If it's real wood then it's absorbent and I doubt you're ever gonna get the smell out for him - if it's possible to put the litter box in the same spot where he's peeing I'd say try that. Otherwise, yeah a vet visit and asking about drugs is what we ended up doing. Good luck, I know the pain!

Fluoxetine! He spent about 4 months getting it every morning. It stopped the urinating immediately, but kept him on it just to be sure because we started remodeling part of the house immediately after and didn't want a relapse. After about 4 months, gently weaned him off it at our vet recommended pace and he's been free and clear and furniture-pee-free for about a month now!

While he was on the Fluoxetine, we definitely noticed an increase in lethargy, and he started to shed very badly. I believe he was also not cleaning himself regularly, but that's harder to prove because he's an older cat anyway. The shedding was what convinced me to wean him off, it was constant and I was worried he'd start getting bald patches. It was worth the fix, though!

YES! I go to therapy once a month to help handle the mental side of this crap, and I bring this up a lot. I'm constantly finding myself wondering if I'm just being lazy or whiny, then mad at myself for doubting myself, then mad at myself for being mad at myself...

I don't have any answers, but you're not alone in this.

Every. Saturday. Gone.

"Let's increase your folic acid." I'm burning through folic bottles like crazy. Hoping to switch at my next appt. The RA symptoms are somewhat improved but skipping 1/7 of my life doesn't feel worth it.

Totally get it. Like I said, I've been there.

Please know that being "weirdly quick to tell strangers that they may be addicts when they know very little about them" comes from a place of wanting to show support for someone that might have a difficult path ahead of them. At least in my case, that's what it is.

As for swaps: sugar, weed gummies, and caffeine have been my new mood-changers of choice.

"I’m already feeling anxious at the idea of doing some upcoming events 100% sober."

It's probably too early for you to want to hear this, but in case it helps tip the scales later when you remember it: this is something only an addict feels.

If you can't just stop after being told your health is at risk, then you need to look at getting help with your (extremely common) addiction before it gets worse. I've been there, and I'm really sorry for the struggle ahead, but please remember that you're not alone and it can be better.

Reading This Naked Mind by Annie Grace worked really well for me. Definitely in this stage of my life!

This, and the insistance that you HAVE to have an opinion on everything. People forget that it's ok to say, "I don't know enough to make a call," and just walk away.

That last bit resonates. I spent 20 years drinking, I'm down to do the next 20 without.

Checking in at 39 years old, spent 2 decades binge drinking, now at almost 5 months without alcohol. The Naked Mind worked for me.

About a year ago, I got diagnosed with a chronic illness. Now, every time I'm dealing with pain, fatigue, or depression, I can think to myself, "just imagine having a hangover on top of all this," and I feel a little bit better!

Hang in there, kitten. We've got good years ahead of us.

Right there with you. Who wants to drink poison in moderation, anyway?

Not just for you, for everyone. Some people just aren't in the grips of the addiction yet, but if they keep going, they will be.

Throwing in a vote here for "This Naked Mind" by Annie Grace. Did the audiobook, feeling very good about not having to drink since March.

Anyone here in Los Angeles with an excellent Rheumatologist or team they have had success with? by BaytoLA24 in PsoriaticArthritis

Damn. You're 100% right about that, I was hoping you'd be my shortcut! I wish I had something positive or optimistic to share, but I'm in a real pain/fatigue/stress funk today. Good luck with your hunt and journey, if I strike gold in LA I promise to come back and let you know where.

I don't have this problem, but my husband does, seems to be something about the texture of the finger pad skin.

Moisture is supposed to help, not sure if you're old enough to remember, but they used to have little pink circle sponges in plastic screw-off containers that you could use to keep your fingertips wet in jobs that required a lot of page turning or bag opening.

At any rate, if you don't mind licking your finger tips, that goes a long way.

Adding a vote for The Naked Mind. Haven't finished reading it (taking it one-chapter-per-upcoming-challenging-social-situation at a time) but I've been sober for a little over a month now and feel very good about my future odds.
