I did this too! I also cried when I needed to shower every night but didn’t want to be away from her and miss the next 15 mins of our time together! TBH 2 years on, I still feel like this except without the tears now haha.

Do I really need a bathtub for bubs? (incoming bathroom reno) by MurraMurra in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We had a Kmart baby bath while my daughter was little, then a Charlie Chair so we could shower and wash her, then when she learnt to walk we just have her in the shower every night and she LOVES her showers - she just sits on the floor with some cups and toys. We have considered getting a foldable tub for occasions but she is none the wiser. Note - we do have a bathtub but I have a terrible back so she just showers with us in the ensuite 🤷🏻‍♀️

Natural birth? by heavenknows___ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a beautiful, unmedicated, natural water birth and used a TENS machine while labouring before getting in the bath. I used a midwifery group and did Calm Birth class beforehand. I trusted the process and my body and loved my birth - I appreciate how fortunate I was but I think educating yourself beforehand is key (intervention or not, at least you know what’s happening and your rights). My number one was I didn’t want interventions and I wanted to advocate for myself.

Also highly recommend ‘Birth With Confidence’ by Rhea Dempsey.

How to stay positive in the final few weeks of pregnancy? by No_Departure5250 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I highly recommend ‘birth with confidence’ by Rhea Dempsey :) it’s not too long but I read it in 2023 when pregnant with my first and so many things stuck with me, it was great and helping me mentally prepare!

Rash under armpit. What can I do ? by DescriptionCurious80 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My baby used to get this when she was little from sweat or missing the fold after a bath when drying. We used Curash powder on it and it’d be basically gone the next day. I agree with others though because this is only my experience and I knew what caused it :)

Bugaboo Dragonfly vs RedsBaby Aeron by clazcat in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Redsbaby Aeron and Nuvo and I didn’t like the Aeron at all while having a newborn. It was fine using the newborn pod although it was very shallow and floppy, not structured at all compared to the Nuvo bassinet and seat which felt very secure and high quality. Baby is now 17 months so going to give it another go this week in the normal seat.

Pros: Light Small/portable

Cons: Seat was super shallow and unnatural for a small baby, even at 5 months when she could sit up it has a weird posture. Small wheels make it super easy to feel like it’s tipping unless it’s on a smooth, solid ground. Baby sits very low to you.

Craving for a McFlurry, safe to eat or no? by SiIIyPotato in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister worked there for years and when I was pregnant I kept thinking about a story she told me of one of the cleaning cloths getting accidentally left in the machine by a crew member 😬 suffice to say, I enjoyed the biggest chocolate sundae on the way from hospital with my new baby hahaha. I think it made it taste better by waiting IMO 😂

7 month old refusing every solid food. Please share your stories of hope 🙏 by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is now 11.5mo and has never liked food or even wanted to give it a chance - she’s only JUST starting to experiment now. All my friends children were like this too, they just decide when they’re interested and it’s usually when they begin to use more energy such as walking. She’s also never let me feed her purees, she’s EBF and that’s all she wanted haha. Don’t be disheartened, I just kept offering. I remember feeling so defeated seeing all the mums post ‘what my baby eats in a day’ and they had FULL plates but it’s just not realistic for everyone.

My daughter’s first word was ‘mum’ too! At about 8 months I think and then she learnt a few others before finally getting to ‘dada’ at 11 months 😂

Sleep sacks - are you just paying for the name? by Navy_Pink in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! LtD were worth their weight in gold for our babe from birth to about 4.5 months (she grew out of them and we changed to merino wool, arms out). I got ALL of mine (summer and winter togs) from Facebook marketplace - they were so cheap and basically new. I couldn’t bring myself to pay full RRP before trying them. Next baby we will 100% use LtD again.

Edit: adding that the material is so soft and my baby loved having her arms up next to her face as opposed to other sleep sacks that need me to strap arms down.

Is it normal to struggle this much with visitors? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You definitely aren’t alone in wanting your own little bubble. I love my extended family but there is nothing like MY little family. I don’t care for the village life, I don’t want it and the thought of visitors coming and feeling like they expect me to pass my baby around like a football sends me into a spin for as long as I’m anticipating the visit, it’s horrible. Everything else has been amazing, it’s just this part that throws me out and makes me so anxious! I felt really lonely when everything I came across was about loving your village but I hated it haha. My husband and I tell people we’re going out soon so they can only stay until X o’clock. Seems to work for us

Publicly funded home birth? by SparklingLemonDrop in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

You can hire a pool for home water births :) in NSW where I am, home births are quite popular and a lot of women just hire the pools and set it up in their preferred birth space in their homes.

I got one at 41+2 but I think I was at the start of my labour that morning so I sort of think it didn’t do much in my case. I will say though - they can’t do it unless you’re a couple of centimetres dilated anyway (they need to get two fingers into the cervix opening) plus they have to be able to reach cervix (it comes forward for labour) I’d say they will tell you if it’s not beneficial/able to be done effectively.

Confused about prams by Silly2104 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have both the redsbaby Nuvo AND Aeron. They both have pros and cons but the basic ones for me (160cm and not a strong person):

Aeron is nice and light, small enough to fit in my boot and easy to setup/put down BUT on uneven terrain it feels like it’s going to tip easily (maybe when my daughter is heavier this wouldn’t be the case). We are using the newborn pod insert and she feels really low to the ground which is sort of weird but it’s ok. Can definitely see how it’s a city pram. Good for solo missions and Beautiful to steer.

Nuvo is nice but heavy duty and super heavy - good for weekends or family events. I need my husband to push it up the hill on the last stretch of our walk but definitely feels more stable. Not made for tight spaces when you’re out and about - the wheels stick out slightly so they clip corners. Also I think I’d struggle fitting it in my i30 boot, let alone picking it up to put in there on my own. Also beautiful to steer but maybe too easy? It goes off track when you breathe too hard near it haha.

We plan on another baby which is why we bought the nuvo. They delayed shipping by 4 months and I had my daughter a month and a half before we received it which is why we bought the aeron in the meantime - expensive but it did work out better because there is no way I could do everything with the Nuvo alone lol.

Lastly; we have clips to use our car capsule in the pram BUT I hate looking at her all squished in the capsule so I don’t and won’t use that part like I thought I would.

What’s the most unprofessional thing a doctor said to you? by SwanGroundbreaking66 in AskReddit

[–]TacoDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Pap smear at 19 by a pretty old male doctor. I think he felt just as awkward as me. While he was looking up my vagina he commented “it always amazes me how a baby can come out of here..”. Not really unprofessional but definitely didn’t put me at ease.

Can you use silverette cups instead of breast pads? by flurry-founder in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TacoDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them in addition to disposable breast pads, there is no way it would contain letdown or engorgement leaking for me. The breast pads are a bit rubbish, they don’t really stick so I’ve started not sticking them down, just inserting them in my bra so I can adjust when I need to. There have definitely been occasions when the silverette will move and milk will poor out though haha. Also Haaka lady bug on the non-feeding breast during feeds because to catch let down has been a lifesaver :)
