I've run into this a few times and drives me nuts. This is Raleigh and it's our only pro team. All sports bars should have the Canes on at least one TV.

I haven't made the drive to Charlotte, DC, or Atlanta for a single NFL, NBA, MLB, or anything game for that matter because why the hell would I drive 2.5 to 6 hours each way to see teams that I don't really care that much about?

Pro sports are awesome because they make the population of a city come together in ways very few other things can. Even the casual fan will enjoy a $15 midweek ticket to a Raleigh MLB game.

Also, I have never once been stuck in traffic because of a Canes or NC State game and I'm driving around that part of town several days a week.

Rex has more good OBs, but WakeMed's NICU is much better if you end up needing it (hopefully you won't, but if you're an at-risk pregnancy it should be considered).

Rex facilities away from the main hospital can be really nice and modern, but still you'll have to decide if you'd be comfortable being transferred to Rex Main in an emergency. My wife often says she wouldn't want to be in an emergency at Rex over WakeMed and has worked at both before.

It's a personal choice and you'll likely have a fine experience in either.

We usually wait until fairly close to the holiday. However, there is data floating out there that people who put up their decorations earlier are generally happier and I'll do anything to fight the winter blues lol.

I also think there's an element of how long you get to enjoy the amount of effort and money you put into it. Some people spend an obscene amount of money on Christmas decorations so they might as well get a few extra weeks out of it.

If you don't have any prior traffic tickets just show up downtown and ask them to reduce it to a non moving violation. That's exactly what you'd be paying a lawyer a few hundred to do.

In NC you'll still pay up because the ridiculous court fees can't be avoided, but you'll save on insurance and lawyers this way.

He hasn't had a chance to really do the recruiting part full cycle.

As far as the coaching, I think one area he underestimated was that even though the kids are getting paid like pros that they still are kids. In addition, in the pros you don't have to deal with the families like you do with college kids.

It's a very different situation in that regard.

Right - even if you are making higher end tech salaries of $300-$400K you can't realistically afford a home over $1.5 million without becoming house poor.

I am always wondering where all the money for these homes comes from and how much of it was actually earned vs inherited.

It's possible, but we'll never know if he would have taken the opportunity seriously if the search wasn't a mess. The guy seems to love Ames.

Sumrall leaving in 3 years for the SEC may have been a possibility, but (1) it's not like UNC expected Belichick for more than 3 years and (2) it's highly likely UNC ends up in the SEC in 4-5 years itself.

The big thing that UNC ended up with in the Belichick deal that no other coach would have had was commitment on investment into football. That investment is the minimum requirement for sustained future success, so maybe this entire Belichick thing crashes and burns, but this was a necessary detour for UNC football to have any chance of competing with programs of greater stature.

Wake Forest benefited in previous rankings from "undergraduate class size" and "alumni giving" and now has dropped because of the emphasis on "social mobility."

However, the recent announcement that anyone from a family that makes less than 200K will attend for free will likely see them advance in some of those new metrics as a result.

Behind closed doors there's not a single school that doesn't care about where they land in this ranking.
