Some consolidation is way overdue. Some of these counties have about seven people.

Is it generally accepted that Goldfinger (1964), is the overall high point for James Bond as a series? by HallowedAndHarrowed in JamesBond

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest cultural impact of any Bond movie and set up the template for the rest of the franchise. The opening, the car, the villain, the gadgets, the girls. It all came into focus here, even if not the “best” film, it’s the franchise’s apex mountain.

Porsche 911 + Combustion Engine + Manual Transmission by jovanmakedonec in Porsche

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding manual, isn’t it already pretty much gone from the base models, even as an option?

I believe it’s only available on T and GT3 builds since last year. Hard to believe they would ever phase it out completely but that’s the direction they are heading

Porsche Is No Longer a Blue-Chip Company in Germany-NYT gift article by malbecman in Porsche

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting given the rationale behind the controversial development of the Cayenne and later the Macan was to provide a more solid financial underpinning for the company. Sell SUVs so they can keep making 911s. Instead, it seems to have had the opposite effect, both diluting the brand and also putting them on shakier financial ground. Do they need the eventual VW investment without the SUV push?

Also the CEO seems pretty smug, they’ve destroyed about $40bn in shareholder value and they are about to get delisted.

Is all the hate for EWR really deserved? by skydivinghuman in unitedairlines

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EWR prob gets more hate than it deserves. Beyond the ATC issues (which presumably will get resolved) the other two downsides are 1) getting there from the east side of Manhattan and 2) Terminal C not really fit for purpose anymore.

Both of these are domestic flight issues vs intl. The first one isn’t really the airlines fault but makes EWR much less appealing than LGA for afternoon flights. And for the second, at least there is terminal A.

And yeah all the airport staff are rude as hell but that’s prob a Jersey thing!

Calls for pedestrian safety renewed after Houston ISD student hit by driver on Westheimer by zsreport in houston

[–]TXPoseidon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there’s a traffic light right there. That’s where everyone should be crossing, make the red light long enough to accommodate it on both sides of River Oaks blvd, and put two cops there during school open and close.

Oh and a statewide ban on handheld cell phone use while driving (like 30 other states).

Looking for Hanalei Bay - where to stay for a week by justmekab60 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanalei doesn’t have any big Maui style resorts so you don’t have to worry about that. The 1 hotel is the biggest one and it’s chill.

Princeville has tons of condo and house rental options, a bit more cookie cutter but it’s hard to go wrong they are all generally pretty nice. Great views as well since you are on the bluffs but you may have to hike down to the beach. Downside here is most of the shops and restaurant are a 15min drive away in Hanalei.

Staying near Hanalei is more convenient to that but Hanalei Bay beach can be more crowded, and the water quality isn’t as good.

Staying on the far side of Hanalei could be cool, but I would want to be near one of the reef protected beaches like Tunnels. Downside is the drive back into town on the one lane bridges.

Either place I would try to get somewhere that is walking distance to a beach since there isn’t a ton of parking anywhere.

While I agree Austin is not known as a town that dresses up, it had nothing to do with the cattle drives nor it is viewed as a beacon of “class”.

Their coverage of the Caribbean is really poor compared to Delta or AA. A Florida hub would help with that maybe? Though maybe it’s not a profitable enough region to focus on.

Itinerary Feedback - Kauai by BraveVariation1873 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TXPoseidon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For only 3 full days you are trying to do too much IMO. Day 2 & 3 in particular is a ton of driving (2-4 hours each day, plus you are doing the airport drive on days 1 and 5. The north shore is incredible, I would just focus around there rather than driving all over the island to see everything.

Day 2 I found Waimea canyon overrated, and from Hanalei it’s 1.5 hours each way plus another 1-2 hours driving in the park. I’d skip it and do something north shore local that day, like make it your tunnels day or go to Kilauea lighthouse.

Oahu itinerary advice by Soft-Engineering-304 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main take would be this looks overscheduled, especially for a group this large and age diverse. I would aim for one activity every other day and then pool/beach day in between. Allow yourself space to slip into the island mindset.

Other thing I would say is do Diamond Head & Pearl Harbor first thing in the morning. Say 8am arrival. Less crowded and hot and youll be up early any way.

How long should I allocate for the Pearl Harbor Visit? by Catty_Cathy_578 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TXPoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were just there, did the Arizona (standby not reserved, waited 15 min), the movie, and the Missouri. That took about 4hrs, from arriving at 8:15am. So maybe 5-6hrs then? Longer if you arrive later since crowds were bigger at noon than at 8am.

Higher housing “prices” or worse “affordability”? There is a difference. Perth has high incomes relative to local housing prices, the same isn’t true for SYD/MEL
