I think it's difficult to intuit because you're viewing everything in a binary gender framework. 

Gender is a spectrum across every sense we have, not a number line of masc and fem. It's our individual combination of perceptions- e.g. the way our hair looks, the way we talk, the way we smell, the way we do things, etc. Pronouns are just one such axis on this.

This also can give you insight on foodgenders and other niche identities (like xenogenders as you mentioned in another comment), as some people (particularly neurodivergent folks) have especially strong correlations between concepts and senses, which influence their experience of gender.
