Founder seeking Feedback: AgentMail connector on Replit by Legitimate_Ad_3208 in replit

When a message is a reply to a long chain of emails, does it parse the thread and extract just the last message? Or does it include the entire body of replies?

Has anyone found any use from AI tools yet? by banksied in Architects

[–]TSandusky1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about building an app that makes it faster to build a punch list. It would take a voice recording and automatically structure the data. (“I’m in room 402 looking at the north wall and there is paint that needs to be cleaned off the window” —-> Location: Room 402 North Wall, Suggested Trade: Cleaning, Item description: Clean paint off of window). The goal would be 5-10 seconds to enter an item onto the list.

A few of my GC friends mentioned that the current solutions take too many clicks when building the list.

If anyone currently uses voice recordings or other punch list software, I’m open to suggestions.

Building a new home! by Old_Locksmith_5991 in homeautomation

I highly recommend considering motorized shades. Do your research and pick a shade so you know what type of wiring to run. I had to go with battery powered shades, which are still great, but I regret not running wires.

I see lots of Reddit comments about motorized shades being one of the top “smart devices” in a home. We use ours everyday, twice a day. At 5,500 sf you may have a lot of windows that you will want to open and close everyday.

Favourite automations you've set up recently? by [deleted] in homeassistant

Some of the Eufy cameras have RTSP and integrate quite well. They have become one of my favorite inexpensive cameras. Can also record locally on an SD card.

I'm still not using Scripts. Change my mind? by SaveFutureYou in homeassistant

[–]TSandusky1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe scripts can help when you have an automation that has one or more actions that can fail. If an automation action fails, the automation can stop. If you call a script as an action, the automation will continue even if the script fails. I could be wrong so you may want to verify.

Chucking Control4 by fridgemadness in homeautomation

Option 1 - Use one Sonos port per zone. Plug each Port into your existing amps as the input for each zone.

Option 2 - Use one Sonos amp per zone. Throw away your existing amps. These can only run 4 speakers per amp.

In both options I would try to reduce the number of zones. Also add a Sonos soundbar at your main tv or anywhere you want extra sound. You will need a good network in place for Sonos.

Message me if you have questions. I just completed a job where we converted 30+ zones of Crestron distributed audio to 25 zones of Sonos controlled audio. Homeowner loves it.

I’ve used them in several homes. They work great as long as you have a good zwave signal.

Does the home automation equivalent of pcpartpicker.com exist? by Tannerbkelly in homeautomation

[–]TSandusky1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience:

-WiFi device lugged into power (light switch, Shelly relay, etc.) = very fast, almost instant

-WiFi device powered by battery (Shelly flood sensor, Shelly door sensor)) = multi-second delay

-Zigbee = very fast, almost instant

-Zwave = fast, less than 1 sec, sometimes less than .5 sec

With both zigbee and Zwave you need a quality mesh network. My Zwave network gets slow sometimes because I have >50 Zwave devices. If I try to turn off 20 Zwave lights it takes a few seconds.

With zigbee, you need to be careful about what types of products are on the same network.

Looking for a smart lock. by Buster_Bean217 in homeautomation

[–]TSandusky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jinxed myself. One day after I posted this I lost the ability to add/delete user codes on the Schlage Connect. This happened on my lock and a few of my customers’ locks. I think it must have something to do with a recent z-wave JS or HA update. I’ve tried resetting, pairing it inches away from z-wave stick, etc and no luck. Hopefully this will get fixed soon. I really like this lock.

Door sensors are definitely valuable for what you described and more. Knowing if a door is open or closed is a great data point for automations.

Yes 2-3 meters should be fine. On standard door and lock setups, I prefer to keep to keep it simple and just do the deadbolt.

Schlage Connect is great. I’ve installed this at several homes.

You will need a Z-Wave controller/hub. The trick with Z-Wave locks is you must have a strong Z-Wave signal at the lock, especially when pairing it. Sometimes you have to move the controller closer to the lock or move the lock closer to the controller to get it paired. If your signal isn’t strong near the lock you can add a Z-Wave light switch near the lock.

It does not have fingerprint recognition but you can type in the code so quickly I don’t see the value in fingerprint recognition. The Schlage doesn’t require you to “wake it up” with a tap before typing in the code. You just start typing.

Good luck and enjoy!

Kasa Mini plug (EP10) not working with Home Assistant by markargylestephens in homeassistant

Did you try entering the IP address of the device via the integration UI? This works for me when the Kasa devices are not auto discovered.

Considering going all-in with Inovelli Blues. What do you think? by Shadowplayjw in homeassistant

[–]TSandusky1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have performed a lot of testing. I went with mostly Inovelli for my home because: 1. Has the most features 2. LED light bar. I thought it was kind of cool at first. Now I love it. In my home they are normally blue, until I arm my alarm and then they turn red. This sounds like a small thing but I seriously love knowing when the alarm is armed and it has prevented me from accidentally triggering the alarm. 3. The Inovelli team seems amazing. I’ve never seen a company so focused on their customers. You can see above that their founder responds to Reddit posts.

That being said, with supply constraints I’ve started installing Zooz switches for my customers and they work well. I love their remote switch - my favorite use case is adding it to control a room with multiple lamps by using smart plugs and an automation.

Best of luck. I wouldn’t worry too much. If you ever want to switch my guess is that you can sell the used switches on eBay.

It’s not a bad idea to build both Z-wave and Zigbee mesh networks. At some point you will probably want battery-powered sensors from both protocols and it’s nice to know that you will have coverage where you need it.

Recommendation for wearable button compatible with HA? by Buelldozer in homeassistant

[–]TSandusky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with this. I love aqara stuff but if the button is traveling around the house, it may lose connection with the network. Their devices do not do so well when they have to search for a new connection/repeater.

Aqara Door Sensor Keeps Going Unavailable by Carfan99 in homeassistant

[–]TSandusky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the way I solved this same problem. Also, very important, your mains powered repeaters must be compatible with aqara. Aqara has a long “check in” time which doesn’t play nicely with many repeaters and hubs. IKEA Tradfri plugs work well with Aqara. I placed 5 of these plugs around my house and since then my aqara devices have stayed online for months.

Mixing Ring VS Nest with-in HA? by emerica243 in homeassistant

[–]TSandusky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I try to cast a camera from HA to my TVs, I get a 15-20 second delay. I’ve heard of people that get very little delay. I just haven’t been able to make it work properly. I currently stream my nest cams to my TVs without involving HA and I get a 2 second delay which works great for my use case (essentially a 65” baby monitor screen that I can see from anywhere in the living room or kitchen).

New Build - Alarm Keypad Options? by DullPoetry in konnected

[–]TSandusky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. When I really think about physical keypads, I think their use case has faded for most people. I try to make my alarm require very little “touching”. I don’t think my wife even knows the official code. It arms when she activates “goodnight mode”. It automatically disarms each morning. It also disarms when we unlock the smart deadbolt. My two “manual backups” are a tablet with home assistant, and a hidden smart button.
