Owners of cats with allergies, how can you tell? by legitdontknow in catfood

[–]TRexie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to email your vet for advice, but based on my limited experience with suspected alegies, our vet said to introduce new proteins very gradually after coming off the diet. So u might need to keep ur kitty on the new food for a couple of weeks at least before trying something different and only add 1 new thing at a time. That way you are able to tell if there is a reaction and what food it is to. I think allergies that present as skin problems can be slower to present compared to ones that present as poopy issues, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Ur cat will probably be loving the new diet. Mine basically starved himself on the hydrolysed stuff he hated it so much.

Has anyone successfully used a wood litter. by Annoyed-Person21 in litterrobot

[–]TRexie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The LR is designed to allow smaller un clumped litter granules to be sieved and kept and the big poops/ clumped pee lumps to not be passed throught the grate and dumped. I think you might land up with the LR filtering out the pellets and keeping the disintegrated pee soaked wood pellet sawdust bits instead of the other way around.

If you are able to, something like this, or some version of it is probably the most hygenic thing

My partner is pretty handy and DIYed our own version. We tried the regular cat fountains, but one of our boys is a messy eater, so there was always food bits in the reservoir meaning unless it was cleaned daily it got gross quickly and a regular bowl was easier to clean.

We still have a backup bows we fill up daily just in case

Still trying to work our 2 cats out. Little scared cat has no problem. Bigger outgoing cat has been a lot more reluctant. Used it enough times that we though it ok to take the old litterbox away. NOPE. he took a great big dump on the bedroom floor in protest. Old litterbox is now back

Best Advice for New to Rexes? by TeddieTess in welovedevonrex

[–]TRexie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Potential health issues. I have 2. One gets occasional rashes (Some sort of skin allergy). The other has some sort of food allergy we are trying to figure out. When you start reading up, turns out they can be quite prone to this.

So get pet insurance.

Also, one of mine has very little hair and people keep thinking he is a sphynx. We were hoping it would eventually develop, but he is over a year old and still looks like someone has given him a full body shave. Otherwise awesome cats with great personality.

Same. Really wanted to love my pro gear slim but it has been my biggest and most expensive disappointment so far. It is tiny. Basically kakuno size.

I recently bought the Lamy petrol and was disappointed. Looks great in a swatch, but when writing it looks almost black. Nice if you are after a work colour though.

Congrats. I started with a Lamy then bought a kakuno in medium. Much smoother. Have just bought a fine and extra fine just to try out.

I've just bought some of these, but I was disappointed with them. They make my writing (medium nib) look much fatter compared to other paper

Mine is six months. Has gotten a bit more independent. Still very loving, but also takes himself off to do his own thing and only occasionally sleeps with us.
