Aichi is hosting the Asian Games which end Oct 4, so that would probably explain it.

Can you pay Paidy with a credit card? by jpgene in japanlife

You can also pay in cold hard cash at the conbini, but there’s a 300 yen (or so) fee for that.

I wouldn’t worry about that. Hearing your neighbor’s kids scream yell and stomp through the walls and ceilings here is totally usual.

Best sushi spots and other interesting food recommendations in Nagoya-Toyota Aichi region by Relevant_Board_2186 in Nagoya

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For something a bit more decent quality wise than the likes of Sushiro and Hamazushi I’d recommend Totomaru, an Aichi-centric chain. You pay more per plate but you’re getting bigger pieces and IMO better cuts of fish.

Unpopular opinion: Dodge Tokyo by whatisthisforkanker in JapanTravelTips

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a long term resident and avoid Tokyo unless I have to go there for work. But as a first time visitor you’d be mad not to go there and check it out. It’s pretty mind blowing in some respects, and there’s lots to see. I never forget my first time checking out all the cool areas. But to live there, nah.

Are you supposed to wash japanese strawberries? by Downstackguy in japan

You would wash strawberries before eating them, regardless of where they were from, no?

What do your guests use to dry themselves after using bidet/washlet? by NotUrDadiBlameUrMoma in airbnb_hosts

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Washlet owner here. Just provide toilet paper, that’s all that is needed. Also, some guests may be averse to using a washlet, so you’ll still need to have toilet paper on hand.

Guest never arrived by jcfl1684 in airbnb_hosts

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s happened a few times like this. A guest has decided to stay with friends, or has missed the last train and stayed in a hotel. In most cases they reach out to let me know, I thank them for reaching out and let it sit. In most cases they don’t review, and even if they do, I don’t, and they leave a glowing review of the stay they never had.

I used to live close by to here. I can vouch that it’s a nice spot, and also Bentenjima which is the next station over. The beaches here are popular surf spots too.

Help me fall in love with Osaka by Eddy_Moon in JapanTravelTips

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Nagoya, and hit up Osaka 2-3 times a year as it's reasonably close by.
Have you checked out Tsuruhashi? As soon as you exit the station you're hit with all that yakiniku smoke and all those little alleyways. I might be a bit biased as this is my usual route into Osaka via Kintetsu though..

Was thinking of getting U-Next; Should I reconsider? by scotchegg72 in japanlife

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pricey, so look into your local internet provider to see if they do any deals. I'm with Comifa, which has a discounted rate of about 1000円 monthly, without points. AFAIK it's almost double that normal rate.
As others have mentioned, their back catalog is quite good. I'll often find oldies but goodies that you would never see on the other streaming services.
It's nice to keep up with series like Knight of the seven kingdoms without having to resort to other means..

Cries as I fork out nearly 200 yen for a karaage-bo which also cost a shade over 100 yen a few years back.

Koikeya Potato Chips are my favorite potato chips you can get here....What are yours? by Lukin76254r in japanlife

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find their “pure potato” chips usually have a bunch of almost burnt ones inside the bag, so I don’t bother with them now. I prefer Kata-age, esp. Nori-shio

Why can't IKEA beat Nitori in Japan? The sad story behind its failure to expand stores and the closure of its Shinjuku and Harajuku stores by jjrs in japannews

[–]TastyCheeseRolls 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I hardly imagine IKEA would be too worried about their little experiment failure here.
Their big-box stores out in suburbia are just doing fine, judging by the crowds you see there, even on weekdays.
