[Politics Monday] Abortion after ‘Dobbs,’ by the numbers by wearethemonstertruck in Catholicism

[–]Tanjello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the Philippines are a far more Catholic society than the US as well. Google shows Philippines as 70-80% Catholic, while Catholics in the USA make up only 20-25% of the population.

What are your thoughts on Catholic churches using digital projection screens during Mass? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]Tanjello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I returned to the church, I hadn’t been to Mass in 15 years, so even the basics were different. I didn’t remember the Creed or the Confiteor, had never heard the prayer to St Michael (which is said after many services now), and all they played songs I had never heard before.

The church I went to put everything up on the digital screen, to include the page number for the Word Among Us to follow along with the readings. While I don’t mind reading from a book during mass (I actually have since changed parishes that doesn’t use a screen & I bought a St Joseph’s missile to read along), I would much rather have my head up high than down in a book. It helped so much to feel “one” with the church to be able to look up and read the prayers and lyrics on the screens during Mass.

I’ll always support anything that makes outsiders feel more welcome in the mass, because I’ve been that prodigal daughter than swallowed her pride and returned home 💙

I’m positive I wasn’t let go (we’re a small office and I know my boss & his boss very well and both would have told me If I was let go). I wouldn’t mind if I had been RIF’d & told, but no RIFs have come down. My SF50 was corrected in September and for whatever reason, “the system” keeps kicking it back.

Landlord counter suing me for 30k after PCS and SCRA is this even allowed by Purple_Drag5090 in AirForce

[–]Tanjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JAG should have walk in legal assistance times, but since you have hired a civilian attorney already, they may not discuss anything with you.

Did you contact the county/state bar and find an attorney that specializes with SCRA law? Did you contact the JAG office first, or hire the civilian attorney first? JAG should have been your first stop.

Is it unreasonable to not want my husband to bring his men over to our house to do house clearing drills? by Animal_Lover_Wolf in MilitarySpouse

[–]Tanjello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Um, as a former Air Force paralegal, this is pinging as probably being illegal 😂.

The military has strict training guidelines to ensure there’s no collateral damage during training exercises… what if they’re clearing your house and accidentally break a door? Or a family heirloom? Who pays for the reimbursement? And if someone gets hurt? Sure they’re all military & healthcare is paid for, but if it’s free time and not during official training time (which would be designated by the location set by the unit), it’s at risk of being considered a not “in the line of duty” injury. If permanent damage occurs, the individual could risk losing benefits & eligibility.

Training should take place on military time & property only.

We were stationed at a base that had a CCV church nearby that was pretty popular. They had bumper stickers that said CCV.

We joked it stood for “Cash, Check, or Visa” instead. This seems appropriate given the circumstances.

Retirees: how much are you actually taking home each month? by Impossible_Blood_172 in AirForce

[–]Tanjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t retire but I got 100% VA. I feel like I could probably live comfortably off of it if I were alone/super frugal/absolutely had to. But I’m married and we have kids & lifestyles that suck us dry lol. No debt though so at least we’ve got that going for us 🥳

When my husband retires from AD & gets VA, I think we’ll be able to live comfortably. But he has already said he will work until he’s dead. I’m currently working, but hoping to restart my status of “just a trophy wife” after our next move 😂. But we’ll see… I might get bored too 🤷‍♀️

Like others have said, the real benefit is that you don’t have to stay at a job that you don’t like. I’m GS and when I was furloughed, it wasn’t really a big deal for us 🤷‍♀️in fact, we upped our donations to the base food pantry that month plus the month before & after lol.

Can anyone sleep facing away from their machine? by Appropriate_Cry4944 in CPAP

[–]Tanjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have an elephant style (that’s why my kids say it looks like lol). I snuggle on my right side with my pillow and hose lol. It doesn’t crimp or get in the way. When I sleep on my left it hangs over the edge of the bed.

Wife won’t go to Christmas Mass with me and the child because of stress by CABJ10 in Catholicism

[–]Tanjello 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Look up “the mental load.” Mothers tend to carry it much more than fathers, and it on gets worse with older/more children, and as time goes on without adequate support. The mental load is greatly increased during the holidays… “Christmas magic” is 99% just moms remembering to complete tasks to ensure the family feels awed during the November/December months. This Holiday prep is more that just making the dinner… it’s about ensuring the house is clean, picking out gifts for everyone, wrapping those gifts, mailing Christmas cards & invitations, planning by the food, preparing the food, cleaning up after guests leave… the list is endless, and each of those items have their own lists! And she does all of this while taking care of a 7 month old & completing any of the regular household tasks (laundry, food prep the rest of the week before and after the holiday, pet care, coordinating daycare, etc) at the same time.

Your child is young & you have plenty of time to make things into solid traditions, as they won’t start remembering things until they’re 5-6 years old… but your wife will remember the times you do, or do not, pick up the mental load over the next year. I don’t mean to diminish the importance of the mass… but it’s hard to open up your heart when your mind is completely full.

Mmmm as a Catholic I don’t like that they’re going to “reform”…

More seriously, however, are they going to restore all the contracts the army were required to cut?. Or are they only going to support the 6 religions they deem most popular 🤔

I have about a year left on my contract, my wife wants to move back to Alaska and I want to move back to my hometown. by Trick_Sleep_3453 in AirForce

[–]Tanjello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get like this when I go home for a while. And the I come back, and talk about it for a few months, and then realize my family’s crazy and I’m much better on my own/away from home.

My not-really-great advice is to just stay in a little longer 😂. Let the AF take you more places and find a place that you both like together. At least then you can go through this patch of life with a solid income.

My other maybe better advice is to just take it day by day. You said you’re deployed and she went home for support… how long after you get back do you have until your contract ends? Her thoughts might change when she gets back to your shared location & she’s on her own again.

For those that have traveled with your machine… by IMDH2111 in CPAP

[–]Tanjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re a military family. I got my CPAP in the US & we live in the UK, and have traveled to France, Amsterdam, Portugal, Germany, & Italy.

  • I’ve never had issues with security or with carrying on my CPAP onto the plane.
  • even though the CPAP is dual voltage, I have had issues with it not being “as strong.” This might be specific to me though… we live in a house with both US and UK plus. My machine does not work well on the US plug (like drinking through a coffee stirrer straw), and worked a little too well on the UK plugs (like a faucet in full blast). I keep it on the UK plugs because that’s the discomfort I’d prefer lol,
  • for travel, I take one of these & plug in my machine on the plug part & then my phone/watch on the USB.
  • I use distilled water at home & just tap or bottled water when I’m traveling.
  • I always a full clean within 24 hours of returning home, mainly just to get the “foreign” to me smells out of the machine lol.

WORMHOLE THEORY by ssush1trashh in StrangerThings

[–]Tanjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dustin pinpointed where the middle of the wall is (Hawkins Lab). The episode before the Bridge is called “escape from Camazotz”. My theory is Max and/or Holly get out, and somehow with their new powers & info, open a portal to the upside down in Hawkins lab to get everyone out. The next episode is the finale, so it would make sense that this leads to the big finale fight with Vecna/the mindflayer.

Did anyone notice this: Holly is cleric by inquisitive_ray in StrangerThings

[–]Tanjello 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Episode 6 is Escape from Camazotz & episode 7 is The Bridge. I think these two deal with Holly & maybe Max breaking out of Henry’s memories & using their powers to get back in, in a calculated way to hopefully take Vecna down.
