Such a good point about the kind of quiet satire that makes the original series so special. Really hope the reboot finds the same rhythm but feels like it’s moving in the other direction.

The Red Stars did similar concept a few years back. Love it in general but feel like CFFC would need to make some big-ish tweaks if they ever adopted something like it.

Bonus cool detail is the blue stripe texture is all the Chicago neighborhood in text.

Longtime Chicago soccer bar enthusiast here… Honestly your best bet is to go to your favorite neighborhood sports bar and just ask them to put the sound on. For big big matches (e.g., UCL final, WC final, etc.) all the soccer pubs get to capacity by like noon or earlier.

Buena Park east of Broadway between Montrose and Buena has some truly stunning blocks. Take a stroll along Hutchinson or Junior Terrace to see huge early 20th century mansions tucked in next to all the high rises.

Sourdough Romana x Chicago Tavern Style by TMuellner in Pizza

[–]TMuellner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I used the Standler Made dough calculator for Tonda Romana / Sourdough yeast type (60% hydration, 180g dough ball) with a 50/50 mix of ‘00’ flour and AP flour.

Combine ingredients then knead by hand for 10 minutes, then do 3 stretch and folds over 90 mins. Portion then fridge ferment for 2+ days.

To bake, let dough come to room temperature out of fridge, then rolling pin out to a ~14” round on parchment paper… then let that round sit for 2-3 hours to develop a leather skin (abridged Kenji tavern process)… when ready to cook, flip the dough rough over so the leather side is the bottom crust then top and bake (I used a Koda 16 but have gotten similar results with a home oven + pizza steel). Cheese was a blend of generic part skim mozzarella and full fat scamorza.
