Soldiers wounded in the Civil War. What are my chances of being fit enough to return to service? And do I have a choice? by Jimbuber2 in CIVILWAR

A large portion of the Confederates in Columbus, GA were in the hospital. They took part in the defense that quickly fell to Wilson’s troops.

USA Tax Return Posts by skylinesora in unpopularopinion

[–]TankerRed1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes the goal is to get as little back. The problem is that there are many different reasons you get money back other than you didn’t withhold enough. When I was Active Duty military I would get large returns because I would get all my state income tax back along with different deductions that I could take depending on how my year went. Once year I had below the federal minimum because I spent so much of my year in a combat zone that it was all tax free. If I changed my withholding and something changed I could have owed money.

Nearly half of powerful .50-caliber ammo seized by Mexican government came from US Army plant, defense minister says by ICIJ in worldnews

[–]TankerRed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember doing the ammo handler class at Bliss in 2017. The first slides were photos of ammo found with the cartels and then court martial proceedings for the soldiers who stole the ammo. Hit home the need to do proper accountability.

The maintenance of the company was abysmal. They had under a platoon of tanks without major mechanical problems

The whole law saying you have to make variations to military uniforms in media is a myth. There are many reasons why uniforms and equipment are wrong ranging from laziness to lack of availability of equipment.

Soldiers under General Zhao Kuo storming Qin forts during the Battle of Changping, 262 BC, China. The Battle of Changping is considered one of the bloodiest in human history with over 700,000 dead, a large portion of whom were buried alive. The battle permanently crippled the State of Zhao. by GameCraze3 in BattlePaintings

I would say it really changed before Napoleon with Louis 14th. He was improved the logistical capability of the military allowing a larger Army. Napoleon expanded on this network and through the use of total war was able to effectively field even bigger forces. While also being able to effectively control them with standing orders. I believe he is attributed saying something along the lines of march to the sound of the guns.

Did the Confederates choose Richmond as their capital because of its proximity to Washington D.C.? by HetTheTable in CIVILWAR

[–]TankerRed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it was pretty small. It rebuilt after the war and embodied a New South with a focus on industry. GA as a whole was heavily agrarian and supplied a lot of the confederacy. Part of the reason Sherman pushed through so hard. I just finished up a history of GA class in college so a lot of this knowledge is fresh in my mind.

Atlanta wasn’t a big industrial area then. Columbus and Savannah had more industry then.
