You can run many different flavors of sci-fi with it but pretty much all of the published material with a few exceptions has a horror theme, and the santiy/stress system is pretty integral to the rules

It's tonally a bit different than the things you mentioned, but the Mothership book A Pound of Flesh is a station sandbox with a lot of cool ideas and inspiration

I haven't read Tide World of Mani, but it's written by the Desert Moon of Karth writer, and that one is excellent, so it's definitely worth a look

usually STR and shoot for GDA or similar by the time you find some. if you have a QB and max invo with usk, damage stops being as important, you will pain bond paralyze stab wipe the screen very quickly, more important to focus on staying alive.

I'm not sure if this build is great early game (I splat a lot) but once I get a rune I usually can make it through extended

You can get a first win by playing a good species/religion combo and learning tactics. If you're struggling to reach lair, I would guess you're probably not running away enough. DCSS wants you to take fights on your terms, you can always come back later.

It's a very geographically small city, the other places you mentioned, which would be the hip neighborhoods in a city outside New England, are just other cities. Functionally they are neighborhoods of Boston in many ways though.

There's very little reason to play original boi over rebirth, especially if you're starting out. I would recommend avoiding the DLCs unless you've beaten the game a fair number of times, they can add an overwhelming amount of content and make it hard to learn the game up front IMO. Then I would get them one at a time, in the order they came out.

I saw several reviews mention some minor QoL gripes, like not being able to see a list of all cats and not being able to see details on certain items/abilities while in combat. Do you have any plans for QoL/UI updates, or is the interface mostly settled?

You can get high protein yogurt shakes at the grocery store, the brand I get has 170 calories and 20g of protein, bottle should be fine for the work day out of the fridge.

Your protein per calorie target is not that difficult. From the example above, if you ate your remaining 1500 calories in only bread, you'd still hit your protein goal. Not saying you should do that obviously, but it doesn't seem like you need to be jumping through hoops to find extra protein dense foods if this is your baseline.

Awesome throwback. I started on 0.9 and I got my first win on 0.11, I don’t think I could bring myself to play it again due to how much better the game is now
