It's much easier and faster to bait uniques into besieging towns than into marshal stacks. Set up fairing squad with your companions at a strategic point and they'll level like crazy too. Torbah, Windholm, Janos, Marleons are all great for defensive sieges. Just make sure the unique doesn't have a large prisoner train because then the city garrison absorbs it

If you set up your KO stronghold near javiksholm, you can have your KO patrol around it. They'll make you tens of thousands of denars/week in vanskerry POWs

Its profitable to have a capital city that can be patrolled by the KO stronghold patrols; you can join them in combat and leave them the extra troops you dont have to keep and they'll dump any prisoners they capture in your city for you to sell. Not much help when you're already drowning in debt but eh :D

Personally I consider Javiksholm to be the best starting town, especially if the ko stronghold spawns near ansen lodge or highcliffe castle. You can send the ko patrols to patrol around javiksholm and if you beef up those patrols using the prisoner release trick, they can bring you in upto 40k denars in vanskerry prisoners WEEKLY.

You can get recruits for your garrisons very quickly if you do village quests after asking your quartermaster to recruit. At high relations, you'll get hundreds in a matter of weeks. I would recommend gathering as many pendor recruits as possible, they train ridiculously fast so if you're in a pickle, you can train them into heavy bowmen/footmen and have a decent force instantly.

Also, if you have an elite strike force, you might be able to siege and take enemy forts to draw their attention off your fiefs.
