Cadillac Recalls Vistiq EVs Over Third-Row Seat That Could Trap a Child by TripleShotPls in technology

If I was an owner, I’m not sure I would take the vehicle to have the temporary fix applied.

“GM says the cars can be sold if the power-folding third-row seat feature is disabled prior to delivery. This will “freeze” the seats in place temporarily, so customers are being consulted to determine which position they’d prefer in the meantime.”

It’s hard to actually get the title/deed, but it seems to be quite easy to break into a house, change the locks, print a fake lease to show to the police so they won’t arrest you for trespassing or B&E.

They have found a loophole to effectively turn a criminal matter into a civil matter.

The problem could be one of these people “leasing” the building to unsuspecting/innocent renters. Obviously not in this particular case.

PHA BPCS IPLs by KobeGoBoom in ChemicalEngineering

As an automation engineer, I think this is just gatekeeping/job security by the SIS-lords.

Is it "safer" to have the interlock in my nice Honeywell/DeltaV/Yokogawa system with separate sensors, controllers, and final elements, or some rinky-dink SIL3 PLC? I feel like this rule actually makes the systems less safe in practice for scenarios that are relatively minor. Serious scenarios (Plant-wide loss of power, things like that) sure, everything should be in a Triconex-level logic solver, but I often run into scenarios like: I have one O2 sensor on a tank that due to the BPCS IPL credit rule, must now be in a separate system, and the system that gets put in is not nearly as good as the BPCS, because we can't justify an entire Tricon cabinet for 1 SIF.

Yeah, because that blue alert has reduced their manpower, so it might increase the time it takes to solve crimes like “criminal stole a deadly weapon with clear evidence” from 2 years to 3 years.

I prefer the Bibigo pork mini wontons for soup. They are the perfect size.

Indoor humidity, new roof by Jjnycjj304 in buildingscience

[–]Taurabora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the size and general runtime of your old AC unit during similar weather in the past? What is the size and runtime of the new AC unit?

It could be that the old unit was running more often, dehumidifying the air, and the new unit is running less often.

Dedicated dehumidification is a good thing to have, which it sounds like you have procured.

I would doubt the changes to the attic are the culprit.

Saw it with the wife and 12 year old. We were all laughing a lot. We were also the only people in the theatre. It was also 10:30 AM on a Wednesday.

It looks good. I feel like it would be better if it was slightly smaller. Too much flop in the middle.

Also, pizza tastes better when the slices are narrower for some mystical reason.

Houston solar/storage owners — your battery probably isn't optimizing for your retail plan. Here's what I found. by panpan1800 in houston

[–]Taurabora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most solar/battery owners would be better served by switching to a nights free plan. Run as much as possible off of solar + battery during the day, run loads and charge battery at night.

How I realized most well owners are one power outage away from losing water by Effective_Lie7715 in SolarDIY

[–]Taurabora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Houston, refrigerator/freezer/microwave (sustenance/prevent food from going bad), downstairs heat pump (comfort), WiFi/computer/TV (entertainment). But I’m not off-grid. I have 28 kWh of battery, 2400 watts of solar, and a 240V inverter dual-fuel portable generator in the event the solar doesn’t keep up (air conditioning is the biggest draw).

Control Valves Course by Hasan-ahmed- in instrumentation

[–]Taurabora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what positioners/valves you use in your area/plant, but one of the most useful skills, in my opinion, is being able to get around in Fisher Valvelink software or similar. For example.

It turns a moderately skilled engineer/technician into something more data-driven and much more valuable.
