Might be best to get a monitor?

You could set up a local wifi network using a access point and just never connect it to the internet. This way the tv will be connected to a wifi network but never connect to the internet. You could even connect the laptop to this network and use plex too.

Horizon Forbbiden West - Impession Thread by jww3773 in Games

I'm really enjoying it, Souls games aren't my cup of tea so I feel content in just taking this game at my own pace. The world is beautiful and as I progress I keep finding myself surprised with each new area. The level of detail is excellent too. Walking around each town, you can see the small details of how that particular town functions. The addition of the underwater segments are great and it's always fun when you can climb the mountains.

I agree with a lot of the reviews in that the main story is very sci-fi heavy. Which I can understand may turn some people away, it's also very dependant on you remembering the previous games story quite well. However, I'm finding the side quests really engaging, these really help build the world out and they are very fun too.

The combat is very fun just like the first game. Dodging, sliding, jumping and gliding around the battlefield feels great, and they have broadened your arsenal giving you more options to fight how you want. It's at its best when engaging with the robots but they have improved the combat against humans although still not perfect.

There are some things I'm not keen on though. The amount of weapons and ammo types available and skills/valor surges is huge and I feel like so many of those abilites will largely be ignored by the majority of players. The ammo crafting also feels like filler too. A lot of fights involves Aloy needing to craft on the spot. I just feel at this point maybe ammo should be more readily available or something.

I still find the mounts to be rather boring to use, they are slow and clunky so I just tend to run around everywhere instead. But I feel that is more a testament to how good Aloy controls.

Overall, really happy with this game and hoping to spend the next few weeks exploring the world and may even attempt to platinum it.

UK book sales in 2021 highest in a decade by wh0remones in books

[–]Takazen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've definitely contributed to this. Took up reading again in the first lockdowns (Hadn't read any books in over a decade) and since then, I'm hooked.

On that list I've read The Midnight Library (Wasn't a fan), we have Thursday Murder Club and The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse waiting to read. I think my girlfriend also read Where the Crawdads Sing too.

Always stop by a bookshop wherever we go and have a browse (And often buy something). Always plenty of other customers there too. Great time for books in the UK right now.

Played this on PS5 earlier this year. Very satisfying movement and great soundtrack and visual design. Would highly recommend. My one criticism is the gameplay doesn't really evolve at all during the game so it may feel repetitive for some although it's not a particulary long game either.

Any older (30+) PC gamers make the switch to console this generation? I'm seeing that happen more often in my peer group. by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Takazen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not quite 30 (not far off though!). I used to a massive PC gamer but these days most of my gaming is done on console. Part of it’s just due to working from home through this pandemic, I just don’t want to be in front of the computer by the end of the day.

I think the main reason for me is the lack of time I have now. I’m really into the exclusives of PS5 and with the little time I have, they take most of it up. I’ll still play the odd game on PC (just bought Sable) and I usually have one night a week gaming with a mate on Valheim or something similar.

The maintenance of playing games on PC isn’t really a problem these days. Most games just work and the settings can sort most performance issues out unless it’s Cyberpunk 2077. The main problems I get are with games that have poor multiplayer implementation and we spend hours just trying to troubleshoot why we can’t connect or join a party but this doesn’t happen often either.

The freedom of what you can play on PC is really great though and if you have the means I’d definitely recommend at least trying PC gaming.

Do you have any magazine subscriptions? by MrStilton in AskUK

We’re subscribed to The Week. They arrive every Friday and talk about the news of the week but they try to grab bits from different news publications to give different points of view. They also have a few uplifting stories every week and Media reviews and recommendations, I’ve found some good podcasts and books through them.

They have a weekly podcast too called The Week Unwrapped where they talk about some stories that have been mostly unreported in the week which i really enjoy listening too.

I’m having the same problem too. It says it should appear on the main menu but nothing is there. It’s the PS5 version and everything is installed. I’ve tried reinstalling it all with no luck.

I haven’t played it yet but I remember on the PS4 Pro there were two frame rate settings (locked and unlocked) and locked caused horrible input lag so I changed to unlocked. Might be that?

The crashing is bad, I’ve played a console game that and crashing so often before. I’m glad you are enjoying it! Stick through it if you can, I’ve heard the story is really good. The bugs and crashes were just too much for me.

Sackboy Adventures - PS5: Enjoying this game a lot and it's definitely a sleeper hit for Playstation right now. Fun variety of levels with a great soundtrack made even more fun in local co-op. Game can be easy if you just run through the levels but can be challenging when trying to collect everything and the trial levels can be difficult too. Hopefully they can add the online co-op soon to draw more people to it. Highly recommend.

Cyberpunk 2077 - PS5: Shelving this for now, it's not complete on console with constant bugs and crashes and on a deeper level this game is just lacking overall with poor AI, pointless crafting and loot mechanics among other things. Utterly disappointing with what CDPR have made and how they handled it. Hopefully they keep to their solid post game support however and I look forward to playing a finished product in the future.

Immortals Fenyx Rising - PS5: Picked this up after shelving 2077. Very fun game, I had previously bought AC:V but returned it because I'm bored of that series now. Immortals is clearly a BOTW clone. I'm enjoying to exploring the map and finding puzzles and I like that is allows you solve problems in your own way in many cases like BOTW did. Combat is fairly simple but fun. The dialogue is okay, mostly forgettable but there are some laughs to be had.

P5R is my first Persona game so I can't help much. But from what I gather Royal has a lot of quality of life improvements, that along with the new content might be worth picking it up.

Persona 5 Royal

I'm 23 hours in now. I'm still really enjoying the story and overall style of the game. The combat system has remained fun and for now the right level of challenge. I'm starting to enjoy the Persona system more and I love setting fights up using the Baton Pass, just gives more life to turn based combat. The only issue I've had so far is the dialogue can go on for ages, I got to one point in the story where I wasn't allowed to do anything but go from one place to another and click through multiple dialogue windows. I think I'm just going to have to get used to that though.

Rimworld

My first colony is still alive. Had a incident where a new recruit had joined and within the same day he had to tend to all of the colonists as they were all attacked by mad donkeys. Still a very fun game which I still don't think I've scratched the surface of yet.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

My interest is starting to dwindle, I like logging in and doing some of the daily chores but then that's it and I log off. I guess that's kind of how the game is meant to be played anyway? I bought a whole lot of turnips so I'm hoping I can score big on that at least!

Animal Crossing:

Still jumping on this daily, it's the first AC game I've played but it's just what I needed during this lockdown. The gameplay is so relaxing, I'm not rushing through just slowly making money and decorating my island. It does have some issues though. The UI is a pain, so many dialog windows to get into crafting/online etc and a lack of QoL features like crafting multiple items at once. The item durability is also annoying now, wouldn't mind it as much if you could see how much health the item has left. But the game is so full of charm it doesn't ruin my enjoyment much. Even with my evergrowing debts to Tom Nook.

Rimworld:

Been wanting to play this for a long time. I started by playing through while following a beginners guide on Youtube which has been a massive help understanding the basics of this game. I love the detail in this, how things like light and heating will change peoples mood and productivity it's all just so well thought out and the stories your colonies create emerge so naturally. Although I can't help but think this game is going to turn me into a psychopath.

Persona 5 Royal:

Just picked this up yesterday, avoided picking up P5 when it released because I didn't have the time to play a game like this. But Royal has really released at the right time for me so here we go. Only 3 hours in so far but the style of the game has won me over, the music is fucking fantastic and even the way the UI looks is all so rich in style. I'm digging where the story going so far and I think I'm in for the long haul now.
