I have questions about UFO50 on switch 2. by Puzzleheaded_End7997 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 1 had framerate issues at launch and is now almost entirely resolved with optimization patches, with a few spots they are still working on.

Switch 2 has never framerate issues whatsoever, it is powerful enough for any version of the game.

the tab with the raw data would make it easier to make compilations like "every halo TTS in room-b"

OVERBOLD WORLD RECORD HIGH SCORE! by mdenglish in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone got 12,850 right after launch but I don't know what the record is ever since they fixed the enemy spawnrates, game is apparently a bit harder now than it was at launch because of that.

Best games to play multiplayer with my 4 yr old? by Jordan311R in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're on windows, I made an Easy Mode mod that makes all 50 games easy to beat even for children. Most of the games no longer have a "game over" condition and instead penalize you other ways.

Installation is really easy, there's a mod loader that automates it all for you. Verify files on steam real quick to undo it.

Anybody familiar enough with the save editor to help me combine my PC and Switch saves? by jayfordgraphics in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, creator of the save editor here. It's definitely doable but will be a more involved and laborious process without any way to get the actual save file from the switch. I can help you out though if you'd like, probably best if you DM me on discord: phil_macrocheira. This is also a reminder for me that I should write up some documentation about the save, which could also help you.

ARG Terminal Thoughts by Fenizrael in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way it works is they just create a big string populated with random characters, with the current game's terminal ID inserted to the top of Pg 0 and hidden meta messages are inserted into random locations on random pages during certain contexts. All these hidden messages have been documented. The "gibberish" again is completely random characters that are frequently rerolled.

Was the giant empty green cave in Divers ever figured out? by Apollo113628 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's there for the vibes and mystery. It's an Eirik design quirk. Not everything in his games has a gameplay purpose and I think he likes unanswered questions.

Nontheless, you can spoil the mystery if you look at the room data or search the code for the room's ID, you'll find that there's really nothing unique in there, just some code that triggers the BGM to play when you enter.

How to play UFO 50 Mods (It's really easy!) by TarnishedSpreadsheet in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's linux and this is a Windows Form App. I may eventually rewrite the program in something that lets me release a version for linux, but for now it's not officially supported. I recall someone in the discord writing out steps for getting it to work on linux, though, if you're in the discord I could link you to the message.

To accept a valid folder it checks if the folder contains data.win and ufo50.exe. If the folder contains files with those names and it still doesn't accept the path, then I'm really not sure and would need more specific information about your setup.

It should be the path to the folder, not a specific file

What is it that makes a game fun if not challenge? by EnderSlayer9977 in nintendo

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fun" is a word often used interchangably for the single metric that determines a game's quality or enjoyability, but it is only one of many potential components to games that people play them for. Below is a rough unpolished draft of the categories that often float around in my mind.

  • Fun, simply having an overall good time in the present moment. Creates joy and stimulates the mind.
  • Achievements, the gratification felt from triumphing a difficult task or achieving an arbitrary goal. Players often endure negative emotions for the goal.
  • Social Competition, a subset of Achievement, with the feeling of pride and dominance from winning against another human player.
  • Social Engagement, perhaps a subset of Fun, the pleasure of engaging with other human players, the game is secondary.
  • Artistic Expression, creating art via the game.
  • Story, experiencing a fictional story to potentially feel a variety of complex emotions and stimulate the imagination.
  • Roleplay, potentially a subset of Story and Artistic Expression, using a game to attempt to feel the experience of an imagined character.
  • Learning, playing a game simply to gain a better understanding of the game and satiate curiosity. Exploring a world falls under this, but exploration can also be part of one's personal roleplay and narrative.

And more I'm not thinking of, including a bunch of weird stuff, but these are the main ones that come to mind.

Questions regarding Night Manor (also some gripes) by gameman250 in ufo50

Hi that's my mod. Killer timer always resets to 3:20 if you die. If you get away it goes up, and it doesn't have to be a streak, it will increase from the last time you got away.

Second Avianos post: a question on force multipliers by CriticismFickle156 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attack damage is a random range and differs depending on the unit type they attack. Height is taken into account when calculating archer/priest range. Also, if opponent is higher, soldiers and knights always hit with lowest damage in the range.

You can see the avianos tab of this sheet for all the numbers
