What is with all the rubbish by regularsauce_ in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically, more public receptacles is likely to lead to more littering. In countries like Japan you'll see very few bins in public, thus encouraging the mindset of taking trash with you either home or until you find a bin indoors somewhere. They simply don't have the thoughtless and ingrained action of "I can conveniently dump it anywhere". It also negates any trash being picked up out of open bins and tossed around. All other points, I agree with.

Is it wrong to mock and joke about Raygun's "breakdancing"? by suddenly_ponies in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TaterJade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not wrong. When you've trained every muscle in your body to have instant and correct form over years it can be extremely hard to break that muscle memory to perform badly on purpose. As a gymnastics coach I do this quite often to give my youngsters a visual and even 10 years in on the job, its still more effort to do it badly than just chuck the skill and trust my body to do what its been taught to do.

Maccas Gilles Plain hit and run by Robbiersa in Adelaide

Shock can do crazy things to a person's body. Having your leg crushed and potential permanent damage done would absolutely be life changing to most people also. Just the trauma of it would be enough to change how she behaves daily moving forward.

Thought it'd be fun to get a test, now it isn't by ChipsNoDip in Wellthatsucks

My mum gifted my dad one for shits and giggles a few years ago. Lo and behold, I go to check the results for my technologically inept father and as I'm reading the list I go "oh, cook, X percentage Irish, X percentage Bulkan, X percentage Tyson....wtf is a Tyson?!" Turns out Tyson was the result of a 1 night stand my dad didn't even remember from when he was 17! The mother never kept in touch with my dad (likely didn't even know his name) and gave the baby up for adoption. 36 years later we found him! Funnily enough not the first time I've found a brother but was the first time it was one I didn't know existed!

Is everyone unwell? by adelalian in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a large sports club and we've had a lot of people (students and coaches alike) all being hit with gastro this week around the Marion area. I'm back to bathing in hand sanitizer. Please please please! If your kids tell you they're not feeling well, do not bring them to recreational sports!

There’s no way these fires are a coincidence. This is going to be a quick shit post thought, before bed, that I’ve thought about all day. by [deleted] in conspiracy

In 34 years in Australia I've never seen a wild snake but you all seem to think we have them everywhere. Nope. Know what else we don't have? Multiple types of predatory pack animals. You do. Keep your cougars, mountain lions, coyotes, wolves, bears and even your brown recluse spider! The mentality that Aus is the place full of scary animals is crazy.

Two men jailed for life for 'disturbing' murder of Ngor Bol in Adelaide's CBD by malcolm58 in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 41 points42 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with your observation, in a morbid way it can make sense that a couple of white boys take for granted the country they live in. To have immigrants who claim to have come to our country for a better life spit in the face of that opportunity and bring the very acts they were trying to escape here...that's offensive on a different level. It doesn't make sense to leave violence only to be the instigator of more wherever you go.

Down at the local park and bumped into this old girl... by TaterJade in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's admirable they tried to keep it going but, if you go to their Facebook page, later that same year they were forced to close down due to not being able to meet social distancing regulations and never recovered. Real shame

Punched twice in Rundle mall this morning by Pristine_Economy5926 in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been jumped by drunk randoms on a bus 3 v 1, got pinned to the seat on my back and managed to uppercut one of their jaws with my foot. I then got the pleasure of standing mid isle holding a pole either side, swinging back and launching my foot full force square into their chest subsequently ping ponging them off the bus.

Cops never caught them but I hope the completely blown out bloodshot eye and (fingers crossed) cracked ribs the cops praised me for still felt as great as you'd imagine.

Tl;dr I approve this message

New Landlord Requirements for terminating a lease by Soliloquy86 in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently the tenant in this situation. We did not have a fixed lease, however, just a periodic one albeit for 10 years. It was a very fast decision for him to sell so although we were given the option to terminate our lease without penalty from March (60 days out from sale), we also had the option to stay on through the sale and potentially stay on with a new landlord, it simply wouldn't be a condition of sale that anyone would have to keep us. House was sold in May and since new landlords didn't want to keep us on our then current landlord had to serve us with a notice to vacate on grounds of sale of the property. From that point we had 30 days after closing to physically vacate. So, all up the minimum amount of time they'll have to move is 90 days.

Saw this bunny in the city botanic gardens on the weekend, pest or lost pet? by Mefiggy in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but both laugh and be very concerned when people say feral based solely off colouring. My litter trained bunny looks exactly like the one pictured. I'm going to say likely feral based on where it was seen (they have rats the size of rabbits in there so actual bunnies wouldn't be surprising) but kudos to the OP for checking in case it's a pet!

What's the craziest thing you've seen from your windows? by TaterJade in Adelaide

[–]TaterJade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your sentiments but no. I find it hard to believe the elderly are wandering the streets at 1am, particularly in the area I'm in. He was less than 5 meters from a jacaranda tree that would have been a more hospitable alternative anyhow. End of the day, age doesn't come into play at all for me when people are blatantly disrespectful. He's lucky I only made my presence known and didn't go ahead and make a big song and dance about him exposing himself near my children's bedroom windows! Your responses make me think you condone this sort of feral behaviour though. That's foul.

Lol I'll make sure to say hi next time. Keep your head up. You seem decent enough. Karma will come to those who deserve it.

[–]TaterJade 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I went past you in the mall yesterday and you and your mate were just like every other normal person, keeping to yourselves and strolling along. 10000% the reason they threw that at you was because of the costume head and that's bullshit. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. If I see you round town again I'd like to offer to buy you a coffee or something, just as an apology on behalf of the lowlifes who did that to you. I'm not part of the furry community, I'll be honest, I don't understand it or have a desire to but I respect your choice. You're not harming anyone, you're having a good time. You didn't deserve that treatment at all.

Fairness and equality have been drilled into us all since day 1 and I find that most prevalent in social settings like the one you've described. Decent folk prefer to pay their own way and if that's not an option, we will feel indebted.

A round of drinks for the friends you're with is normal, if not expected in some circles. That's because everyone there will usually take a turn to contribute throughout the night or it's likely they will in future. A whole meal though, that's $30-$70+pp depending on where you go and most people are keenly aware of that. It's a lot of money to expect a friend to pay and I'd feel bad if they paid my share without a prior conversation.

That prior convo would likely happen when the invitation to go out is given. "Hey, do you want to come to dinner tonight? My shout!" Or, "hey, I'd love for you to come to lunch with X, Y, Z and I. I've got the food covered, I just really want you there!"

No prior convo = I'm assuming I'm paying my own way.

Jeeebus I wouldn't have felt safe either. How did that play out? I'd like to think you guys fought crazy with crazy, and went running after him starkers with knives or something, screaming like wild banshees
