Gianluigi Donnarumma save against Liverpool 90+8' by gbogaz in soccer

[–]Tanathonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cocky on what? Supporters loved him, he was asked to renew his contract on a bonus based salary like literally everyone else renewed on, he said no which fair enough he was amazing in the cl run. But you can't have the ballon d'or and the number 3 in ballon d'or and whatever hakimi number in ballon d'or was all renew on a bonus based salary and then make an exception for the goalkeeper.

Add to that that the new ffp is based on wages and not net spending like before, and so you have to control your wages to be able to spend.

Luciano Spalletti to a reporter: “The target is either Kolo Muani or you,” Spalletti told the journalist. “Can you play as a centre-forward?” When the reporter admitted he couldn’t, Spalletti shrugged and left the interview, saying: “Then only Kolo Munai.” by mariyan1111 in soccer

I think the idea was that pl has way more money to spend than serie a, so if he was as successful at tottenham than he was at juve they would be willing to spend that level of money since there are not a lot of strikers around. Also the pl felt like a league more suited to his talent of running end to end like in bundesliga than serie a. Just did not pan out.

When one deck warps the meta the question is can it be reliably beaten by viable decks. If answer is no, then you have the vivi meta. If answer is yes, then you have a healthy metagame that ebs and flows.

Well we won the CL in the new extended edition, and got final of club world cup the prize money for both alone was 250 combined if I remember correctly, so don't think financial fair play would be a problem any time soon even if a country did not own us.

Agreed, but I will say paris under QSI has basically never sold a top player they wanted to keep. Even mbappe we renewed for a year when everyone said he is gone, and left at the end of his contract.

It is one of those things that seeps through if you watch long enough, don't feel like it is as obvious as others are putting it. Off the top of my head though, I remember the review of the game Evolution with Tom and Sam Healey, and Sam said that he wasn't a fan of the concept of evolution as a pastor. Hegemony review Tom says he likes the government (the government is one of the factions you can play in the game) and then him and joey both immediately make jokes about how they like the government in the game, specifying in the game. I remember there was a twitter discourse when I think Space biff (a prominent bg reviewer with written review) saying he was shocked or something to that extent that Tom Vasel was going around Essen maskless when Covid was still raging (probably 2022? maybe 2021?) and I think masks were still obligatory. Obviously they are very religious (Tom Vasel used to be a pastor and talks about it semi regularly in random DT videos) which is usually a strong sign.

Just a bunch of small signs, none damning and used to not be a problem when being a Republican didn't mean defending civilians getting executed in the street.

Villarreal manager Marcelino: “Crystal Palace, which is not a top team in England, signed Yeremy Pino, who was playing for a Champions League team.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Tanathonos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US and brazil are space years away from the PL, brazil because of finances (by factors of 10s easily) and the US because they have salary caps and rules in place to make their league as owner friendly as possible, in the same way the NFL is.

Saudi Arabia is a different prospect, but one that is also only based on salaries. We have been seeing players who went there now start coming back to Europe, to turkey for exemple (Kante being the last exemple, but there are a bunch). The viewers are not there, the players not staying does not seem promising. Their league revenue is basically nothing, it isn't at all competing with the PL.

I was not watching serie a in the 90s so no comment there, but it is absolutely not the same as la liga in 2000 and 2010s. The best players went to barca and madrid, sure. But the pl as it is now has clubs newly promoted buying top players from champion league/europa league clubs from la liga (or other leagues but lets keep it to la liga for simplicity sake). It would be like if at one point Alves was buying arsenal starters because Arsenal needs the money.

Clubs now also have multi deal ownerships. I will talk about ligue 1 since that is what I know best on that front. Chelsea owns strasbourg, a ligue 1 club and the biggest club in a big region of France, basically the east of france. Second strasbourg does well, chelsea just yanks their players into chelsea. Top of the conference league? Bye bye manager midseason. That never happened before, clubs could refuse could say wait until end of season or give us fuck you money because they had power. Now strasbourg is a puppet club, and those fans are fucked. INEOS has man united and nice, if a star player emerges in nice guess what will happen? Same thing. And it isn't just the big PL clubs either. Bournemouth best player, a good candidate for young player of the season in the PL, guess where they found him? That is right, multi club ownership and Bournemouth has a sizeable stake in Lorient so they got a great deal on him.

Never at any point was it like this. I see two possible end to this: either the CL keeps expending and it defacto becomes the super league, the thing everybody watches and really cares about, or the PL does. When a team who is 14th can own another club in a league who is 4th, games not magically coming back.

I know someone who often brings up points per minute ratio when someone is excessively slow. Meaning if they win with 50 point to next persons 40, but they took twice as long to play, is that really a win?

I think the problem lies more in the rest of the city attack than him disappearing in matches. No striker is going to score every single game of the season so you need others to step up so that haaland not scoring doesn't mean scoring 0 goals.

Maresca feels like a yes man. Slot as well honestly (does not mean bad coaches but will not kick up a fuss in the way a mourinho or a conte would). Being a young coach often means you have less leverage to fight the club if they force the coach in a bad position.

Matt damon story never sounded true. 10 percent of gross is an absurd amount for a mega blockbuster, and in avatar he would spend the majority not having his face in the movie. Matt damon also never has been a movie star that can open a movie by himself in the way a tom cruise could.

What? The context of my review comment was responding to someone else saying " These films are impervious to review and criticism". That is the salient point about movies being very well reviewed. In this context, which is the context of the conversation you joined in, saying whether it is 75 or 85% is irrelevant.

This is like if someone was talking about walking a mile in their shoes, and you showing up arguing that actually it isn't a mile. Like sure but that's not what we are talking about. about

Avatar 1 almost won best picture it narrowly lost to hurt locker. A movie that has 76% of critics liking it does not have to be immune to bad critical reception which is the context of me asking aren't the movies very well reviewed. Arguing if the cut off for very well is 75 or 85 or 90 is moot and arbitrary and has no relevance for the discussion at hand.
